Excellent presentation, I've learnt so much, I had same feeling of not being able to sell rabbits if I rear them but now I know it's possible to sell with these techniques

You're absolutely correct with being careful and smart in how to price rabbit meat!
I'm new to this rabbit farming thing, so I still lack knowledge and experience.
But the point you brought with how most farmers don't take advantage from rabbits byproducts is very true.
The price of the meat itself can be strategically low EXACTLY because we have the ability to sell almost everything else the animal provides us with.
Meat, fur, urine, droppings, education/lessons, rabbits as pets, cages, feed, toys, etc.
I'm looking into starting a rabbit farm very soon. My budget will allow for 50-100 doe units at the start, with my ultimate goal of reaching 2,700 units (set up in a way that there would be 3 groups, giving birth separately on a monthly basis) in one year.
I wish to be able to sell 100kg of meat on a daily basis.
I thank you dearly for the information you share with us, and I have a feeling we'll meet someday in fhe near future.

You are absolutely spot on!!! Keep educating us bro. The difference though with Nigeria is that rabbit meat is quite more expensive than chicken meat but the awareness of rabbit meat and its nutritional benefits is quite low. The demand of rabbit meat is gradually increasing.

    Let's hold fixed cost constant.
You can raise a broiler for 6 weeks and get 2.5kg live weight.
Relying on grass mostly to feed rabbit and gain 2 kg will take at least 6 months.
Your figure of 40 cedis for feed alone is understated. 1 kg of soya bean is 11 cedis, 1 kg of concerntrate is 10 cedis, I kg of fish meal is 9 cedis. How can you feed one rabbit with 40 cedis for a period of 5 months?

Thanks very much for your contribution! I love the fact that you stated prices per kilogram for all the "ingredients" need for your farm, we however don't go buying per kilo. Most farmers buy in bulk ie. 25 kg bags, so let's look at it from this angle... How much do you spend on feed per month? Slaughter weight at about 2.5 kg is achievable in 4 months. The longer you keep your meat rabbits on farm, the more costs incurred. I referenced grass as an advantage we have as rabbit farmers, this makes it easier not to focus entirely on concentrates.
A healthy combination of grass/hay and concentrates helps reduce cost.
Another point raised is with using other byproducts to subside cost, this and many more i believe 2ill help us sell way cheaper! Selling cheap is essential for creating the much needed market with regards to the Ghanaian consumer.
      Thank you 😊

In Ghana, most of the breeds are mixed... However new Zealand white is good for meat. Lion head is also good to keep as pets.
