Just balancing pvp and pve separately using Battle Spirit would go a long way toward making more current and former players happy. I get that they want a more consistent product, but it's been an obvious problem for 11 years now. It's time to use that function more widely.
I haven't even been playing a year yet. And I haven't been playing as much as I use to (I have almost 2700hrs, I played a lot in the beginning)the past few months at least. It's a few things for me. But mainly because there isn't much to chase as far as rewards. Yeah, there's a few mounts and whatnot if you do trials perfectly (aka trifecta) but I'm not really into trials as they are more monotonous than I thought they'd be. And everything in the Crown store (& Crowns) is expensive. There's no incentive
This really is the biggest reason we have a massive lack of high end pve raider-type players. There's nothing for the higher skill/higher commitment people to work toward, so most of them are already gone. (And the content is mostly too easy for them.)
I think if they just keep adding solid changes people will come back. I think something to keep in mind is that not everyone who left the game left with a bad taste in their mouth. People also left because they were just burnt out of the game and were looking for that one thing to break the camels back so to speak. Not to say there werent grievances but I think all they really need to do is keep going tbh. Take in the feedback like hey we need some pvp stuff, hey we need some balance changes at a less frequent rate and they will be fine. There are new players that jump into the game and enjoy it, you can still find all content across the game being pretty populated except maybe tales of tribute. But the arcanist is a really fun class, infinite archieve is pretty fun (would love a 4-8player version of it as well). The meta is not that bad at all with alot of builds being pretty viable in the game, we are seeing shifts to a system in combat were you have to slot more things to get the passive buff rather then constantly reapplying them. There is alot of positive with the game that I think gets lost in the sauce, and with enough changes people will come back at different times. We also have to keep in mind alot of games are returning to their normal populations, covid era is done people went back to work and returned to their busy lives. With all that said I definetly do think there are things they can improve and such for sure but I don't think they need to super emphasis on winning back old players, they just have to keep making the game bigger and better and in time that will bring people back just as any solid mmo does.
The single thing ZoS has been promising for YEARS and keeps failing to deliver is SERVER STABILITY! why is pvp community ALWAYS put on a shelf and ignored. PvP is a huge smelly dumpster fire because from time to time it's unplayable. lag lag lag lag delay lag. It's the reason why I quit every time, it's not enjoyable to play a laggy game. This topic has already been on the forums for so long it already has grandchildren.
I played for over 5 years on xbox and then I quit playing games on console. My PC account was created 2 years ago and I only have about 200 hours in it. If I could transfer my xbox account to PC I would play regularly again. Starting all over again isn't as fun as I hoped it would be.
Quit about a year ago 9860 hours played, idk if there’s much they can do to get people back tbh. It’s more of a too little too late thing. They are so hard set in doing things they want and not what their player base wants. PvP doesn’t work, healing and tanking is boring beyond belief and chasing top tier dps numbers having to farm new sets every 3 months is exhausting. But that crown store always works. There’s little to no reward for content that’s way too difficult. Hard content is ok, but the game is not easy to pick up and play. There’s such a huge learning curve that new players will never reach. This creates a mile high club that’s impossible to get into for new players who want to raid. I don’t want them to nerf content, I want them to make the three roles more enjoyable and accessible to play. AOE taunts, meaningful damage for tanks and healers and make the majority of damage come from the abilities we use not the sets we wear. This will lessen the gap between good and awful sets. And for all the casual and housing people, ik this isn’t something you guys care about but you guys deserve rewards too. There should be cool skins for crafting achievements and more polymorphs and mounts as rewards for quests. For people who like PvP… well I’m sorry bros
Difficult to be objective, but I don't think the game's been in such good shape for quite a while. There are always the old salts who can nuke a world boss with a few well delivered farts and moan that it's become boring but I think they've forgotten how much enjoyment they've had and a lot of others are still having. I think the more important thing is to consider the people who love the idea of it but are so daunted by the sheer complexity and variety that they give up before they've even really started. Personally, I've reached what I regard as my own personal endgame several times then found some other things to do. But you can keep vH, I don't care that much...
