    Sometimes it’s wise to revise plans if you are not feeling great. It’s supposed to be enjoyable,so there’s no point flogging a dead horse. It was great to watch you covering a good distance and I enjoyed the sights on the way. Thanks for taking us along Sandy.

    Better a live donkey than a dead lion, as Shackleton said. It's the better person who curtails a journey to fight another day rather than sacrifice themselves for the sake of glory. Some beautiful sights en route, and I've never been to Frome, but that looked a pretty place too

  • @TheRamblingsofBry
    @TheRamblingsofBry ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice trip out guys, and great to see the tunnels with a light. That valley at 9:00 is so stunning, really magical. Interesting to hear how the apple tree came about. A wise move to head for home, never any point in pushing yourself, you have nothing to prove. I actually watched part of this whilst I was riding...!!! I got the exercise bike back out the shed, and now do a gentle ride once or twice a day, I also use an exercise band, so have added that into my little workout. Since surgery, I have piled on weight [currently at 19.5 stone]...so watching you is an inspiration. Rest up, both of you... that journey will still be there when you are 100% fit.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welldone Bry, It is so important to get some exercise, it doesn't have to be marathon stuff, just a gentle exercise just to gently raise the heart rate and burn a few calories.
      If you burn more than you put in then you will lose weight but again don't go mad. Gently gently catch the monkey. Weight lost fast is often put on again fast, lose it slow and steady

    Well another great adventure out and about! sorry you two were a bit under the weather, but kudos for the distance to did complete. and once again. you never cease to amaze me with producing yet another local name that came from there. Hungerford. Castle, we have a street here in Pittsfield Ma, called Hungerford Ave. and I see on the map Salisbury. been there down near Boston Ma. I have relatives there. love the tunnels. I remember them from another video. I can see now that just about 60% of all the towns and cities around here are sister to that area. We have a Shaftsbury Vt just about 10 miles norther of my home. So now we can see why my home is called "New England" my link/lne comes down from Canada. Nova Scotia my Father's birthplace. and where I get my Scot,Irish, English bloodlines. thanks for pushing on glad you and Dave survived and were not seriously pulled down from the trek. My part of the country but it looks so different from a bike than a car and getting places I haven't seen for years. I think you have answered your own question about being tip top with the obvious answer by doing and showing as you can be as tip top as you want to be, or enough. Nice hot soaky bath for you both when you get home. But again Sandy, hats off to both of you as you may not have all your health, but nothing wrong with the backbone of either of you.

    The drone shots of the stepped locks was really impressive!
    As I have said before, thank you for bringing me on your adventure. You are inspiring me to take the kids on something similar. Hope Dave and you feel better soon. Are you wearing padded shorts? They don't look good but they make a difference 😀 ps they are 2 lovely doggies to welcome you home!

      Thanks as for short, no, just normal clothing. I have since replaced the saddle with a different type which is so much more comfortable. No need for lycra or padded shorts

    Great ride and wonderful scenery. Too bad you couldn't do the planned route but having been less that 100 percent myself in the field, I know how difficult it is. Best place to be is home! Hope Dave recovers soon. Thanks for taking us along on your ride. 👍👍👍

      Two tunnels are well worth a visit, heading back towards Bath is also downhill all the way

    Oh well never mind, there is always next time - not worth flogging yourself if you're not feeling it. BTW I never looked back going tubeless .. I carry a spare tube just in case .. but one of those superlight tubolitos tubes. However you still have to maintain them (i.e. top up the sealant every 3 months or so if needed etc.). I would do two wraps of tubeless rim tape, don't trust what's on the wheels already .. I like 'dynaplugs' when I do get a puncture that doesn't seal, but that's very uncommon. Oh you need a pump with a chamber to get the tyre seated or use something like an 'airshot' canister.

    A great ride anyway Sandy , best not to push on at your age , only joking . I'm 70 and used to run out of puff on a normal bike till i got my e-bike . Hills and headwinds are killers . Pity you couldn't take your e-bikes but nowhere to charge up or time to charge . 2 batteries would have got you at least maybe 60 miles each . Great scenery and drone work :-)

    • @WiltshireMan

      Ebikes are great but as you say they do have drawbacks with weight and getting the battery charged on longer trips, so I will always use pedal power for my longer trips and live with the slower pace

    That was a very nice look at a great bicycling adventure Sandy. 117 miles is not a short ride, that is for certain. You made the correct call on not going the full trip that you had planned my friend. There is no logical reason to keep going and risk your health and continue punishing yourselves and not really creating any intense joy. There will be an abundance of "next times" so no worries there. The tire puncture was a downer, but, you were prepared and handled that beautifully and turned it in to being just another part of the experience. Thanks to both you and Dave for sharing your time with us again. See you on the next one. Cheers!

      Oh sorry to hear you had a fall did you hurt your self? I used where those short finger leather cycling gloves the give your hands some protection if you come off. It’s the shock which can be as bad as the fall . Take it easy for a bit 👍🚴🏾‍♂️

      @@MsDenver2 I didn't feel a thing at first Donna but the pain started to set in a short while afterwards and got worse toward the end of the ride. Taking it a bit easy today and pain is starting to subside if I sit still. Just a cracked rib fortunately. Things will be back to normal in a few days. I was lucky :)

    Sandy, lovey ride and a shame you couldn't complete the whole journey. Looking at your planned route, you would have cycled through my village - maybe next time.
