Aprendi uma finalização bem parecida recentemente pq achei muito boa
Não foi estrangulamento com lapela não. Ele apenas pegou a gola esquerda do adversário com a mão direita e passou a perna por cima da cabeça. Apliquei esse estrangulamento hoje.

So has he got a thumb up collar grip on his near side lapel, wrist pressed into carotid, then steps over and triangles his leg behind opponent's head? Where's the pressure on the far side carotid? The leg seems to have too much of a gap to apply it? Or is it because his head gets twisted there is some neck crank/pressure on trachea?
I think there's some neck pressure for sure, but with a lapel choke you don't usually attack both sides of the neck. All you need is one side. A bow and arrow choke for example only puts pressure on one side of the neck. I usually tap from the gi hurting my neck, not because I am going unconscious.

In JUDO only one from the judo school could take me down. I'm not saying it can't be done it's just that it's funny that you bjj guys think it's the be all and all. I encourage everyone to try other matial arts and see what you can do with your stuff. And if you are up to it try it in real life. (but try to stay safe) Nothing is more dangerous than someone overestemating himself

+paul0421 Every choke can be considered a basic white belt choke. Being able to apply the choke against a high level Jiu Jitsu fighter, is something the white belt is unable to achieve.
I don't think it's cool to choke a guy using your own lapel... It's simply not real in self defense, and it's barely related with position game. It is more like using a weapon!
+Leonardo Favaretto if its in the winter and you wear a coat, then yea, self defense, say you get in a scuffle, end up grappling a dude, and your aware that you could use your coat to choke him out...style points for the finish,
I agree with you john. I think a lot of gi techniques stand for self defense. I just think that snap the lapel around the neck is a bit too much use of the gi.
haha, yea man, I think the lapel stuff, the sitting on the butt, man that's not the fight, but because the gi is legal to use they are really pushing it to the limit and sometimes sport jiu jitsu borderlines sport and self defense, but I can say its fun to train all of it, I sometimes like yourself think its something just for sport jiu jitsu, but who knows, maybe you will be fighting at a kumite and they guy wears a gi....lol jk

Lapel choke is a basic white choke and thats exactly what that was. My instructor (Ralph Gracie) taught me this move when I was a white belt.
