Where’s Jakeem Grant, Devante, Parker, and Mike Gesicki at now…… he had one of the worst offensive lines that season too. The thing that really gets me is when people talk about injuries. It’s crazy because Joe Burrow actually has missed more games than him at this point in their careers. Also, no one talks about the Chiefs Dolphins playoff game and how we were missing six starters, and four of them were on defense, as if it has no impact on the game at all. Yea, but on the other hand, just because one team does something stupid doesn't mean everyone else is obligated to follow suit. If my neighbor pays $100 million for a Toyota, that doesn't mean I'm suddenly placing a higher market value on Toyotas.
Daniel joins gets cut after this year. His deal has a soft way out. Jalen Hurts could be the only veteran QB in the NFC East in 26. Then the Eagles will be at a supreme disadvantage with Jalen hitting higher and higher cap hits. The forerunner of this was how Brady handled contract negotiations with the Patriots. His thinking led to the all the Super Bowl rings, becoming the GOAT, and building over a half billion $ net worth. Brock Purdy just might take this approach in his contact negotiations next year. He is well grounded and thinks long term. If I’m right, and if Purdy stays healthy, the Niners will be very good for the next 10-15 years.
Average fans don’t understand pre snap reads and the processing component of the game. It’s the same reason people keep thinking Lamar is an MVP, and Purdy and Tua are mid. People said all the same stuff about Brady through his first five years. “Game manager on an amazing team”, etc. Any QB who can have a 2:1 TD:INT with over 4500 yards is a stud. The owners are looking into making the QB's contract seperate from the salary cap. If they are heading towards 60 mil per season then that would be the smart move
i dont think there should be a seperate salary cap. a qb can either choose to take more money and either risk being let go by their team or end up with no supporting cast and risk catastrophic injuries or take less, have more supporting cast, more superbowl wins, more endorsements. the nfl is already protecting qbs. what more do they want? i feel the salary cap is what keep the nfl competitive. if peyton manning wanted 100m you either pay him and let him play with no support, or let him go. but with no qb salary cap u can keep your star qb with no reprocussions.
So the NFL will reward teams that made crappy QB deals and punish teams that did not. Its gonna be a hard no for many owners. Those type of rule changes require a super majority vote.
Source? Owners like keeping overall costs down and I feel that would do the opposite
Love your video, Mike, and keep up the great work you are awesome bro
No drama in Miami folks. Tua will be in Miami, if the franchise wants him to be there, for at least the next year on the rookie contract and possibly the next 3 with a franchise tag. No real pressure to get the deal done.
As a huge dolphins fan I’m annoyed they didn’t do it as the season ended with felt like this was gonna be a problem, I wanted him to be paid first so everyone else can over pay everyone else
Don't think they needed to do it when the season ended, although they probably could have gotten a better deal. However, they should have done it before all the other QBs started signing. Just bad business strategy!

Dolphins fan here;
I really like Tua, and I believe he’s an excellent quarterback that can still grow. If I’m Miami, given everything, I would sign him to a longer contract. 6-7 years would put Tua in at 12 years in the league. $400-420m over that timeframe with the first 3 years being fully guaranteed in the event of an injury. After 3, it’s just becomes guaranteed money for a year if he’s injured.
First 3 years fully guaranteed? Idk about that. 1 or 2 at the most.
Tua's biggest issue is that we haven't had an OLine crack the top HALF much less Top Ten of the league in TWENTY YEARS. Tua took ju-jitsu classes so he could learn "how to fall", he was THAT SHOOK. Ryan Tannehill was the most sacked QB in the league TWO YEARS IN A ROW while he was here, we crippled him both developmentally and physically. He then moved to Tennesee and brought them to the Conference Finals coming in ~one-third through the season.
OLine>QB>Defense... THEN you can focus on the rest of your team!
Mikerophone NFL, will you be doing predictions for each division? If so some follow-ups when the playoffs come around to see how your predictions played out?
A QBs success has a lot to do with who's around him. That being said, picture Tua on the Panthers, pay him accordingly.
At this point only 1 qb is worth that money and that qb takes discounts and restructures all the time.
