They have known each other since they were kids. They are family. Family have fights but at the end of the day it's all love. NE learned as they went along. The key is to make sure everyone has their own space to grow. Everyone met back at the Mothership every few years but they all do their own thing, have their own projects. I've been down since 1983. I’ve seen Mike say in other interviews that he just wasn’t into the album process as he was on the Poison album. He was on his “Executive Mike” thing, while Ricky and Ron was in album mode. All 3 of them said that they were not being their authentic selves either, “Hootie Mack” was their term for weed, but they weren’t bold enough to openly talk about how they were living at the time. That’s why it sounds different. They were growing up still, but didn’t embrace it fully. I believe Mike says this on his interview with the Breakfast Club

That home again album is their best album ever. Sonically it is their apex in terms of their vocals and their personal individual musical expressions. To be honest i don't even think that they can ever do another exceptional album like that again. The only time i think they could was between 2004 to 2010. Bobby was still Bobby as far as his vocal energy. Now that time has passed. Everyone is older and vocally they're not there no more to have that home again sonically sound. Great interview these guys change the landscape of music.
