I'm 70 years young and I live in the east end of Harrisburg, PA (half way to Hershey, PA). When I was a kid I can remember the Pennsylvania RR and the Reading RR running their trains through Harrisburg on their mainlines with steam locomotives. I still live in Harrisburg and every once in awhile the Nickle Plate runs through town and I can hear the distinct whistles, bells and thump, thump of the steam in action. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank You for posting this video. I grew up near Lewistown. Though I didn’t grow up in the age of steam, my father did. He was raised Amish and the one day they were excused to do whatever they wanted was Accession Day. He and his friends would hike over Jack’s Mountain and Big Ridge to go to Mattawna to watch the trains go by. My father used to take us there too. It was one of my fondest memories. There was a large concrete bumper we used to sit on. Though the bumper was removed in the 1980’s, I still go there every time I visit home.
WONDERFUL video!.. Even makes non-enthusiasts change their minds about the train thing.. Hubby loves trains and I go with the flow. I had a great time aboard the May 25th excursion. The scenery was ABSOLUTELY BREATH-TAKING. Thanks to all who have the passion and the vision to keep these beautiful machines running.!
I for one like the Heritage Fleet diesels. Lest we forget, it was the Mighty Pennsylvania Railroad whose mainline the train travels. And props for Conrail, that rose like a Pheonix from the very ashes of the PRR, and once again showed how to run a profitable railroad. The presence of the PRR and CR Heritage Units is well deserved and reminds us that it is truly Norfolk Southern we have to thank this magnificent sight.
I love this 765 whistle, so nostalgic ever since watching her at 5 years old on yt, so yeah and this is a whistle that sends chills down my spine it’s awsome her older whistle!
this beautiful beast is thundering back and forth thru my town all weekend! Im in Goshen IN, May 3, I Iive 5 houses from the track!! I jump up and down like a school girl when I hear her!! and Im old enough to be your grandma!!!
great awesome video and catches of nap 765 on this horseshoe curves special nice whistle action too nice catch to with an NS meeting up with a Leslie RS3L as well and a horn and whstle battle
Very nice video Chad!! You did a SPECTACULAR job documenting this run for those like me who who were unable to get out there for it. Nice clip at the end with that ballast train running alongside the excursion, RS5T for the win!

After watching several of your videos and as a photographer, your videos are stunning! Great composition, many beautiful different angles, great lighting. I can't imagine anyone doing better. I wish I were living in USA and chase trains to video them like you do.
Stunning video! I was on the train on Sunday, and the disappointing part of being on the train was that you didn't get to see (or hear) much of the 765 except when we went around curves. The train was so long, there were hardly any opportunities to go up and look at the 765. Your video helps with that!
Very nice photography. I was amazed to see the roadbed in such a clean condition. I wish some of the Western tracks were as nice.as viewed on this video. I will add this link to my collection of great steam trains. Thank for sharing it with us rail fans all over the country.
Gorgeous footage of this Berkshire! I saw her when she came into Harrisburg on 8-19-2012... this sure brings back the excitement of that day, plus a lot more with all the footage you filmed! Beautiful angle shots and steady camerawork make this a monumentous tribute to the 'lady!' I wish my Dad could have lived long enough to see her! He worked at the Harrisburg station for over 35 years... saw a lot of these beauties! This would have been a dream come true for him!
5:56, 6:30 He's pulling up hill or coming into station. Clanking con rod.:27 was spectacular - The sound of the engine - beautiful. You see the old girl working. That is one of your best shots. Oh, what a sound. 9:15 - rounding the bend. 10:18 you were a little late. 10:36 - what a shot. Why didn't you follow the engine.. 10:12 - Another great shotmade more impressive by following the engine. 12:15 it sort of sneaks into view but you can't hear it. Why 2 diesel loco's. 13:18 - highballing on the main line - and you blew the shot - follow the locomotive. 14:17 Incredible. 15:34 The sound of it. just a whisp of steam. then it begins to work again as it loses momentum and starts to work against pressure. - AND - You blew it. - FOLLOW THE LOCOMOTIVE!!!! 18:10 magnificent shot Stay in Close !!! GET INOh good grief - look at that thing breathe. The shot of the century. Yes, the bridge is beautiful but it is not going anywhere. That kid got the thrill of a lifetime
Wow, simply stunning video!!! One of the best of 765 i've ever seen. Very very nice work. I just wish her whistle was a little more high pitched like it was back in the late 80's-early 90's. Koasterkidd thank you for making such an awesome video!!
Great video nice to have all the names of the towns or interlockings included before each runby.. the font is bit large... but hey great stuff! Thank you!
Can you imagine if they had welded rail 100 years ago how much better those steam engines would have run? This one just sailed on those rails nice and smooth. She cruised really nice.
Probably both. Most steam excursions have a diesel right behind them to correctly operate track-side safety equipment and provide brake air for the train. The diesel is simply idling along to operate its vital equipment. If the route involves a hill though the diesel will help the steamer up it, simply because steam engines tend to not do well on steep hills.
I was on that excursion behind 765 for the Horseshoe Curve in May 2013 which is one of the best times I had in my life!