Thank goodness they didn’t invest in Watson
The dolphins have a bottom 5 oline, and McDaniel schemes the offense to get the ball out quickly to hide the bad oline play. Tua has one of the fastest releases in the NFL, and is perfect for this system. No chance they move on
Why do NFL teams seem to feel obligated to pay their quarterback the most in the NFL every extension?
These kinds of problems are exactly why NFL teams should develop players in developmental leagues. They could just pay the QB salary of a guy in the UFL, have him develop so he's ready for the NFL. It's actually cheaper in the long run.
The NFL desperately needs a legitimate developmental league. It’s about to really find that out with the shakeout of college football. With that in mind I would go so far as to say that it should be concurrent league so that the NFL can use it the same way that the NBA does the G-League and the NHL does the AHL.
Players can take only so many hits. You'll wear out the players in a developmental league. If they're not good enough, they're not good enough. College football is the developmental league. Hits aren't as hard compared to the pros.
They might need to do to Tua what the Pats did to Brady for years. Talk him into taking less money to make the team better.
4:38 Why would you waste time speculating on this? Tua IS in Mike's system and unless Mike doesn't like Tua, Miami should pay him.

Miami was never ready to trade multiple picks and Tua for Watson. That was nonsense spread by Flores, and he never had the keys. Does Trevor lawance deserve to be payed more than those guys… ( no)
This qb market is crazy
It’s out of control nobody’s worth that type of money
There is one problem with Miami they don’t have mahomes chief are not letting up
Based on performance, NO player in the NFL should make more money than Patrick Mahomes. The notion that EVERY time a QB gets a contract it needs to reset the market is stupid and unsustainable. Here's the problem. If your QB isn't as good as Mahomes but makes more than him, you are going to be at a financial disadvantage to the NFL's current dynasty. The way to overcome that is to draft really well, but the problem there is the Chiefs draft really well, so you'll have to outdraft the Chiefs every year, which is possible, but since the Chiefs are really good at it, the margin for error is slim. The problem is, you have to do that just to close the gap from overpaying your QB. The absurdity of QB contracts right now makes having a QB on a rookie QB is a cheat code because you can stack the roster when your QB is cheap which makes drafting a QB instead of overpaying a veteran an attractive option, especially if you haven't been able to beat the Chiefs with a QB who has been on his rookie contract. Mahomes is good enough to overcome losing players like Tyreek Hill and win back to back Superbowls without him. I have doubts that Tua could thrive the same way without Hill and/or Waddle.
As a life long Dolphins fan he isn’t worth that money. He’s not a Super Bowl contending Quarterback he’s average at best. It’s time to look for a replacement.
Well hes definitely is at least better or as good as Trevor Lawrence

Mike McDaniel is a great coach tho
This is what’s more insane to me. The NFL has basically decided we are not gonna pay running backs a lot of money. The absolute best running back in the league, Christian McCaffrey gets $16 million of season. Justin Jefferson just signed for $35 million a season And think about it even Jalen waddle got 25 million a season on his extension. Christian McCaffrey touches the ball more than any of those guys, his combined rushing and receiving yards are more than any of those guys and he has way more touchdowns than any of those guys and you have 16 million versus 25+ million for a call in some cases, number two receiver
I think due to the speed of the team and the success Tua had in that system he is able to process the game quickly like that of Brock Purdy. I feel like if their roles were to switch they would both have success in their new systems
I agree that the line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere and these qb’s can’t just keep demanding more money. The question I have is why Tua gets so much blame for the playoff loss to KC when 6 defensive starters were out against the Chiefs? It’s a team sport right?🤔 I think that I would use the franchise tag on him.
I'm a giants fan so I'm completely biased with this question. Is DJ overpaid. Now a mid-level salary with an out after this season. The cowboys might be giving Dak 65 if they keep sitting on their hands
It's obvious that Tua did benefit from Mike McDaniel's offense system and has 2 elite receivers. Not to mention Dolphins had one of best running game as well. Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or even Josh Allen would put up 6k passing yards 50 tds if they play for McDaniel that has 2 elite receivers and strong running game.

