+Alison O'Connor No they aren't, Joanna Gleason is married to Chris Sarandon. The actors playing Cinderella and Prince Charming met whilst doing the show and are married.
I only just realized... At 1:40, when the text is "You're passionate, charming, considerate clever" it sounds eerily similar to when Cinderella's prince describes himself ("Am I not clever, well-mannered, considerate, passionate, charming, as kind as I'm handsome..."). I find it a strike of genius on Sondheim's part that the woman who later cheats on her husband with a prince should in a moment of rekindled love and passion for the baker describe him as something so much like the prince she dreams of...
Nina I think you’re referring to “A Very Nice Prince” in the original Broadway Recording. However, I think that part was cut for the actual Broadway production.
Reese Howell No, the line "Did you dance? Is he charming? They say that he's charming." was definitely in both the OBC album and production. Not sure why it would be left out of the latter.
This was so geat! By the end they were fully in character, back to the original show, with all the same choreography, and they just traveled back in time, and it was so cool to just watch them do that! I love these two, they'll always hold a special place in my heart.
I always think Joanna Gleason is perfect for Sondheim. Has she done any other shows? She'd be wonderful as Phyllis in Follies, Joanne in Company and I bet she'd make mincemeat out of Mrs Lovett in Sweeney!
Curious if Joanna was expecting the kiss in the end, she looked a little surprised but the last kiss was the best for the two of them. Side note I put the 1991 against this and I actually like Chip's voice a little more in 2010. Loved seeing them sing again together. Chip seemed a little bit more enthusiastic in this clip than Joanna. She was awesome and all but I feel like she was holding back with Chip slightly with her body language. They both look terrific
Me: I'll watch this once I promise Also Me: Watching this over and over screaming yass like that vine YAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaSSSSsssss ❤️❤️
This makes me so indescribably happy. I am so sorry I did not see this till today... 8 years later. But I still watch clips of these two, right here on TH-cam, in that brilliant original production.
I met them both during the original San Diego run (Watched the last 30 minutes almost every single performance). Both of them genuinely wonderful people.
was that niles from frasier introducing them? also my god they havent aged at all. joanna still looks the same as she did in 1986 and their voices still the same gahh they are perfect
I really wish those two would go on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' as Corden played the Baker in the 2013 Into the Woods movie. Maybe they could have Emily Blunt who played the Baker's wife there as well.
They've both still got that chemistry. I think doing the song now that they are older and wiser really adds a certain charm to the song.
+Bridget Slade Well it makes sense, they are married. Apparently they fell in love while they were doing the original Broadway production.
+Alison O'Connor No they aren't, Joanna Gleason is married to Chris Sarandon. The actors playing Cinderella and Prince Charming met whilst doing the show and are married.
+Alison O'Connor To be honest, I kind of wish they did! But they're really close friends in real life, though.
Charming! ;-) thank you!
It’s obvious that these two roles meant a lot to Chip and Joanne. They are not just colleagues, they are good friends.
There voices haven't changed one bit since 1986.
What do you expect? Chip has his 70th Birthday around the corner.
I love chip and Joanna's voives way even more now
Exactly!
*Song starts
Joana: "You've Changed..."
lol
I love that Sondheim just looks so damn satisfied at the end... He's like "That's the baker and his wife alright, and that is how you do it!". xD :')
Perfectly said!
That kiss at the end omg I’m crying
She actually hasn't aged a day, my god.
She's a goddess to be worshipped.
Chip sounds EXACTLY the same😂
They both do.
Seeing Chip without curly bushy hair is an acid trip
He's aged well. He looks GREAT. Very distinguished (and mischievous).
That hair was only for the stage.
Chip's voice hasn't changed a bit... This makes me so happy! :)
Chip sounds exactly the same but looks different. Joanna looks exactly the same but sounds different. Perfect.
They both look and sound the same, for those of us who don't look quite as closely, as others.
I FUCKING LOVE CHIP ZIEN
RIP Stephen Sondheim and thank you for EVERYTHING! This is such a charming but very difficult song
Saw them both, numerous times, during the original run. They have lost nothing. She still has that great sparkly smile.
I only just realized... SingenStatt Atmen not to mention that the bakers wife also asks cinderella "was he passionate charming..." i think during their first meeting.

