Great video, thank you! As a quicker workaround for the "rectangle dilemma", I set my Button padding to be 0 at the top, which put the button text a bit higher up, then I could just have a single solid rectangle going all the way across all the buttons at the front.

Great walkthrough! Heavy data models with more than 150-200 columns in the content type are not uncommon for big organizations and using multiple screens for model-driven apps is much more complicated. All users should pay special attention to the remark at 23:41 - watch out for those required fields!

    Hi Shane,
I am a fan of all your training modules. Your teaching style is amazing and instructions are clear and very easy to follow. So, thank you. Here is my question regarding the Tabbed design. I am creating an employee profile app where employees can fill out the form and insert their information. The data source/capture is a SharePoint List. I am following your instruction for creating a Tabbed Form. However, this app has two major requirements: 1) The employee skill sets (a multi-choice field) have nested Tabs meaning, the main skill Tabs include Software, Research, Fields, and Project management. These four branches of skills each have nested sub-skills. For example, Software includes at least 10 choices. Same patterns for Research, Fields, and Project Management. I have a problem assigning different skills to nested skills tabs. For example, I want to assign all employee's software skills to Software Tab and all his/her skills in research to the Research tab. How do I assign a software skill that is both under Skills (main tab) and under Software Skills (nested tab)?.
The second requirement is if the employee selects "Ohters, please specify" option from each tab, then there should be an associated Free Text Box so they can insert text and then data be stored in SharePoint list. By the way, I did post this question in PowerApps community a while back and have yet to receive any guidance. I appreciate any guidance or reference.
    Thank you

You must be psychic, because I literally have 2 projects I'll be starting next week that will benefit from a tabbed UI. One note, though, on the way you made the "tab" buttons: there is an easier way. Buttons are one of the few (maybe only? wait, no...images have it too) objects in PowerApps that have a "radius" property. You can set the radius for each corner of the button separately, so just set "RadiusBottomLeft" and "RadiusBottomRight" to 0 and they'll be square.

Another wow! Like others who've commented here, I needed this RIGHT NOW. How did you know? And, like others, I would like to see the multi-screen version. I have some SharePoint lists with dozens of columns. I had trouble getting these few columns to line up properly on only three tabs, so I'm guessing I'd lose my mind trying to do the big list on one screen. And as Dan Quayle (remember him?) once said, "A mind is a terrible thing to lose."

Another great video Shane. I have been watching (and rewatching) lots of them. I would like to know if there is a video where you use data from several sharepoint lists and create a new record in another sharepoint list using that data. ie a customer DB, a bill of materials etc being used for a final output. It limits the ability for materials which are not available being allocated to a client job order or can allow for incremental information to be added to a contract. ie if we are going to concrete a carpark for a client, it will take 20 loads and 5 days we can collect the contract details, customer details from 1 or 2 sharepoint lists, then have a list of consumed items (ie load of concrete @ 8 yds, some labour items, other costs selected from another SP list ( to limit the options ), allocate amounts such as hour units of labour, then save these records to a new SP list. This list would grow each day by one or more rows, but each row has a common contract number or client number to allow for aggregating the data for billing later???

    Hi Shane,
As always, excellent video - really helpful! Is there any news from the PowerApps guys as to when they might have a better solution for laying out datacard's in a form? The solution you have demonstrated is exactly what I need and works really well apart from the layout issues mentioned in a few of the comments here. I think I may end up using multiple forms on the same page with only the datacards I want to show for each section and then making the form visible depending on the button clicked. Is there any reason you can think of why this wouldnt be a good idea?

I have 7 user groups defined in my sharepoint and I already defined their permissions for a certain list in sharepoint. I created a power app where I have an edit form for that list. Hi Shane,
Thanks for another very helpful video! I am going to use the Tabs set up in conjunction with a Gallery of Machines.
For each device in the Gallery, I want to map an assigned tab,:3-5 different machines per Canvas/Gallery
In each tab will be a close up image of the machine I plan to use Tooltip for a lot of mouse over inf0. Additionally there will be one "Card" form with a collection of links to technical manuals and operating work instructions in the quality system "documentum" database
So my question to you is........
Instead of having Thingies (too technical?) visible based upon DisplayMode I have made them visible according to the Global Variable assigned on clicking the button.
Is this wrong or just different?
To code for Visible for all the "Thingies" that I want to show up when Button A is Selected
    Button: OnSelect Set(View, "ButtonA")
    Thingy: Visible View = "ButtonA".
Am I missing something as this seem simpler to code and would rather type less..and do less in general, especially if one can get the same results...LAZY I guess...

Shane, Thanks for the video, and the many others on PowerApps! Do you have any demos on how to utilize scrolling Screens and Fluid Grids? I'm interested in making a simple, but interactive, leaning module. Something that would take a user 3 to 5 minutes to complete that uses screen shots from web sites with overlaid buttons made to look like the clickable links on the site, so that I could interactively step a user through the demo. I think I've got most of how I want it to function worked out, and probably could do it using the tabbed form method you described here, but I"m super interested in using the scroll-able screen with fluid grids. - Its the option just to the right when you add a new screen, or if you look in the list of templates there is a PowerApps tutorial that uses what looks to be a complicated version of what I'm trying to do. - perhaps you could dumb it down and help your adoring public better understand the basics of how that method would work/look like.

Hmmmm...This is great if your form is not long, but my app form is 2.5 screens long from SP. If I set the visible like this , then I have tons of spaces between the datacards. If you move the datacards that need to be visible for associated tab (to the top for instance), they move due to over lapping datacards from the remaining not visible tabs or the remaining datacards move to justify your command. What I have done to overcome this (and most likely the long way of a fix) I selected the number of columns to be 24. This allows all of the datacards to be on one screen without scrolling. I then added a rectangle for each section of my form and Set the varTab to each rectangle. I added the controls needed for the Tabbed section of the form. The controls are set to populate the text box of the datacard to update SharePoint upon saving. This method just covers the screen with a box to allow flexibility of the controls and getting rid of the overlapping of datacards.

I've got 5 lovely tabs across the top, and I've updated all the datacard visible properties to show them in the right tab... but I'm working in a PowerApps Form on a SharePoint list rather than an app, so there's no gallery. As a result, when I edit an item in the list, the form is blank until I click on the first tab. I'm thinking I need to update the DisplayMode there, but if nothing has been selected so far, there is no varTab set, so I'm not sure if I can reference it,? I tried If(varTab = "", DisplayModeEdit, If(varTab = "Info", DisplayMode.Disabled, DisplayMode.Edit)) but it wasn't a happy bunny. I would be so grateful if you could help me get this final 1% done!

Everything worked fine until I tried to set variables to make users remain on same tab name when navigating between view and edit screen. Say, if a user selects tab B of view screen and navigates to edit screen, it should open tab B on edit screen. This functionality seemed working in app studio. But when opened through web link, no items were loading, and on relaunch of studio, I found incompatible type errors for the context variables set for controlling tabs(varTab). One tab would be for the user to submit their idea (they would only see that tab) and the other would be for those of us doing the backend work, assigning tasks to site owners, setting the priority level, updating the status, etc). We administrators would have access to both tabs. I'm pretty new to all of this so if there is a better way of doing this/switching between content types, can you let me know?
