    To me I agree with you. I think the power poles are better. But! It depends on the person and where they fish the most. I live in North Eastern Tennessee and one of the lakes I fish is a very deep lake. Most places I fish on the lake power poles would not work because it's just so dang deep. Every person and their own places they fish will be different. Spot lock to me is a no brained. Keep up the good work. Good luck and tight lines. Semper Fi from an old Marine

    Brian, i have the new Ghost trolling motor and love it. It says it will keep you within 3 feet of your spot and from what I can tell it does even better than that. I fish a lot with a partner and power poles stick up so high above the cowling that the guy in the back of the boat of the boat is severely handicapped. That's the primary reason I haven't bought poles!

    • @chasecole2198
      @chasecole2198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian love ya man, but, you are wrong about Anchor lock on the Ghost will keep the boat with in 24" of location. I respect your opinion and needs. them poles are only good in depths as long as the poles.

    If you are a bass fisherman fishing mostly shallow areas the power poles would probably be better but if you are a crappie fisherman then other than during the spawn you are going the be fishing in deeper water than the power poles will go most of the year so spot lock would be the best for crappie fishermen.

    I think PP’s/shallow water anchors also allow you to position the boat in water direction/casting angle you want. Trolling motor spot lock essentially locks the front of your boat and the rear swings down wind or down current.

      If your buying a bass boat… chances are that you have the money for a 3 or 4K set of powerpoles and 3k on a trolling motor. Besides if you have payment plans when you buy it, you can include those from the factory and then you don’t have to spend the money on that right away, it’s an over time kinda thing

    I'm in MI and fish bigger lakes so having a GPS TM is more beneficial, I can plot a track line for trolling walleye and use the spot lock if I'm bass fishing or jigging walleye. If need be, my old school anchor works just fine.

    If you live in a grassy area I recommend the poles. If you fish lakes that are deep or you do a lot of offshore fishing the spot lock is amazing. I would use the spot lock since I live in west Texas where it’s always windy and you fish deep more than half the year.

  • @bigrich7026

    For the family, where I am, it's spot lock..for me solo fishing it's spot lock..for big water it's spot lock..for working on your main or having a battery issue it's spot lock..bathroom break? Dropping fish in the cooler? Changing the (cough) DVD for my boy? Spot lock...if I'm bass fishing I'm usually traveling under trolling motor power and flipping in the front. If I need a minute I go into deeper water and spot lock and do my thing..I have had it lose gps signal in the mountain lakes and have looked up cause I hear waves crashing and oh crap there's the shore. So I have had it not do its job before.. for me it's so handy I wouldn't be without it. Honestly most of the time I couldn't drop power poles. I also have a kicker motor next to my main so it's already busy. I think I have an Amazing boat though..2 people and descent gear. Raise the outboards raise the trolling motor till cavitation and about 8" of water I can travel in. Or take it on the big lake and ride out some couple foot waves. Loaded with full gear and 4 people she is slow to plane but pulls all the prop it's got. It's no speed demon..where I am I usually can't even run it at speed anyway from the waves. I tack to fishing spots sometimes. It isn't the best handling boat but it's all about peace of mind. Weather and idiots I mean fellow boaters.
    Got any stories you want to share about almost moments or stuff you've seen you're learned from? Trailer incidents? Launching? Bet you've seen a lot!
    I fish on a big lake most the time..a pimple on a great lake..that's still pretty big..I take it real serious.
    On such a big lake...why does everyone have to come within 8 feet of you to see what your fishing on? ..I have to leave the lineup from the b.s. boatmanship and usually find as nice a fish as what the crowd is pulling. By myself..give everyone some room out there. Im just throwing this out to everyone on lakes big enough to just set up 50 feet from someone..
    Years ago my first whitefish...didnt have spot lock...in the time I unhook it and throw it in the cooler someone is in my spot..I look up there are boats on every each side of me...I want a water Cannon...like whale wars..
    Or a chrome rpk mounted to the front.

    Good video, It is always fun to fish and swim with the family. Haven't bought either one yet, hardly ever slow down long enough. I have seen the advantage at the ramp and when beaching the boat.

  • @jasonhoffmann7828
    @jasonhoffmann7828 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree that these are two different tools and that there is probably more advantage to the poles. But it isn't really fair to say that either option costs roughly the same. I don't know of anyone who is firing up their outboard to move 10 yards and then putting down their poles. You are going to spend money on a trolling motor. So the question is really which is better for about $1k, one Powerpole? Or upgrading from a Fortrex to an Ultrex?

    Question, video idea? The advantage of floro over mono when mid range cranking. I had a knock down drag out argument with a buddy. I use floro for cranking and he uses mono he swears that he looses fish on floro and never on mono, I told him if he used the correct rod he wouldn't but he still argued that mono is the way to go. I tried but he won't listen, he watches you like religion so I think he'll hear you. The reason I try to get him to change is because he consistently misses fish and won't get bit when they are in that mid range, reason is he has to use a bigger crank to get deeper and I'm using a smaller at the same depth and catching 5 to his 1. He's costing me money in these tournaments.

    • @howcroft22
      @howcroft22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mono is pretty much useless. The only time I use it is for c rig leaders or for people on my boat who don’t fish all the time. It is more abrasion resistant. But it has so much stretch and horrible sensitivity. Not to mention your lures will not reach the same depth they do with flourocarbon. And if you fish deep clear water for smallmouth, flouro is the only choice for everything except top water. I don’t even like using it with squarebills.

    Shallow water anchors before spot lock for me as well. And like Brian said not only will spot lock lose you a fish it will also potentially injure the fish.

  • @dbender3644
    @dbender3644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Depends what kind of fisherman you are. Are you primarily offshore (15ft or deeper) or a shallow fisherman? I'm more of an offshore bass bass guy and I don't have either on my current boat but I had both on my last boat. I can't tell you how many times a day I dream about having spot lock on my trolling motor again. I break off, need to re-tie and my boat is 100 yards away from blowin in the wind by the time I'm done. Not to mention 8' poles will barely hold you in 6' of water with 10+mph wind. So to use 8' power poles you need to be up super shallow just to use them. Spot lock dont care if you're in 3' of water or 30' of water to hold you close to your spot. Plus power poles constantly get in the way, in the garage, when they are down and you catch a fish, how many times have you had a bass run you to the back of the boat? Well now you got 2 poles for that bass to wrap you up in. For me, spot lock is 100% the first thing I'm getting when I get an extra 3k but like B.Lat says its all about knowing your own style of fishing. Great vid, great family man.

    I would say it would really depend on your style of fishing an the body of water you fish on most. Where I live in smith lake power poles are useless I’ve yet to see a set of power poles that reach 70’-100’. There’s very few places they will work here. Now most people gonna say their not going to be fishing 70-100’ deep but you can be less then a cast length from the bank and be in 50,60,70’ of water. I personally don’t have either because I fish deep and shallow water an like Brian said their both just a convince just like graphs. Guys have fished for years without power poles or spot lock blah blah blah it’s a convenient tool to have so get which ever beat suits your style of fishing.