The worry is that the combat devs have never apologised or admitted fault. They refuse to rollback any of the mistakes they have made and they are not talking to the community. So I hold little hope for the future.
I prefer roleplaying and single-player stuff with the occasional dip into PvE & PvP. The questing is simply not fun. It never feels like I'm crafting a unique story with my character, it feels like I'm just grinding out the story for a particular zone. The world doesn't feel alive and connected like it did with the faction questlines. The occasional evergreen, game-wide feature helps, but it's not enough.
I'm an end game player done everything got tired of chasing meta an having to pay for a craft bag.... craft bag plus ff14 came out for xbox finally so by an if you want to pvp or combat play BDO better graphics an the best combat in our category
I think it’s equally important to bring in new players as it is to retain your core and veteran audience/playerbase. A game will do no good long term if it’s not promoting any incentivizing or reward for long term gameplay. Looking at why people leave can point out glaring issues in any games and sore areas that the developers likely need to focus on.
@@Cooperharley0204 I joined during Blackwood and from what I can gather, it seems like ESO is suffering from the same thing WoW did. People are too nostalgic about the early days and are hoping to recapture the "magic" of their first hours in the game. It's unrealistic and sometimes people just get burnt out.
@@LemonyB. I don’t feel like people are nostalgic about ESO - people want stuff we’ve never been give: long term rewards, big PvP updates, more communication, etc. I’ve played WoW this whole time too. It’s VERY different in my opinion. But I get what you’re saying!
I left with U35. Here's why I will never come back. 1. The devs don't understand or play the game. 2. The devs don't communicate or engage with feedback. 3. Nearly every set is useless filler. 4. ESO+ is needed for basic quality of life rather than as an enticing bonus. 5. There are almost zero in-game rewards. 6. 99% of the content is braindead easy. 7. Classes have no identity. 8. The constant meta shifts are annoying and poorly executed. 9. There's no progression after like 1,200 CP. 10. The mounts and skins are lazy. 11. The new jabs animation is hilariously bad. 12. Trials are a net loss due to expensive potions, etc. with only trash gear as a reward. 13. Rich Lambert hasn't been fired. 14. Devs randomly destroy core skills (e.g. Blastbones). 15. Lowering the ceiling and raising the floor on damage disincentives good play. 16. Redundant group buffs/debuffs hurt class identity and diversity in group comps. 17. Hybridization is still not even halfway implemented. 18. Class balance is so bad that most endgame groups have 7-8 people on the same class, in the same gear, with the same kit. 19. The devs balance by spreadsheet with zero regard for fun, which they deride as "anecdotal." 20. They ban people all the time for their own mistakes (e.g. transmute fiasco). 21. They refuse to balance PVP/PVE separately. Could go on. There's a lot I like and miss about this game, but the negatives vastly outweigh the positives.
That’s very true. It has been a long time. The honest answer to your video, for me at least, would be expand on crafting. Allow me to decon furniture, etc. stop making me buy everything and let me earn it or craft it. Also some new weapons would be nice. All these different classes but the builds are basically the same.
I'm not going to log back in until crafting bags are free. Not holding my breath on that tall order. It's a basic requirement at this point and to pretend it's not is disingenuous. The time requirement is not equal to the amount of enjoyment given by ESO otherwise. Juice not worth the squeeze. Fix the bag space "problem " you created and stop changing builds every 36 seconds.
Everything in the game gives/drops you crafting material as well just to really emphasis on the need for the crafting bag. I just returned last week and dont even open my pvp rewards, dungeon rewards or loot anything, its borderline impossible and its designed that way.
The game only needs more immersion I think. Been playing helldivers 2 for 2 weeks. It has little lore, kinda small variety, no rigid builds or roles, but it feels soo good. It’s immersion. The visceral sound of my weapons smashing, slicing, or burning enemies. Watching them take those different forms of damage and SEEING how their limbs would respond to various attacks. ESO knocks it out of the park with gear sets, dungeon drops, cosmetics ect. But it lacks immersion. Idc about the rewards in helldivers2, it’s the actual gameplay that keeps me coming back.