Patrick Vaughan not that line, it was the line after that.
The genius of Sondheim.
if anyone is ever having a bad day, watch this clip of these two performers, and you will forget why you were having a bad day!!
I always see it coming but the kiss at the end always catches me by suprise and gives me butterflies
This was so geat! By the end they were fully in character, back to the original show, with all the same choreography, and they just traveled back in time, and it was so cool to just watch them do that! I love these two, they'll always hold a special place in my heart.
This is so cute, in the end they were doing the blocking and everything aww
these two simply personify what it is to entertain an audience. they are magic together...
They look older, but sound, and have the same chemistry like the years haven't passed since the original production. :)
Never get tired of this show...have seen pros and kids and community and college versions...I could listen to Chip zien sing all day...
I come here regularly for a sip of pure joy.
Okay but I couldn’t help but smile the entire time while watching this
Why am I crying to see hear their voice which have never changed a bit since 1986? I’m just so happy.
I always think Joanna Gleason is perfect for Sondheim. Has she done any other shows? She'd be wonderful as Phyllis in Follies, Joanne in Company and I bet she'd make mincemeat out of Mrs Lovett in Sweeney!
they still sound the same aww
I like when Chip Zien turns toward the audience and says, "It's not true." I don't know why. I just like it.
Awww so much chemistry. I’m shocked they kissed. So sweet. She still has the same smile after they used to kiss
God, do I feel lucky, lucky, lucky to have seen ITW with them the week it opened!
I’ve been obsessed for 36 years - since I first heard Joanna Gleason sing “woods” that way when I saw the show opening weekend!
They are both so great. I've loved Chip Zien since "March of the Falsettos." And I've had a crush on Joanna Gleason since "Hello Larry"!
Curious if Joanna was expecting the kiss in the end, she looked a little surprised but the last kiss was the best for the two of them.
Side note I put the 1991 against this and I actually like Chip's voice a little more in 2010. Loved seeing them sing again together. It did look like he tricked her with his kiss me on the cheek gesture right before. Cheeky!
That’s how it was originally staged
@@bigred8432 Direct from the original, absolutely correct.
I was able to see them live on Broadway in 1988 and they were phenomenal.
They're still so sweet!!!!
They sound absolutely brilliant, I look up to them so much and I would LOVE to perform on Broadway
Don't worry! Follow your path and you will find what you're looking for!
Chip's voice is still there, but more beautiful and stronger
.
she’s quite simply the love of my life
Joanna Gleason is so beautiful.
I LOVE CHIP ZIEN SO MUCH
What a blessing to have these two at it again.
God, I love this. Both of them so charming, so cute, so likeable and something else indescribable. Delicious chemistry.
Chip is National treasure!!!
They sounded just the same, just as charming.
SO MUCH JOY!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Me: I'll watch this once I promise
Also Me: Watching this over and over screaming yass like that vine

Stephen Sondheim had to be truly pleased. These two are dazzling.

No wonder she looks so good...her father (Monty Hall) is 93!
Oh my word, that was David Hyde Pierce at the start. I LOVE that guy!

LOL THAT WAS NILES and omfg right
Hi *2020*
I didn't know the name of the baker till heard the voice, it is still as the same as the 1991 recorder.
This is even more poignant now. How lovely.
Chip looks different but sounds the exact same
dang, Howard the Duck and Rachel's boss from Friends.
I really wish those two would go on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' as Corden played the Baker in the 2013 Into the Woods movie. Maybe they could have Emily Blunt who played the Baker's wife there as well.
Oh, THAT'S how you pronounce his last name! I mistakenly thought it was "Zee-YEN."
totally thought they were married for some reason idk why
Hè does the voice howard the duck
It's crazy all I hear is the voice of Howard the Duck
Dammit! Now all I hear is Howard the Duck
wait are they married?
By the grace of Gabe No. Joanna is married to Chris Sarandon.
i wish that would be adorable
AAHWHWHWHWHWHW
They sound exactly the same. What the heck.
I do love this music a lot
Omg so perfect
