It's all consoles and PC and I'll gladly play these over the originals. Glad to see Capcom continuing this collection series. Hope to see the Capcom vs SNK games in the next collection they release.
I think the prices will decrease for those old games, the reason is that you can soon pick up the physical release on a modern system for the fraction of the price. There will still be collectors that pick up the original versions, but the prices will drop and stabilize since the games are now commercially more available. When you compare Metal Slug, that is a bit different because the Neo Geo console was extremely niche based back when it was released, so a very limited amount of numbers was made for both the CD and cartridge format. But the Capcom VS games are highly available on Playstation as well, so most of them are not niche games. Take the GBA versions of the Castlevania, those games dropped a lot after Limited Run produced the Switch version. I saw my local store had dropped almost half the price on those games, because of less demand. You still got scalpers on Ebay that tries to sell them high, but those needs to eventually follow the market prices like anyone else. My last point is convenience, most people got modern setups in their living room with flatscreens and soundbars. They want it simple, so the updated version of the old games cater to a much wider audience, rather than messing with old consoles and scalers.
You're both right. They won't lose all of their value. Because they're authentic. Literally from that time. But he is coping. And they will take some form of a hit.
@@TheActionHank it won’t drop the value of the Dreamcast version of MVC 2 as that is the definitive version and arcade perfect port of the in game graphics, sprites and frames, etc. it is superior to the PS2 and OG Xbox ports of the game as those 2 are off on frame counts when it comes to combos and hit boxes for the sprite models. The only other way to play it arcade perfect is to play it on an original MVC 2 arcade cabinet and we all know those aren’t feasible to get just play that game. I own the Dreamcast Versions of MVC and MVC 2 and still holds up well today and always one I play with friends when they visit.
I don't know if games will have the fun options to pay around with, I hope its not like the other capcom collection as a bare born of arcade with no test options :(
I have all the saturn ones and the dreamcast ones and couldn't be happier with this collection being released. I live in Japan though so i have the JP versions which are already reasonably priced. Come on capcom hurry up and make those Yank collectors of capcom vs snk, powerstone and JoJo cope already!
The collection will be out for all consoles as well as PC i believe. The news of this collection is one of the biggest checks off my wishlist and im super excited for it!!
Everybody keeps tripping about the prices of retro games being upset because there's a new re-release. As a gamer and a collector I'm glad this is happening. I want new people to be able to experience these titles I want new ways to be able to play these titles. I don't always want to hook up my Dreamcast or my Saturn
Yeah, I didn't think Capcom was interested in these old properties but that's awesome. Maybe we'll eventually see Alien Vs Predator if they can get the rights again. It's too bad Cadillacs & Dinosaurs will probably never be released in some way again but at least there is emulation.
Here’s why this is going to bring down the value of these originals. It’s now available on PS4 with rollback code. Most of the people who play these titles in tournaments use arcade sticks not controller sir. The value of these games were two part. One people thought the Marvel license was tied up (it was) so that drove the price up… see the Activision games mentioned in your other videos. And two the BEST way to play these were the Sega versions. So while these prices won’t tank. They will go down.
It definitely will be interesting to realize how much of genz and alpha are actually playing retro games via the Nintendo Switch. Sure these fighting games call us the millenials and Gen X who actually have memories going to the arcades and spending all our quarters every saturday afternoon trying to beat the kid next to us and talk about it non stop in school monday morning. that collection will be scooped up by a very high percent of 30 and 40 year olds that cherish those memories and those games which are so good and have stood the test of time! considering also they are difficult games to master, I don't know of gen z or alpha kids practicing long hours to pull off combos with Akuma to show off to their friends, that is us, the old guys and gals who lived through the 90s and felt these games first hand. you are right about that, this collection will not land on hands of the younger generation, as much as I'd love to think the younger kids like fighting games, they are too busy playing Fortnite and Minecraft and Among us. what I will say is if we want Capcom to revive this franchise of fighting games WE HAVE TO SHOW UP!! and I will! I'm going to buy multiple copies of this collection, for Steam for my Switch and for my PS4! I want MvC franchise to come back so make sure you vote with your wallets and show Capcom we are thankful and serious about them giving us these Gems back in a modern setting. Regarding the OG games on the legacy systems, PS2, Dreamcast, OG XBox, the versions for these consoles WILL BECOME OBSOLETE.... why is that? because this collection will come PACKED with so much extra stuff, JUST THE ONLINE PLAY ALONE will make everyone forget about the legacy versions. on those consoles you literally have to have your friend right next to you to fight head to head whereas now we are going to be able to fight online with your friends miles away and THAT is what I am most excited for, to be able to hop online and play matches with others that are at my level of fighting and make me improve my combos and fighting skills it's going to be a blast! I'm so looking forward to that! if what I say becomes true I will take advantage of the demand going down for the legacy versions and maybe I'll look for the DC version just to add it to my collection once the price of a copy isn't insanely expensive. IF WE WANT CAPCOM TO GIVE US MORE FIGHTING GAMES VOTE WITH YOUR WALLETS PEOPLE!!