Stop making harder content. Let me enjoy dungeons without cheap mechanics that rely on all players who know them but the instant one doesn’t the party leaves.
please, ESO don’t make brain dead content. Harder is good, there’s already a ton of base game dungeons and if dlc ones are too hard for you because of mechs just do it on normal where they don’t usually kill you.
Hmmmmmm…… Why not look at the things that made all the long term players quit and address the issues? Cough cough…. Patch 35. I know people who have left the game because they can no longer complete content on their favourite classes or have been nerfed so badly it is no longer fun. They still pop into the game from time to time to dip into content but then leave again when they find the situation has not changed.

Oakensoul was good for getting mid-tier players into harder content but not for endgame players.
Fire the entire top brass. Trust is permanently broken. These are political positions in the company, they will be picked up by other studios quickly and will have pay packages. They are stale here and it shows. Keep in mind this is in response to the question of what would bring back players. New management is the answer.
Pvp fix: good bye cross healing, good bye 8k weapon damage+40k+ resistances builds with 3k+ recoveries. Make ball groups in pvp a legitimate form of end game, versus a full on heal stack with a 3,2,1 ult mentality. PVE: make overland content remotely challenging Trials should be hard. Hardmodes should be hard. Make it challenging, make it not an open door for everyone. Vet dlc dungeons should also be hard; reward the lesser occupied roles more(good tanks/healers in pve content are RARE, reward those folks gamewide, make it actually appealing to perform those roles)
@@badger_ninja8681I agree but you can have both by introducing vet overland mode so people who want the challenge can do it but expscting people to not wear armor they worked hard is not how it works no one does that.
@@Jubafree I'm not saying they can't do that I'm saying they have increased the difficulty several times over the years. Any further would destroy the balance for new players. Vet version would just be boosted health to enemies and less damage done btw so I wouldn't ask for that if I were you. The development time for anything else would be absurd.
I could be way off base here but I'll offer my take for how they can bring people in. 1: A combat overhaul. ESO Combat isn't particularly bad, but its not great either. Only have access to 5 skills and an ultimate per bar seems very limiting, especially when you compare it to other MMOs like Black Desert that allows you to make use of dozens of skills through button combinations instead of just a single button per skill. I understand they would need to do some work on so other basic game functions as well if they were to go that route, such as movement in general, but that is a decision they have to make. 2: Have some zones require you to be higher level/CP level to complete, and if you want to do it sooner, they should design it so you can group up with other under-leveled players to complete it. 3: This one is probably going to be the most controversial, but they should make it so you don't have a class anymore. Its an Elder Scrolls game after all and they have always been about the freedom to play how you want. In order to not completely rebuild the whole game, they should allow you to pick a "starting class", like you normally pick a class now, but through questlines, dungeon content etc. you can acquire the skill lines to the other classes as well. Some adjustment would need to be made to some passives for it to work and to not completely break the game however. 4: This is just a personal wish of mine, but I love the lore of Akavir yet we get virtually nothing from that part of the Elder Scrolls world. I would love to see like a 2-3 year span of expansions into the continent of Akavir, preferably with some sort of PVP addition.
I've never played this crap, and I never will. Shit lore, ripoff plot that Oblivion did better, and horrible gameplay in general. I'd almost sooner play Starfield than give this shit so much as a chance.

Get rid of Rich Lambert and stopping paywalling the craft bag behind ESO+
I just got back into it , really enjoying it . But i had a break for a year
I think if they just keep adding solid changes people will come back.
Only if you pay to be a member can you explore every area
I played for over 5 years on xbox and then I quit playing games on console. My PC account was created 2 years ago and I only have about 200 hours in it. If I could transfer my xbox account to PC I would play regularly again. Starting all over again isn't as fun as I hoped it would be.
Class change tokens for free.
