Jack Hewitt...now there's a name, I remember him racing grand nationals for Scruffy Donaldson here Perth WESTERN AUSTRALIA way back in late seventies in the US off season. I think Jack drove for JB Hunt at the time. Terrific guy to work with. Thank you to who posted this great memory. I'm pushing 74 this year.
Larry Dickson , was one of the best dirt drivers ever , I saw him race so many times in southern Ohio , and what a great guy to know , thanks Larry for all the great times at the race track !!!
and here we are 40 years later, its now 2023 as of this writting, and though it was iffy at the end of last season the action track will continue with another season, and its indeed still the hulman classic only its not with sprits its the big cars the roadsters the silver crowns, and terre haute is still flat and mean, and this time the last dirt half in indiana though we have had a few tracks come and go, we did gain a dirt track for a cherity race at the brickyard named after bryan clausen who was a very good very kind driver that even raced in the 500 but died in a midget after his roll cage was hit the next day after and was an organ donor, and we have a 1/4 at the marion county fairgrounds in indy with circle city, saddly the state fair mile while still there is surfaced with limestone so its only good for parking and harness horse racing, no longer for auto sports or quarter horses or thoroughbreds. but we still have plenty of bull rings and winchester as well as salam and irp which might eventually put in some sort of base for a dirt track but is now home of the hoosier hundred a full 100 miles though many like me currently feel a temp dirt track should be put down since the hoosier was the crown jewel of the dirt races in the champ car days second only to the indy 500

Terre Haute puts on some good racing but it's a shitty place. Someone needs to put some money into it and update that place. It could probably use some new dirt and a catch fence around the turns.
is it me, or are these kids spoiled? okay i'm young, but when i was a kid i was just greatful they played sprint/midget races on espn thunder. i didn't know they covered sprint car races as far back as this, and the guy's bitching because it's an old tape..i'm just greatful i get to watch this

Yes he was.....He was the driver for my Grandfather in 1975 when they won the USAC National Sprint car Championship!.....Great guy GREAT driver!
I grew up in Springfield IL so most of these names raced here also , Lots of good drivers here
