Flow Switch

They are used in sprinkler system to transmit electrical information due to the flow, when a sprinkler head gets activated. Delay units are available to prevent false alarms. Delays up to 90 seconds are possible.

Hi DV, thanks for the informative video, i hav a question, if u happen to install the flowswitch in a reverse position, will it still work? Or can a flowswitch work in a reverse flow?

Hello Alfie, Flow Switch will not work in reverse position. Installation should be made according to the flow direction.

@@DuyarVana1965 hi DV. Thanks. But just wondering, is there a built in check valve in it? where it restricts a reverse flow?
Reason why i asked is because consultants here are not consistent, some of their detailed drawing shows additional check valve while others does not.

@@alfiegm2137 Hello again, Thanks for your response. There is no check valve in flow switch. There is no mechanism in the flow switch of any brand to prevent reverse flow. When the flow switch is connected only according to the flow direction, when there is a water flow in the system it detects and generates a signal.

@@DuyarVana1965 thanks DV. That makes sense, since activation of one floor flowswitch in a series of typical floors flow switches could mean multiple flow detections of floors, even though not all floors has fire, if it detects reverse flow.

what if the flow switch and zone control valve are of different brands. will that be a problem?

Each flow switch cover specific area (like one floor of the building).
So it tells you the alarm is in the area covered by this flow switch, not the exact location.
