When it comes to pain medication, it is also very important to talk to medical staff about concerns you have. We learned after a back injury, I do not do pain medication well, especially with narcotics. I had the most basic codeine dose, and I was sitting in my parents' living room talking to a unicorn. And I did get withdrawals from that, although I was only on them for about a week. When my wisdom teeth were getting removed last year, the doctor originally told me he'd prescribe the same medication and I asked if there were any other non-narcotic options, and there were. He did say if the pain was too bad, I could just call and they would give me stronger, but what was given to me worked well enough to take the edge off. Still, love Misha for being so honest.

Adding to his good advice about medication. Do not flush medication down the toilet!
You’re supposed to return unused medication, in Sweden we bring it back to the pharmacy.

I am 3 weeks post-op from having hip surgery and I am also a registered nurse. It is great to get off the narcotics early on, BUT you must slowly wean yourself. I normally take the pain medications as scheduled the first few days, then I start weaning. Start by pushing the doses further apart for 2-3 days, then stop taking them. NEVER just stop medication, Unless you are having an allergic reaction.

I have had times when I had to use oxycontin for a few days but never had any trouble stopping it. I only know that it is very relaxing, but the constipation is very uncomfortable. After stopping , most have a bout of cramping and diarrhea. I think it's important to know, because no one will tell you that. Same for most opiates. So eat very lightly while taking it or the discomfort will be greater. Dialing down the dose is good as well, but it is really not such a big deal if you don't abuse it.

He was just saying *his* experience. Also given he's told stories about his history with drugs and drug use/partying when he was younger, he definitely knows he has an addictive nature maybe? Does everyone have to always be in lecture mode?

Only note here: don't flush medication down the toilet if you have any other options (like calling a friend to take them away, or waiting to dispose of them properly). It's very bad for the environment when medication is mixed in with our waste water. It should always be returned to the apothecary/drug store.

Both of my brothers got addicted to narcotic pain killers. One committed suicide in 2009, the other turned to heroin when the pills stopped providing the high he needed. He's clean now, but it was one hell of a long road for him and his family.

Glad she asked this question, because I - at late 50s - need a hip replacement as well, and thought if I could ever make a Con, this is the question, I'd ask Misha.
Luckily for me, narcotics don't bother me. Though I've never had oxycontin, I've had morphine.

OxyContin and oxycodone make morphine look like Disneyland. Morphine makes you itch for a little and then wears off. Oxy’s don’t. That’s why they’re so easy to get addicted to.

미샤 귀여워 😍 그는 결국 왼쪽 오른쪽 두번의 고관절 수술을 받은거지요? 지금은 잘 회복된 거 같아 보여서 다행입니다. 영상 공유해 주셔서 감사합니다.

Yeah, I think he did. He has dysplasia I believe, and it's potentially dangerous without having surgery to correct it, so that's why he had the hip replacements done.

Don’t cut meds cold turkey. And don’t flush them.

He wasn't advising that, he just told *his* experience. Someone asked him.

@@kate-oh3ey he didn’t state that you shouldn’t do that. I’m advising other people If they listen to this and they see this comment. I’m sorry just trying to help
