The thing about Nirvana that in my opinion is the saving grace of any band is the backlog. The big albums get old after a while, save for a song or two. This early stuff is Awsome
@@endoffate5475 It was on the Deluxe version, but only as a live recording, at the Pines Theatre. A great recording, but not quite as polished as this recording is.
Really cool version!!! Thanks for posting it, dude! I absolutely loved Kurt's double-tracked vocals...And there's also a very reconizable scream before the songs changes to the second part (E and G chords)...Nirvana rules! Not like those "posturing rock" we find nowadays...
@dennisvanlith i don't either think that pearl jam is grunge. yeah grunge is just a commercial term, but you can hear an actual genre in melvins, nirvana, mudhoney, green river, screaming trees etc
Thanks dude! Well, it's really good to know that we still have real rock fans around the world...I wouldn't like to believe that rock is dead, so let's try to raise a new era, man! HEY HEY, MY MY ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE!
grunge still lives on in music we listen to now. It isnt the clasic Nirvana, Meat puppets, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains. But they can definatley try to get back to that amazing music we all love
@VeryApe93 very cool little piece of music history i never heard about! jack definitely played a huge role in creating that seattle 'sub-pop' sound. he plays in a band now with my friend jamie called Kandi Coded.
I found this cd in perfect condition years ago and just unearthed my cd collection and wow amazing so glad i went to Goodwill and bought these cds for 50 cents
I just read a chapter of how they played that song at the their very first concert back in 1988. And I imagine myself there just like in the book everytime I listen to that song.
There are two deaths: The time you die, and the last time any one utters your name. Nirvana has died when the band broke a part, but is still quite popular
@jukawizard sorry if this has been mentioned before (didn't feel like searching all the posts here), but i'm pretty sure the 2nd vocal track is actually jack endino.
Your welcome old grunge fan. And I totaly agree with the so called annoying "college rock" bands that rule the charts these days. Looks like we have to raise the new generation for the Grunge culture again... Grunge will come back one day...
could you enlighten us to some of what made the real difference in grunge and college rock in the time kurt and nirvana broke out? wasnt nirvana first played on college radio stations? was k records college radio in olympia?
It is true about it being better to make something new. Thats the whole point in "idea". What point is there to make a band that has nothing to show but what's already been heard or known? Anyway, yeah... "making it big" comes with a personal ambition. But don't think that for a second, doing it for yourself and friends... without wanting to be known throughout the world for it, that it'll make you a better person than someone who does.
love nirvana, I don't think this song is just one song in the compilation album. why this song isn't in the bleach. it's better than school and about a girl.
@yarden4011 I really don't know what's worse. People who use the term "grunge" or people who write it the wrong way. Or, let's see, people who reduce Kurt to an idiot-media-created word to designate seattle sound in the 90's.
@dennisvanlith that is my mission;) and if it takes getting to MTV one day to destroy everything so i can never come back... so be it, it would be Kurts revenge anyways hahah.
nope. unfortunately it is not. grunge existed partially based upon the timing. it was a finite thing destined to exist briefly and intensely. any semblance of its existence today is not grunge itself, but rather a ghost of what is truly grunge.
The most underated of Nirvana's top songs. Kurt was only 16 when he wrote it. A pure genius at that age
Punk for life!!! 🖕
Why the hell wasn’t this on the With The Lights Out boxset?
forget that shit it shouldve been on incesticide
The thing about Nirvana that in my opinion is the saving grace of any band is the backlog. The big albums get old after a while, save for a song or two. This early stuff is Awsome
bleach and incesticide man the best.
@@dyr234 Muddy Banks
@@maddymud their are a few good live tracks on that album.
The Outcesticide volumes are where its at.
@@maddymud this is a lot better than the version on muddy banks.
i dont understand why this song wasnt on an album.... clearly the best

That high note gives me chills
00:58 This is the highest note Kurt ever made, it's a C#6
ShyLesbian c# actually
Wouldnt a C6 be a chord, not a note?
Tim Hale The number in this case refers to the octave of the note.
Gotchya, thanks. @@ypsito
I think his screams in School and Blandest sound higher. Let's get out the octave meter.
looks like Beavis is playing the guitar on the cover
i thought the same ngl
nirvana in 1991 and in 1989 are my favorite eras
The best version of Spank thru (At least for me)
me too, are you still alive? 7 years ago lol
Are you both still alive?

The backing vocal under Kurt's verses is Jack Endino :)
The Endino session is the coolest Nirvana rcording ever made imo.
Chad channing on drums
Chad is Channing on drums
Chad's such a great drum writer. I think Dave maybe had a little more stamina live but Chad is undeniably a genius on drums.
In the future when I hear this song it'll always remind me of summer 2013 because I've listened to this song a lot this summer (-:
Does it still remind you

I believe that's Jack Endino doing the 2nd vocal track.
Damn you can mention people? @jukawizard
Love the bass licks in this.great version !
"I think these guys are going to be really really BIG STARS"
I’m glad they ended up recording this

Love his growly voice when he sang like this🖤
So glad someone other than me that actually knows it WASNT "previously unreleased" as listed. hell it was on the Sub Pop 200 in 1988!

The greatest love song ever.
Proclaiming love to his dick 😂
I just read a chapter of how they played that song at the their very first concert back in 1988. And I imagine myself there just like in the book everytime I listen to that song.
So, that's Jack Endino's voice at the opening. Wow, I didn't know that!
@sinistertim101 this song was never recorded as a nirvana song, its only played live, the original is from kurts first band fecal matters I think
Happy birthday Kurt!!

Nirvana is fabulous!
In the beginning, the bass line sounds like No Sugar Tonight
F**king great version mate - this is probably my favourite version actually - although it is very good live
im just amazed there was a studio cut of this. yes its very good a pity it was n ever on an album.
The best version bar none. Pretty sure this version was also on one of the outcesticide cd’s I had back in the day
this is soooooo great!!!
Kurts voice, oh my god I love it
So many versions of this song knocking about and I cant fucking decide which one I prefer, they're all wonderfull
Thank. enjoy!
his voice........
I think he means "I first meet u" in the metaphorical sense. That's how I took it. He first started getting into them or first heard them in 1995.
I've always thought that too.
Why wasn't this song on Bleach?
Well it was, but not on the original ( at least I don't think it was ) , it's on my copy of the 2009 deluxe edition of the bleach cd
That Solo!!!!!!!!
@jukawizard

wow...imagine if they had released this song as a single for nevermind...
@dennisvanlith My band are one of the few still playing grunge and trying to bring it back.. it's a damn hard job.. especially in England!

He was not a bad drummer

@JoyGrenade Ignorance is bliss...
The fecal matter demo sounds way different, this is a re-recording. Don't be a weeny.
¡This interpretation is Sex Pistols vocals! Genious Kurt Donald Cobain.
fuck yeah!
They did in the new Bleach CD
@JoyGrenade they are
and so is alice in chains
There's a hint of Gn'R swagger in this one.
Actually this is not originally a Nirvana song, it's the only heard song from Kurt's 1st band "Fecal Matter".
FECAL MATTER AND NIRVANA ARE THE SAME BAND. SAME PEOPLE. HE JUST RENAMED THE BAND...
