I set up 12 of the most popular bass distorion/overdrive pedals with all setting at 12 o'clock
Tell me which one you like the most!
Aguilar Agro
Behringer BOD400
BOSS ODB-3
Darkglass Alpha Omicron
EBS Multidrive
EHX Bass Nano Big Muff Pi
Ibanez TS9B
Marshall Guv'nor
MXR M89
ProCo Rat
Source Audio Aftershock
Tech 21 SansAmp
Bonus 13th pedal: • Digitech Bass Driver
Finally! Videos like this are way too rare. Every notable bass overdrive. Settings at 12. The same riff throughout. Thanks so much for the upload
But all at 12 means nothing, it's not a standard or tool for direct comparison. Some pedals at 12 give a lot of dirt some very subtle. It's not not easy or short to decide even between only a pair of these.
i appreciate the idea of keeping all the knobs flat, and i can’t complain about a free video, but dialing each pedal to your taste before comparing would have made for a much more useful test.
I cant believe behringer BOD400 is the sound i have been looking for
Nothing wrong with that, Behringher have some great productsand this was the cheapest pedal on the list. Just remember it has a plastic case so it's not as durable as the other pedals.
My verdict: use any one of these but stacked WITH the sansamp
Yepp! I got the ODB-3 and the Corcoza Fuzz stacked into the Programmable Bass Driver Sans Amp. Not both at the same time ;) It is great!
Or just adjust the sans amp for more drive.
@@SuperReverbiousI think the sansamp drive is pretty bad :(
The Argo creates a nice texture, I dig it
Pretty cool demo, Simon. \m/ i personally liked the Aguilar Agro, the boss odb-3, the Marshall gv-2, the Proco rat, and the source audio aftershock(especially since I own one).
Imma be honest, the Behringer sounded the best to me with the settings all flat. Just a nice overdriven tone that doesn’t sound like it’s muffled
Wow, great demo. Thank you .
Thanks. You're welcome
Behringer BOD400 I like best
That Rat... ❤️
I like the Behringer BOD-400. I bet if you put that with a boost pedal it would hit even harder.
I love the MXR m89 !!!
2 Sansamp
参考になります。ありがとうございます!thank you!
Doitashimashite!
Da Boss and second Agro. Good review. TY
Honestly, some pedals sounded better here because of the settings. The Sansamp and the Darkglass easily blow all the others out of the water when set correctly.
Wym correctly? As long as you get the sound you want, it's fine. No such thing as a correct setting
lol the Darkglass is a pretty cool circuit, but give me literally anything over the sansamp
Just saying, the BIG MUFF PI has some great potential for chiptune
Thanks, I might look into that.
Agro all the way
I am gonna trail the BOD400 from my Model-D and get some low down clean Bass Drive.
odb-3
Was the MXR for me
EBS multidrive sounds more natural and transparent as it should be on bass
Darkglass and EBS top the list, Aguilar, MXR, and RAT also excellent. The rest are meh, either too fuzzy/buzzy (Boss, Marshall), midhonky (Ibanez) or mid-scooped (Behringer and Sansamp of course).
Sold my sansamp* bass driver a couple years back, because i was having a tone identity crisis, stupid stupid stupid, odb-3 sounds really nice at noon, plus its almost half the price of sans driver if memory serves me, thanks for the vid it helps my browsing alot
I'm transtonal myself
Good test good riff.
Increíble video
Nice video but I think you’re mixing drive, with distortion and fuzz pedals ! Boss ODB 3 ( overdrive) , Rat ( distortion ) and Big Muff ( fuzz) are just an example ! To me they all sound good enough, for what they are supposed to be ! Push and distort a little , a lot …or if you stack them,…until your neighbours call the police ! 😂 It just depends what kind of music you play and how much low end you want to keep!
Great comment. You're the first person to bring this up. I noticed that too, which is why I tried to give it a vague title. If you can think of something better, I'll change it in your honour!
It’s incredible how little decent dirt pedals are out there. I owned two of these: Big Muff and ODB-3. I consider bjtj terrible and barely playable, especially ODB-3.
I like MXR, Ibanez and Rat.
The ODB-3 is cool, but only for a little drive. It really sucks as a distortion pedal, because it sounds pretty artificial. I agree!
With the ODB-3 if you keep the blend and drive very low it's one of the better bass pedals out there. Doesn't sound like much on TH-cam but it works in a mix better than most. The compression is really nice and it doesn't choke on a hot signal.
RAT, AGRO!
ODB-3 Destroyed the competition one more time. Wish it was a little less noisy.(sounds pretty noiseless at your demo though) Good video bro, keep it up ! : )
I think it’s terrible. I owned it, sold it 6 months later.
Just got a Boss Compressor and bummed at how noisy it is…..trying everything to keep it quite.
@@fredparker3384 is it LMB-3? Keep enhance knob ALWAYS below 9 o clock. This is a really decent compressor.
No, BC-1X
ODB-3 is a really good pedal. With the drive all the way counter clockwise and the blend around 7:00 to 8:00 (very low) it's a great dirty compressor.
guvner is so good
Cheers squire!
BOD400 !
Hi, did you record these directly, please? Or by micing an amp?
From memory it was probably Guitar Rig 5 - Bass DI preset
@@SimonSkipper Thank you!
I really feel the need to get my sticky bass fingers on that after shock pedal! :D
Its a great pedal I have on my board at the moment. I almost felt bad including it because you could dial in any sound imaginable!
Honestly, is there a downside to the Aftershock? I can't even say pricetag is a problem because it's essentially 3 pedals anyways (overdrive, distortion, fuzz)
@@Thurgor_Supreme got one, but it is not for me. Tried it in different setting, but it steals too much bottom end in my setup. I did not expect that. Maybe, I will give it another try someday. Should shoot a video about it :) Used the neuro app and tweaked it, but I could not get a warm sound. It does not sound bad, I think it is my signalchain. I wanted a really mean distortion after my overdrive, but however I tweaked it I lost lowend.
@@gearforest9746 Hmm... maybe this isn't the "save" you're looking for, but I'm perfectly okay with mixing in the clean tone to restore the low end. I'm still scratching my head over how not to buy this. MXR and Aguilar are the only contenders imo, but then I'm paying more for less? I dunno...
@@Thurgor_Supreme yeah, that was my reason, too. I just put it after my drive and even the clean took my lowend. I do not know why, but my drive pushes a lot and has a clean blend, too. Anyway, it is a cool pedal and sounds good! Just not in my setup.
Badly……some pick sounds…maybe a better…..more punchy.
Thanks?
DarkGlass Alpha-Omicron?? Jaja
Still packs a punch!
All of these are wrong, for a superb bass tone u will need two cranked fuzz pedals infront of an hm2
Don't give me ideas.
test them , turned all the way up. hardly any juice with most
ODB 3 & RAT blew my iem.... sigh....
What pedal do you think responds most to your dynamics?
I only own, or have owned, some of them, but the EBS Multidrive is one of the most dynamic Bass Overdrives I ever had. Not in this comparison, but the best Bass overdrive ever for me is the Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive. Very dynamic, very natural and sounds almost as good as good old full tube amp driven hard. With the Spectrum knob you can get so many great tones.
I would say that the sansamp is the most dynamic pedal here, but it is not the pedal for a crucial distortion, but a constant and really solid transparent drive!
i liked only aftershock somehow
The aftershock is an interesting one because you can download different profiles to make it sound like just about anything