If I want Diesel, I'll take Amtrak
Though it is baffling they didn't use the Nickel Plate unit.

It's like Christmas and Easter on the same day. Ecstasy in picture & sound. Thanks for that. Fred
Brilliant video of the NKP 765! 🚂 👍
Excellent video. My 3 year old watched the whole thing, making chugging sounds and whistle blows the whole time! I enjoyed it also!

Hello
I think this is one of your best videos! I just re-watched this again!
Absolutely Gorgeous! Love the colourful mix of passenger cars and wailing whistle.
great awesome video and catches of nap 765 on this horseshoe curves special
nice whistle action too
nice catch to with an NS meeting up with a Leslie RS3L as well and a horn and whstle battle
Awesome scenes mate! Really captures the unique romance of American railroading!
Very nice video Chad!! You did a SPECTACULAR job documenting this run for those like me who who were unable to get out there for it. Nice clip at the end with that ballast train running alongside the excursion, RS5T for the win!
The Queen of the West-End; the best there is.
They can run her hard, and they do.
Thank you Rich Melvin!
I abosolutely enjoyed this excursion, and you captured it perfectly.. Well done sir!

Awesome! 765 and 2 heritage units! Nothing can be even cooler!
How about N&W 611 with two Heritage Units?
Just as cool!
Max Medaglia 611 with two diesels is not cool no helper diesels
Good point, Al. The 611 was built for mountainous territory, so she should do fine on her own.
MetraMP36414 A brace of 1st gen EMD's would be nicer. However, the diesels are there for the Railroads benefit, not the excursions.
I had a fantastic time riding behind her on the Dover Harbor that I was in yesterday! It was awesome!
Great job! Thanks for posting!
In all my years I've never seen anything so awesome!!
Nickel Plate 2-8-4 S-2 Berkshire 765 was performed flawlessly on the excursions 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
super nice and relaxing, I use to set this in continuous play while working! ;) THS!!
Chad the opening shot is just epic.
So amazing-thank you for sharing!
Yea.....just watched it again. Still freaking amazing

I hate to say it but you probably have the best video of 765 on the PITL then anyone else this year. Great editing.
Great video! pretty cool that they went with the Pennsy theme and put NS 8102 and NS 8098 on the train.
Probably the best video of the 765 online! Fantastic job!
Spotless, the entire train....
Stunning video! I was on the train on Sunday, and the disappointing part of being on the train was that you didn't get to see (or hear) much of the 765 except when we went around curves. Hell yes.(I do mean it about bringing steam back. For if I ever own a railroad the main motive power will be steam.)
That sounds like a bankruptcy waiting to happen
your gonna make your maintennace staff and plumbers have PTSD

Great shots, Norfolk Southern & FWHS sure put on a show. Steam is back baby!
Not saying the video wasn't good, it was great!!!!! But I love toward the end when they go over the viaduct. That was awesome.
Thanks, Matt!!!

I Love The NKP 765 .
Outstanding shot at 13:58 of the sunlight shining off of the rivets on the coal tender!
One of these days I will bring steam back and it will be awesome.
Great Video Chad! A 5 star video!
I grew up watching steam engines run the DT&I north and south through Ohio. I sure miss the seeing them and hearing them.
Awesome video!
Wow, best video of 765 I've seen!
Totally awesome shooting and editing. Thank you so much!

Very nice!
Epic win of a video man!
Very fun to watch lol😮😮😮😂❤❤❤
If I'm right 765 is the first steam locomotive to return to horseshoe curve in well over 30 years since k4 1361 stopped running
Wow, simply stunning video!!! One of the best of 765 i've ever seen. Very very nice work. I just wish her whistle was a little more high pitched like it was back in the late 80's-early 90's. Koasterkidd thank you for making such an awesome video!!
Awsome video
Dude. Freakin masterpiece
I love train videos
Bellezas D. .locomotoras Esta Se. Ase Muy Especial Hermosa la Fuerza Q. Arrastra tan bonita.
Me encantan estas enormes "orugas"
Great video nice to have all the names of the towns or interlockings included before each runby.. the font is bit large... but hey great stuff! Thank you!

Now all we need is to persuade Norfolk Southern to get 611 and 765 to doublehead an Excursion train over horseshoe curve without the Diesels period
The wheelslip would be insane
Great video, Chad!
Very Nice video i only filmed on the 25 as well but they were really nice trips. and must i say you lucky S.O.B getting on Lewistown Platform!!!! lol
Amazing Video Chad!!!
outstanding
i was there for that, i saw our car in the parking lot at 8:30, lol

Great video!!! There ought to be more steam on the HSC