Yea I think y2k has underestimated that the value of these specific titles are derived from the fighting game community (FGC). They compete by the thousands at tournaments and mvc2 specifically is huge. They were the ones driving the demand. And now this collection will reduce the demand. It’s not comparable to Metal slug and Megaman collections that are readily available on every platform. This is a release valve for the built up pressure of these games being ‘stuck’ on those systems. As I said in my comment. The prices won’t tank but they will go down.
@@warfidem3 I loved your analogy of the release valve, that's exactly right, man I hope so! and think about it, it's going to make tournaments SO MUCH EASIER to put together!! no more carrying around legacy consoles, just all bring your switches and the setup will be a piece of cake!
The prices WILL drop for the originals 🤷♂️, word of mouth about how great this series is has been known for a while which is gonna have newcomers and OGs buy this collection and no longer have to be gate kept by the expensive prices of the originals. Plus the new collection is more accessible.
I’d guess they’ll take a 10-20% hit then recover. These titles are sought after for their sets in their original systems. Players prefer certain controllers as well for these fighting games.
Who cares about the numbers and values about old copies. We get it man, you love the nostalgia factor but today is a huge celebration and a win for all!
You have to take this into account. You are comparing the Switch collections which are the arcade games with the console ports. They are two different things.
When you say original format, I hope you mean from the arcade boards, because all those games you have are ports, which are slightly different from the arcade boards. This new collection are emulation roms of the original arcade, so in a way they're better than ports from inferior consoles but still not perfect as the arcade boards since there might be some input lag. Either way, as long as you're having fun, there's no wrong way to play them, but if I had to put them in order from best to worst, it's Arcade > Emulation > Ports.
I love ports it’s great for the community but for me sometimes I prefer the original game on its original console with a CRT from its era, but some games I’ll play the port for convenience, plus it preserves the game for future generations
Like you said, we all knew it was going to come eventually. Mfers like Maximillian dude exaggerate the hell out or games like these and say “it’s impossible” when in reality all it takes is for 2 or more people in said company to say “hey let’s do it” and then it comes. According to VGC Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection will unfortunately be digital only on Switch, PS4 is digital and physical. I hope for Switch collectors they are wrong but we shall see soon enough.
Yea Capcom has done multiple fighting came collections physically already I would be surprised if that was the case. It’s likely Nintendo holding things up so probably too soon to get confirmation on physical but hey we shall see. I hope for physical on everything possible, especially switch!
totally agree with the Switch being the final resting place for most of those games from the 90s-2000s. with how much support the PS4, and surprisingly PS3, is still receiving this late into the current gen cycle, I can see the Switch holding relevance after the successor is announced just for publishers to make a few extra dollars by porting over their older games and somewhat preserving their legacy for the next 10-15 years. I don't think we'll see as many collections being released during the next console generation and hopefully it'll be forward thinking going forward.
I love emulation but id buy physical cartridge because everything is reconfigured and ready to go, give or take an update. Emuation means dealing with mapping, and skmetimes bugs and glitches can freeze a game. So thankful for this relase, cant wait
I still think that the original copies will sell because often they change the game when they release it to newer consoles. I heard that Paper Mario they changed the dialouge when it came to the Switch.

I am wondering a good source to read or listen to be updated on new release of video games. What is the release date for this collection? Where do you suggest to pick this up? Any advice? Thanks.
Iv seen some games tank while other games hold, just depends on the game and how different the new version is compared to the OG. Metroid prime is a remake that dropped the original from like 40-50 to like 20 bc there was no point to the OG when you can play the same game on switch, while other games changes get made thus making the original game valid still.
