Yep, WOW, Rock ON Babe.... LoL, Yessssssss, yummy, Listen to the bass lines, that guy and of course the guitarist are some of the best you will ever hear. Makes me cry too, at the beauty of it.
Watching you emote is exactly how I think I felt the first time hearing this. So gratifying to see someone else tune in so similarily. Thank you for a great reaction.
YES, "YOURS IS NO DISCRACE". Sarah, I've watched your reactions for what seems like an eternity. Just am so impressed by your love for the great iconic music of yesteryear. I would agree with the assessment of this song. There are so many songs that the Music and arrangements are up beat. Then when you hear, and understand the lyrics it seems to be quite the opposite. I guess it's what make those songs so great. Lovely reaction. 🎶
I love it! I grew up on this band and many others, Yes, Sananta, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Best concerts I've ever been to and at 63 years old I remember them like it was yesterday. Many, many more. Real bands live in concert will surpass the test of time.
A song this long usually has some dull sections. This is a treat for the ears all the way through. This has always been my favorite among the many great songs by Yes.
Oh, it’s Yes doing an anti-Vietnam war song. Contrasting those who “played” at Caesar’s Palace casino with those off to a futile war in a distant place in the early 70s 😊 Oh, you get it halfway thru. Well done! Many don’t ❤🎉
Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes throughout its history, up to nineteen musicians have been full-time members. They have had a lot of great songs such as "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Going For The One", "Masquerade", "Heart Of The Sunrise", "The Gates Of Delirium", "And You & I", "Starship Trooper", "I've Seen All Good People" etc.
Christine Robinson said it well: Anderson chooses lyrics without regard for expressing meaning, but rather, simply because they sound good together. "Close to the Edge" was a stellar example of this kind of artistic lyricism. It's so cool to see you swept away by the music.
A great band hi my friend a young gentleman taking TH-cam by storm is ren - hi ren this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks and is pure genius love this guy and what he is about love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
Cheers young lady a great band from when I was a young lad. But if you have the time have a look at Yes - South Side Of The Sky - Live in Birmingham 2003. This song still gets me old legs moving.thank you stay safe and all the best from England.
For whatever reason, "best guitarist" squabbles (which are kind of lame in the first place) rarely include Jeff Beck, and never include either Jan Akkerman (of the Dutch band Focus) or Steve Howe. I don't get it!
One of the most important things concerning YES is that they are always playing in a very groovy and rock kind of prog music, they never lost the feeling for the roots of it all. I also love all of the other Prog Bands, just to name Genesis, but Yes are a value of it's own, that's why they are my favorite prog band up to 1972. Prog needs to be groovy and funky or - on the other hand - very fusion and kinky, like vdgg or magma. YES are sometimes this, sometimes that.
I think the live version of the song on the Yessongs album is even better. Technically, of course, the recording isn't that good, but it's smoother and more dynamic.
Great to see you getting lost in the music again Sarah. Good luck interpreting Jon Anderson's lyrics; I never could be sure what his mystical/spiritual points of view were, other than beautiful&powerful. I saw Yes several times in the early/mid '70s, and they performed their complex oeuvre as well live as on their lps... Only Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (ELP) and Jethro Tull were similarly impressive IMO. Peace&Love
I’ve seen you do CTTE and possibly Gates of Delirium (hard to keep up with so many reactions); but can I urge you to try later incarnations on the Drama album; the 90125/Big Generator albums, and the last true and soul-affecting album they did (and on this version re-released with the Drama lineup who wrote it in 1980)… the wonderful Fly From Here but make sure it’s the “Return Trip” version with the Drama lineup in full and released after bassist Chris Squire died (but which retains his baselines and harmonies)? Only Cynthia Ambrose has touched that and she did the original and not the Return Trip release. Sorry they are so complicated. But that’s half the appeal ❤🎉
You got like 99% of it! Most don't. I take "winter" to be "nuclear winter". If the war causes once side to use its nukes, then the other side uses theirs in retaliation. The band is not putting any blame on the soldiers for that action ("yours is no disgrace"), the blame belongs to those who started the war, and the generals who just move things around a chessboard with no regard for those who are fighting and dying.
@@SarahDengler @Ronald Morgan You nailed it, both of you. For once Anderson was writing about current events in fact: he said in an interview that Yours Is No Disgrace was written in 1971 on behalf of soldiers who were getting so much hate upon their return from Vietnam, saying they were not to blame for the madness& lies of the leaders that sent them off to fight a dirty war. Sarah, when in the middle of the reaction you sort of murmured "Ah, this is about war," I was like, "Holy shit, she got it!" Even a lot of hardcore Yes fans still don't know this. A lovely display of intuition there. And Robert, I never thought of that nuclear winter angle, but I like it! (Correction: written in 1970)
Hey Sarah, do yourself a favor and see Yessongs the film. I think you're familiar with most of the music at this point. It changed my life at the age of 14. I'd also recommend some early Peter Gabriel era Genesis.
@@SarahDengler Well I've got more than I can name. Concerning Genesis, most agree that the essentials are: " Supper's Ready ", " Firth of Fifth", and (my favorite) "Cinema Show". I promise, you'll love them all.
Dont try to decipher the lyrics on Yes songs you wont get anyehere lol. Caesars palace is a Casino in Las Vegas. I believe this song was inspired by John's view of some types people spending there money gambling. Its fascinating to me to learn where song writers get thier lyrics from. if that interests you then listen to some of The Guess Who music and Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO) then watch the Video Vinyle Tap. Whoever created this mix intentionally boosted the bass the to the detriment of the rest of the players on the song. I'm a great fan of Chris Squire, one of rock's all time monster musicians, but it annoys me when internet fuckwits mess with musical perfection, as if they know what's best. Buy the Yes Album, plug in your headphones and listen to the masterpiece as it was meant to be heard. You can thank me later.

