Many don’t realize how often actors don’t actually meet each other when making a movie, and if they do it may be for one or two scenes; or how the filming sequences aren’t laid out in the order shown in the final film; or how the sets look in reality vs the film views. I’m no expert but I’ve had a little back door peek into it through affiliates. Pretty impressive

For more than 99% of the movie, they weren't interacting with each other in person. Speaking to his "dad" on the phone during principal photography was most likely Jake speaking to a production assistant.

Fun fact: Jake and Dennis were never in the same acene together. The only time was at the very end of the movie and it was filmed on a green screen with a stunt actor because Dennis was "tired of shooting the movie and ready to move on to bigger and better roles like 'In Good Company.'"
