    Thanks a lot mate for the video. You did me a huge favor! I repaired a broken Ultegra 600 6400 rear brifter sourcing parts from a 105 like yours in the video. Tomorrow i'll finally get to repair my first serious steel frame road bike after a year and a half of it being in standby. I am so glad I will be able to repair this beatiful bike for which I have been offered money from guys riding 3000$ bikes. Will never sell it!

    It's worth mentioning that for the less skilled or ambitious fixer, taking the lever down to the level at 3:41 exposes the pawls and springs that get gummed up, so most repairs will work if the exposed bits are then loosened up and relubed.

    Thank you! The snag I hit was on the release lever spring. It wraps around a bushing, but I was letting it jump above the bushing while setting its tension. Also, it was easy to fab a tool for the four-notch mech locking nut out of brass tubing, making it easy to trial fit the mech.

    Hi love the video-using it to re-build a lever as I watch-- keep getting stuck though- cant work out were the spring ends, in between the plates go/ butt against at approx 22 to 24 mins , can you help please?

      Seen from above: The shorter angled link of the spring clicks into the upwards bent ear from the lower plate. The longer angled link of the spring, going counterclock wise from the smaller one, clicks into the downwards bent ear from the upper plate. Watch very closely in high resolution, it's hard to describe

    Hello ! Very good video that helped me a lot for my right shifter ! But I took my left shifter to pieces and I can't find any video that shows how to put it back together ! Did you ever record he same video for the left shifter ?

      Hello and thank you. I have a video of a full rebuild of a left 3s shifter too, see at my videos.

    Hey! Just found your video!! Im restoring an old vitus 979 with a shimano 105 groupset. The groupset is ok but both brifters are not working. Probably because its been 25 years out of office. Do you have any recomendation? I was thinking about using a degreaser before disassembly and hope it is just old grease, or just disassembly like you. Thanks in advance
    Ooh it is the same model as yours but 2x8. St1055

      @levelomec  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience it's usually old grease that blocks the mechanism. You can try to soak it in degreaser for some time. maybe it works, otherwise take it apart 🤞

      @@levelomec i opened the brifter yesterday. It was actually really cleaned but it doesnt move at all. Theres a really tiny spring that doesnt look its doing anything… do you know anywhere that could fix it? In spain they said they dont work with old shimano parts. They offered you to buy a new one… thanks!!

      @@carlossiciliadiaz2656 try WD40 first and jiggle all parts with a tiny screwdriver. Maybe, if not yourself, look for a person around you who knows how to rebuild it.

    Good work, do you know if u can adjust the lever clearance to the bar? To reach the levers easier. Like for smaller hands for example. Cheers

    • @levelomec
      @levelomec  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. To my knowledge this is not possible. Maybe try other bars or add a spacer where the lever is stopped in the housing

    • @nils_on_wheels
      @nils_on_wheels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@levelomec yes.. Putting a shim/spacer in between was one of the solutions i was thinking about. But i think about some modern compatible levers. U maybe know of some modern and compatible 8 gear levers that could easily replace the old ones here and have a better shape and adjustment points? Cheers

      The Shimano Claris St-R2000 are 8s and reach adjustable however I'm not sure if compatible with old 8s derailleurs
