Have you ever tried to put a ultra low capacitance transient voltage suppressor array in front of the g1 to protect it from fast transients? Like the GBLC03 that component should be able to eliminate the problem. Off course you have to discuss it with your customer as this modification costs money and can't be done for nothing... A friend of mine (RIP) came up with this many years ago and tried on a few radios. What he found was the transistor is so wide banded that even the output from it can kill the front end. +FEY I had a friend over with some coins and put them under the scope. It saved the pics so when sitting idle it reverts to them. Nice to see you noticed them. The basic front end on these are fairly simple. I would had loved to shown the tracing of the circuit. But was a bit pressed for time in this video with all the repairs in this week, I been sick for a week and then my brother in law passed. So a lot going on. But to truly follow the signal pass we would need to solder some test wires to the bottom of the board and bring them to the top. This way we would have test points since you can not power the power when lifted. I will make this a priority in future videos and should had really taken the time to explain that. Hi and no that is not a dumb question at all. I quickly found that the original part was no longer available. Doing a cross reference I found that the 3SK184(S) was a replacement. A guy named Clif Holland confirmed this also. He is a Kenwood guru.
Short answer, no. Although if the signal is strong enough and there is a bit of signal mixing you may be able to pick out something but not common. You would need to move further down in the chain to a mixing or IF stage to really pick up a legible signal.

Thank you. That is the issue that most folks cannot grasp. What to charge. If electronic repair is your only source of income, then you cannot work for free. If you are just doing it for a hobby and the fun of it that changes everything. A good price would be $45 plus parts and shipping. Someone like Motorola would charge double that.Hope that helps a bit.
Well, after the IFR fix you deserved a relatively easy one! What was the difference between the flux (goopy type) you used to remove the solder and the pen? +Dino Papas Hi Dino. Good to see you. Yes the IFR was a bit of work. So lets seeFlux. The goopy flux is 88%. 24 grams raw rosin powder with 6 grams alcohol and 2 drops Glycerin. The stuff in the pen was 60% by volume of the same. Yes all homemade flux.(1)And you were right about the mustache. I mostly edit out any part of my face but that one slipped by lol. Hi Kevin. The microscope in this video is the Dino-Lite Premier. It is a USB camera scope and is $250 bucks. Plugs into your usb port on your pc and run the software. The pc has several video output jacks for VGA using a video card. Most big screens today have a VGA input. I also have now a Amscope microscope

Do you mean Kaptan tape like this from Monoprice? Sorry, I couldn't understand your accent! LOL The wide Monoprice tape is for 3D printers but I could get some for both uses. I've got a hot air station but haven't tried using it for unsoldering parts yet, I've been using ChipQuick low melting point solder and it works like magic if you can get it on the leads. I just bought a radio shack HTX-10 radio off ebay. I'm pretty new to ham radio and studying for my license. I'm not getting inbound audio. It seems like I'm getting a signal but somehow its not decoding right. I'm not sure if you call demodulation. I made a video about it below.
