  • I assembled an 8'x12' Palram Canopia Balance Greenhouse from Costco this year. A couple of months ago I reviewed it. Interest in that video has been high enough that I thought it might be helpful if I shared how things are going now that I've been using it for a couple of months. Watch this video to see how a couple of months of use have impacted my opinion of this greenhouse.

Any recommendations for wind, other than foundation?

The greenhouse is rated for pretty high winds, but I can't remember just how high. Somewhere between 55mph and 75mph, which isn't as high as most commercial greenhouses.
In addition to the foundation, you can site your greenhouse in a sheltered location. Mine has the house to the north, a fence to the west, and trees to the east. We rarely get winds out of the south. So that helps a lot.
There are also tie down kits that you can buy to provide additional wind protection. They're usually a combination of straps and anchors.

how did you anchor the greenhouse to the ground? Thanks

I didn't have a lot of budget for a foundation, so I made sure the site was very level and I squared and screwed some ground contact-rated 4x4s together. Then I drilled appropriately sized holes through them and pounded 4' rebar stakes through them deep into my clay soil. The steel base of the frame is screwed to the 4x4s which allowed me to have a nice, square frame for the greenhouse. Hopefully, the rebar stakes will provide additional anchoring in high winds. I'm happy to say that the rebar stakes' contribution hasn't been tested, yet. ;)
It's possible to assemble these without a foundation, but Palram doesn't recommend it and I immediately understood why as I assembled my greenhouse.
You have other options if you don't like the 4x4 idea: a concrete footer would be even more stable. In some cities, structures with permanent foundations require permits, though, and that can add time and expense to your project.

Wondering where you live as far as weather goes.

I'm in Logan, UT. USDA Zone 6. My growing season (last frost to first frost) is about 157 days if I remember correctly.