This is how the NFL ensures that few dynasties like '70s Steelers or pre-Jerry Cowboys will occur. A hard salary cap& QB using a ridiculous % of cap means it's the rookie deal true franchise QBs with a talented supporting team win SBs. Occasionally, a GOAT QB comes along with a genius HC come along - Montana-Walsh, Brady-Bill & prob Mahomes-Reid. Yes, IMO Bill B was equally important in Pats run as Brady; Pats D kept or brought Pats back in game for Brady to finish. TBH I wish sports would go back to the old days and not tell you player contracts. judge the player on his merits not his contract. Also in general most people are selfish when they say they are a team player. I get it , you have to get yours when you can but its also that attitude that makes it hard for teams to keep good players and build a team. Cant pay everyone.
QB salaries are far out of control. Base their salary on a percentage of the salary cap. Currently if you are the starter long enough you will get top money. Whether you deserve it or not. Instead base salary increases on performance. So much for wins and losses during the season. How deep in the playoffs, Super Bowl win or loss etc. if this keeps up the other players on the teams are going to strike again. The majority of the pie is three or four studs and whatever left over for the others.
Honestly i hope hes okay. He should open up a gofundme
Making the New York Jets sound like a threat to insult Tua is insane work. As a Jets fan... I'd rather have Tua than a QB that couldn't win with an all star team in GB.
Things going look great if he balls out this year no way around it
The same case could be made for Brock or Dak, Brock can run a lil but hes not as clutch or as accurate as Tua, Dak is more mobile than Tua but he's not as good under pressure or against good teams. All three of them are basically Jared Goffs in different variations. I'd put any of them at between 45 - 50 million if I'm being honest, and Tua's concussions worry me alot I'd probably give him a highish short contract 3 years lots of guaranteed money with a 4th year option I'd want the lowest cap hit I can possibly get, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up as a Antonio Brown/Junior Seau situation.
NE could be disruptive this year-the offense is definitely in rebuilding mode, but Jacoby Brissett can win some games, and the defense is in great shape with the return of Gonzales and Judon. Tua could have real problems with that defense especially when it gets cold.
It can't just be next up gets paid most, it's simply not sustainable.
So many of the great players in the league over the years were more focused on winning and would take less money for the good of the team.
Why do quarterbacks take so much money knowing its going to hurt the team surrounding them?
If Goff is making 53M a year, Tua should make around that much. The argument of "Tua's only that good because of the team around him" is so dumb because you can say that about guys like Burrow, who had Higgins/Chase/Boyd/Mixon, as well as Goff, who has a top 3 O-Line, Amon-Ra, and LaPorta. We also saw Goff's previous head coach Sean McVay give up an extra 1st round pick TO GET RID OF HIM. No matter how bad people think Tua may be, it's never gotten to a point where his coach thinks that lowly of him where they'd have to give an extra 1st rounder to dump him.
It seems people are penalizing Tua and using the "He's only good because of the team around him" narrative because they saw him look bad when he was playing behind a bottom 3 OL and throwing to Devante Parker, Jakeem Grant, and Albert Wilson. I'm sure if guys like Goff, Lawrence, or Burrow were in that situation, they would also look mid.
Personally, prior to free agency I was thinking Tua should be paid around 45M a year, but I also thought he'd deserve that amount of money because Lawrence and Goff would be paid around there. But since Goff is making 53M, market value would be that Tua gets paid around the same. If my Dolphins decide they don't want to make the same mistake the Lions did though, I'd understand.
If you think of most current QBs with Brady being a big exception since he never had amazing OL or weapons, they are all unfairly over or under hyped by supporting cast.
@@AlexxTehGreat For sure. I just don't know why people hype up the talent of guys like Burrow for playing with stacked weapons, but then say Tua is just a product of his weapons. How come Burrow isn't regarded as a product of his weapons?
Tua is good when he's not bad. He's too inconsistent. Last season I saw him throw some passes which made no sense. I found myself asking "who was that supposed to be to?" I wonder if his concussion issues are still hindering his performance. I had really high hopes at first when he signed with the Phins but now I'm not so sure.
Thinking QB'S salaries are out of control, which they are and that the owners are going to put a max on QB salary. It's obscene how much they make now when teams need to address other positions. Greed
