      I agree that the new 2021 Kia Sorento looks miles better than the refreshed 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe however, the Santa Fe gets features such as Heads Up Display, Memory Seats, Homelink, Interior Ambient Lighting, heated rear seats, second row manual sunshades, smart park, digital key, and laminated driver and passenger windows in the US.

    • @OlJackBurton

      @@TheChosenYuan Same price fully loaded? What's crazy is that all those features you described are for a refreshed (heavily) Santa Fe to keep it competitive in the later years of its model cycle. An all new Santa Fe is only a couple years away and a refreshed Palisade and Telluride are only a year or two away...

      @@TheChosenYuan I really don't understand what Kia was thinking by removing all of these features from the US models. I'm wondering if Hyundai (being the mother company) is requiring Kia to drop the features in order to keep a leverage on their own vehicles.

    Best Sorento review yet! I just purchased the S trim yesterday. I wanted the EX , white ext., grey interior with captain's seats and sunroof--but it's a rare color combo. I bought the white ext. with black leatherette, sunroof, and 2nd row bench--a compromise, but has everything I need.

    I just purchased my 3rd Sorento(this exact model) last month. First was a 2013, and then 2016. I really wanted the telluride SX Nightfall but out of my budget, and there were a few things i was ok with not getting it. To me the new infotainment and tech set up and looks which was a 360 degree look from my last model and to me looks better than the telluride infotainment (looks dated)and dash display. The Sorento been around for awhile and is already established. No kids, so I honestly could do without the larger seating area in the third row, but could have used the extra storage from the telluride. Same size tires, better gas mileage and more torque. The few things that the Sorento doesn’t have that the Telluride has that i would have liked was the HUD, but not sure if it works just with its ownNavigation System, or with Apple CarPlay, multizone climate control, but like i said the back seats will mostly be empty for maybe once a year so doesn’t matter. I would’ve loved the rear window curtains(which was on my 2016 model) to block out prying eyes, programmable driver seats, and the rain sensing windshield wipers. But i will take the digital dash over the HUD, the infotainment system over the Multizone climate control, and shifter paddles over the rear window curtains.(to be honest I don’t know when i would use them, but do look, nice)I do have nice roof rails compared to rain sensing wipers. I only wanted a 360 camera, adaptive cruise control, and automatic braking in my next car and ended up receiving a plethora of other goodies purchasing this vehicle. I think the telluride front grill could have a larger opening, infotainment could have a better upgrade so after really thinking about it I’m very happy with my 2021 Sorento.

    Kia offers a lot of USB ports which is great. But they really need to update them to USB C so they don't almost immediately become obsolete. They also should replace the 12v with a standard household outlet for charge tables and other handheld devices. Especially since they don't offer any rear seat entertainment system.
    I agree it would have been a nice touch for the center console to have a charging port and a light. From what I can tell, none of these compartments have lining so be prepared for rattling. One thing that I really find annoying is whey the cell phone holder is too small for my phone.
    I have a flagship Samsung with a case, and always think how hard would it have been to make the space a couple mm wider? The same goes for the door bins. That are just a tiny bit too small for the standard water bottle.
    BTW, who says SUV owners aren't interested in performance? There are a dozen SUV that are among the fastest vehicles ever produced. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. Yes, these are premium brands, but VW also produces the Tiguan R at the same price as this Sorento.

    20:28 The reason new Asian cars use square cup holders is because all Asian countries have refused to accept American plastic trash for recycling. In the very near future, the US will likely phase out all plastic beverage bottles as they have nowhere to store the discarded bottles besides landfills and incinerators since plastic bottles (and plastic in general) are very difficult and expensive to recycle. Therefore, water, soda and juice bottles will mostly likely be replaced by cardboard cartons. On the bright side, your one liter water container is more likely to fit now, as square/boxed containers can hold more volume relative to overall space, or more accurately, they waste less space in terms of storage...

      The US does NOT get memory seats, HUD, interior ambient lighting, manual second row sunshades, 110V style household plug, or heated/cooled seats in the second row in the US. However, some of these items are included in Canada, EU, Korea, etc. I believe there is a factory/dealer installed option for auto dimming rear view mirror with homelink in the US but from what I can tell, this option isn’t going to be common for vehicles on dealership lots, if at all.

    Good review Lauren. I’m strongly considering the top end Sorento next year. The one thing that concerns me (and it’s huge!) is the switch from the 3.3 v6 to a all 4 cylinder lineup. The 6 has a sold reputation of durability where Hyundai/Kia track record with their 4’s have been very spotty. These are newer designs so the history isn’t for durability isn’t there. I like the power of the 2.5 turbo but again worry about the durability, warranty not withstanding. What’s your opinion on the smart stream 2.5 turbo?