1973 this was the first song I had heard from YES been a fan since. Thank you for keeping the flame lit.
One of my favorite bands when I was younger and to this day. Saw them many times in concert. Excellent live performances.

Fabulous group and great song!
Absolutely Pa
I appreciate this song even more after watching your reaction. A meaningful song
My first ever Yes track (and Album), aged 15 in 1971.
I was hooked and my Yes Journey had begun. 🎶❤️🎶
Wonderful reaction. Beautifully stated. Thank you. Glad to see you truly enjoy Yes music.
Thank you 🙂
Yes 💪 beautiful reaction. Danke.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Shemanic🙂
Classic song by yes rock group making a 70s very classic song
the first Yes song I heard, age 14 in 1971...instantly hooked
I was 12, maybe 13 by the time I heard it and felt the same way. Was fortunate to see them twice in the mid-70s.
Ditto.

Nice Sarah. 🙏🍁
I have been a fan of the group since 1970. I saw them at their 50th Anniversary at the 02 in 2018.
Chris Squire. What an absolute beautiful genius
Love is in the air. No nothing about you. Thanks for listening to the music of my childhood.

Love your reaction, it is spot-on. Anderson said he writes his lyric for the poetic sound of the words rather than a straight forward story.
Thank you 🙂

Nice to hear you back on the YES Train, Sarah! The greatest band ever! Don't wait so long to do the next one.🤩
I won't 🙂

Owner of a lonely heart was so far from their origins, it made me sick at heart.
@Christine Robinson your correct but it gave Chris and Jon the payday they so richly deserved. Made them multimillionaires
Didn't think of this as progressive when I first heard it. Was just beautiful music. What I heard growing up.
Christine Robinson said it well: Anderson chooses lyrics without regard for expressing meaning, but rather, simply because they sound good together. "Close to the Edge" was a stellar example of this kind of artistic lyricism. It's so cool to see you swept away by the music.
Excellent
This is from The Yes Album, which doesn't have a bad song on it. Great musicians!
You are so right--every song's a keeper.
excellent

Long time since you did some Yes. Thanks! Hope you like it 🎉

10:20 - Even your child seemed to like the song 😊😊😊
Listen to 'And you and I' next hunni.. just remember these songs were made 50 years ago..
I never realised how meaty this song was, with every instrument up there in your face..
Sarah - great reaction...and what a thoughtful interpretation of lyrics that, often, don't seem to mean anything!
Love yes. Try The song America from yes🤘❤️
A good song...a bit lengthy. Once I edited it down to a tasty five-minute instrumental. No vocals at all. (Sorry, Mr. Anderson.)

Hi Fred, welcome back! 🙂
Thanx so much, Sarah! I have too many subs (lots of diverse interests), and some of my very favs get lost in the weird algorithm.
Yes too? I think you my favourite TH-cam person of the month!
You gotta react to "The Gates of Delirium" which is all about war with a long instrumental battle in the middle.
I prefer the version on the triple LP Yesongs
