Yeah really enjoying these videos John. Helps to make sure I’m planting correctly. Food plots seem to be my nemesis. Been a real struggle going no till fir me.
I like that sandy soil mix with sweet feast, 3 lbs radish additional, clover blend and red clover around July26 to 31st. If little to no growth add rye every 3weeks starting August 20th. Around Harrisville mi area. 5 miles off lake Huron. The field is 2 acres. A recent timber cut. Found millets grow better in summer than buckwheat
I planted clover and chicory in Arkansas. Not much rain and it's been very hot. The chicory has really held up and looks real good. I'm hoping my clover will come back with the rains.
Hey John yes the turkeys did a number on my plot eating the seeds, as well as the damn drought in upstate New York probably one reason my buckwheat didn’t take next season gonna try another approach and bury the seeds a little making it tougher for the turkeys too eat me out of house and home
Maybe drag them in. In NY also. Buckwheat took but the seeds planted into it after I rolled it over didn’t. Some of the brassica came out after rain but they’re a month behind. The NWW forage mix came up but I decided to throw a bunch of rye out twice over three weeks. That is coming out good. Good luck
John, had a bad catch because of draught,NY. Winter Rye salvage this year. Is there any chance of a video showing Switchgrass, from seed to full growth? Thanks , great video.
Question,we planted a 1 acre plot,2/3 to 1/2 perrenial clover and brassica,( your brassica) ...can i mow it with brassica mixed in.saved 1/2 a bag for a late summer overseeding.1st year mixing.full sun ,plenty of water etc. Not in the woods.
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 no,did a mix a month ago, tilled went back over the planting with a chain link fencedrag.never planted brassica prior.can we mow the mix growing now to control weeds, maybe leftover rye the turkey flocks missed.
I planted my red clover and had rye grain from last season coming up after I had mowed. The clover didn’t seem to do very well. However we had drought too this season. Can you plant the clover into rye and have it be successful or is it better to plant with a clean plot and once clover establishes come back and over seed the rye?
How far do you put your stand from kill plot and how do you sneak out once shooting light is up or is there not many deer still feeding on it after shooting light? Are these kill plots more effective than dumping bait cause I would rather not dump bait
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 so I would need to have some kill plots inside of woods and one big one outside of woods? I just have a 30 acre woods with ag fields all around me. I don't really have any tillable ground to plant a big plot outside of woods so I was thinking about making two 1/8 to 1/4 acre kill plots in the woods
The pallet idea sounds great for the diy, low finances guy!

We only notill if it’s absolutely necessary. Our best plots are minimal till/ one shallow pass.

We are finding burying seeds is more effective than the notill stuff in many cases. Better and quicker germination and the birds can’t get the seed

Dan
We will have a lot of switchgrass videos in the coming year.
From prep to planting .
Hope the plot works out
Same here in NY. Rye rescue
Good job
My seclusion 360 has done anything and it's been 4 weeks. Sweat feast just starting to sprout at 4 weeks.
Our July planted plot is up 4-6 inches

Not sure what you are asking…..
You want to plant brassica now I. Clover?

None of my rye is taking. The 3rd layer I'm just going to broadcast the test of it heavy and chalk it up to experience.
We find broadcast rye needs 2-3 good rains to get growing. Especially on our clay soils.
All
Our first round of rye was buried and is doing great.

The clover may pop with these rains and cool temps. Or you can frost seed into the rye in March.

20-25 yards

They usually move on after 5-10 minutes heading to the bigger destination plots

Zero disturbance
But it’s all part of a system
Small plots feed into one big plot