    • @CarCoachReports

      That's a strange comparison. I watch a lot of car reviewers and her style reminds me more of Alex On Autos with a similar matter of fact approach (but more efficient/eloquent; Alex just seems quite wordy at times, while Lauren wastes like literally no words; she really has a gift) or Sofyan from Redline Reviews, and Forrest from Forrest Reviews. All of them excellent. She deserves way more views and subscribers than she has...
      EVs (which includes BEVs and PHEVs) are currently limited to about 3 million units produced a year because of bottlenecks in battery production and technology. About half of those 3 million units end up just in China and of the roughly 700,000 that go to the US, about half of those end up just in California. Other states don't have the charging infrastructure developed to support mass electrification, nor do they use much renewable electricity. There are other constraints like the reduction of government subsidies (particularly in the US) which make EVs less competitive in price albeit not in performance, where EVs are clearly the superior technology. Meanwhile, there are almost 100 million ICE vehicles produced every year and almost 1.4 billion ICE vehicles currently on the road compared to less than 10 million BEVs.
      Less than 7% of vehicles on the road are newer than 1 year (new vehicles) and less than 3% of that small number are BEVs. But if you factor in older vehicles, and ICE vehicles are lasting longer, much longer, easily up to 20 years, BEVs make up well under 1% of all vehicles on the road, the aforementioned 10 million out of 1.4+ billion vehicles. There are going to be be about 3 billion more drivers in the next 50 years due to the modernization of entire continents like Africa, especially, and South America and entire regions like South and Southeast Asia as well as the inevitable population growth doubling or more in these areas. What are they going to drive? We're going to need at least 10 BILLION more personal vehicles over the next 50 years. There is no way BEVs alone can meet that demand. There isn't enough convertible raw materials or the production capacity. The demise of the ICE is overblown. Countries can ban ICE vehicles in the next 20 years, but good luck with enforcing that. It will be over 50 years easily or beyond the lifetimes of most current buyers of BEVs, before the BEV will become the dominant vehicle type sold in the world, let alone the dominant vehicle on the road...

    I've checked with 3 different dealers and none have found any information on a conquest discount....does it really exist?

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is conquest cash?
      Conquest cash refers to a manufacturer incentive targeting drivers of competing vehicles. Automakers often use this tactic to challenge brand loyalty and increase market share. These are sometimes also called competitive conquest or competitive owner offers.
      Simply put, this type of incentive is meant to put a question into shoppers' minds to get them to consider another brand. It doesn't sound important, but the effects could be big if you consider a driver may stick with a set of brands their entire life.
      Leasing is an area in which conquest offers are especially common. That's because automakers know that lessees tend to be more loyal than most customers since it's easy to roll into the newest model at the end of a lease.
      Conquest deals often target owners of a broad range of competing brands. For example, Hyundai/ KIA offers a Competitive Owner Coupon on select models to owners of select non-Hyundai/Kia vehicles.
      Ask to speak to the sales manager.

    Wish they maintained the driver thigh extender, rear seat warmers, and hood struts. My pet peeve is hood posts vs struts. You’re right, safety shouldn’t cost extra. I think saving lives is a bit more important.
    How much are all these car manufacturers saving not including hood struts? My wife drives the last gen SXL and the naturally aspirated V6 shifts really well and the cabin is quiet. I’ll take the quiet cabin over a little better handling. For now we’re not going to run out and buy one.

      @morrilp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see reviews from others with DCT in KIA and Hyundai they DCT is burning out at 30K mile. They say that the transmission begins to slip like you are a teenager learning to drive a stick. A lot of reviewer say the dealership won’t replace the transmission if it slips periodically. So after 30k mikes you have to live with a slipping transmission. Also this is not an off road vehicle it overheats if you overuse the AWD. This is a grocery grabber or pavement princess at best. The telluride has a standard automatic less risk.

    • @krane15
      @krane15 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morrilp There are advantages and disadvantages to every type of transmission. The good news is Kia offer the traditional transmission if that's what you prefer.
      Hondas, for example, use continuously variable transmission (CVT), but again, they have limitations too. Just don't push them beyond their design limit. Most will shut off when they start to overheat to prevent any damage.

      The recommendations are difficult because everyone has personal needs and wants. You should buy a vehicle that meets your driving needs. So if you have a larger family and you need a three row. Don’t let anyone convince you into a minivan if that’s not what you want or need. The other factor to consider is insurance rates. You may find two vehicles that you really like and are torn in deciding which one is best. Typically insurance rates would make the different between vehicles based on replacement value and safety features. Let me know if you need more specific information, I’ll be happy to get you that information. Thank you so much for the kind words.

      The standard is 5/60,000 on the entire car. Then there's a longer powertrain warranty. Then there's an extended warranty for an addition cost. There's also a standard service/maintenance warranty at an additional cost.
      However, manufactures reserve the right to raise/lower their warranty at anytime. So this is where being an informed consumer works to the buyers advantage. The dealers won't tell you this.