The best thing they could do is look at other mmos. They should start with Square and how much better FF 14 is.
They need to undo update 35. The light attack nerf killed the game forever for a lot of people. Dumbest thing they ever did.
That is when I quit and why I quit. Came back like a week ago and only play now because I like arcanist vibe
The worry is that the combat devs have never apologised or admitted fault. They refuse to rollback any of the mistakes they have made and they are not talking to the community. So I hold little hope for the future.
Spot on.
This idea that if an MMO doesn't have a 100% no-life community, then it's a failure, is a complete fallacy.
Why do they need to bring back people who have left? New people joining all the time. The game is in pretty good shape a decade later.
Harder overland
Stop making small adjustments with a full scale nerf dozer, listen to players feedback STOP MAKING FKN DUMB CHANGES NO ONE WANTS.
19. The devs balance by spreadsheet with zero regard for fun, which they deride as "anecdotal."
20. They ban people all the time for their own mistakes (e.g. transmute fiasco).
21. They refuse to balance PVP/PVE separately.
Could go on. There's a lot I like and miss about this game, but the negatives vastly outweigh the positives.
I love that they're pretending no pet sorc is new.
Feels new when it's been gone for so long lol xD
That’s very true. It has been a long time. The honest answer to your video, for me at least, would be expand on crafting. Allow me to decon furniture, etc. stop making me buy everything and let me earn it or craft it. Also some new weapons would be nice. All these different classes but the builds are basically the same.
I wish that the new PVP feature is some sort of league. Like Overwatch or Counterstrike.
Nah, it's probably an extra deck in ToT.
Homogenization Killed most of the game. Unbalance and proc sets have all but buried the interest and variety left
"promo sm" 🙋
Stop making harder content. Let me enjoy dungeons without cheap mechanics that rely on all players who know them but the instant one doesn’t the party leaves.
please, ESO don’t make brain dead content. Harder is good, there’s already a ton of base game dungeons and if dlc ones are too hard for you because of mechs just do it on normal where they don’t usually kill you.
normal level dungeons are easily doable sometimes without even a tank. you're asking to make vet content easier, which negates the purpose
What hard content?
Don’t make the new classes so strong they can ignore basic mechanics.
I just want them to stop nerfing classes
Hmmmmmm……
Why not look at the things that made all the long term players quit and address the issues?
Cough cough…. Patch 35. I know people who have left the game because they can no longer complete content on their favourite classes or have been nerfed so badly it is no longer fun. They still pop into the game from time to time to dip into content but then leave again when they find the situation has not changed.
Yeah that was when I quit came back for arcanist a couple weeks ago cause it looked fun
@@badger_ninja8681 How much fun is hitting two noodles followed by The-Green-Beam-of-Silliness?
Honestly, I have no issues with a new class but when it is so much more powerful than the other classes....
@@samuraichicken2315 that is not what I do and I could ask the same with heavy attack sorcs running around everywhere
@@samuraichicken2315 also what's fun with having a buffing stick that has no other purpose because the game thinks it's fun to reapply them every 30sec. Because that's intended gameplay
@@badger_ninja8681 I'm a stamden main: for me I like being able to switch between my melee and bow setups depending on the content. They're different playstyles and add a lot of variety. The arcanist has none of that because their main ability is so dominant.
I agree with your comment with Oakensoul HA builds. However, these builds were not parsing 200k dps in boss fights in trials!
PVE: make overland content remotely challenging
Trials should be hard. Hardmodes should be hard. Make it challenging, make it not an open door for everyone.
Vet dlc dungeons should also be hard; reward the lesser occupied roles more(good tanks/healers in pve content are RARE, reward those folks gamewide, make it actually appealing to perform those roles)
For new players in dlc zones overland is challenging. Maybe not run around in trial gear and full cp doing quests
Metas are boring 😑 So many armor choices with only a handful that are viable
Kill the tanky meta in pvp
It will not because it's a shitty MMO from a shitty company.
The combat is crap. Any weapon swap system requiring a separate button for the swap is horrid.
