Great Video, Justin. I've been following your vids and they have been very helpful. So, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and knowledge with us, whom are also on the path to higher learning. I'm starting WGU, July 1st. I'm very excited since competency based learning is my strong suit. I'm going to try and finish the Bachelors program within a year. Although I think I may be able to do it sooner. I'll find out shortly. I'm also right in the middle of finishing up my Real Estate testing here in Utah. So my nose has been buried in my laptop almost every day. I can start my orientation for WGU tomorrow. And then I should be ready to roll. Financing and everything for me is paid by my employer so that makes that part stress free. Oh, and the reason I am doing this is that I have been in contracting and electronics for 30+ years, I have owned several businesses and have many years of management. But once you get to a certain level in the corporate world, you can hit a wall fast when you start applying for Senior or Director level management jobs without a degree. Lots of our Senior managers have bachelors and a couple with Masters. But I'm going to transition right into the Masters program as soon as I'm done with the undergrad stuff. I refuse to let something hold me back and a degree is now effecting my ability to progress. So I'm going to fix it. I wanted to check and see if a Doctoral from South College would be advantageous in business or if it would become a mark of being over-qualified? I hope not. Because like you, I love the challenge of learning, and I'm a human sponge. So I'd love to do the doctoral course for my own personal reasons. I just don't want it to become something that would cause a level of intimidation with peers when I'm trying to advance. Anyway, keep sharing when you can. Take care!

Thank you for your kind words and for following my videos! I'm glad they have been helpful on your journey to higher learning. Best of luck with your upcoming program at WGU, and I admire your determination to overcome obstacles in your career. Keep up the great work, and I'll continue sharing insights and experiences. Regarding the doctoral program, it can certainly open doors to higher-level positions and personal growth in your career, although the importance placed on a doctoral degree can vary among employers. Take care!

Yes, my enrollment advisor said the dissertation is still a 5 chapter one like others.

Looks like it's 5 chapters, yup. It starts in 7800 (second last course) with framing a topic and putting together a relevant annotated bibliography, which leads into a lit review. Or at least that's what I've heard. My Program Mentor has begun discussing the dissertation with me. I'm glad she's encouraging me to start the ideation process early. Also, there are a few dissertation student examples on the "Files" section of the official FB group. You can check those out

Hey everyone! Before I kick off my doctorate in education at South College, I wanted to share a video discussing my work background briefly and why I decided to pursue a doctoral degree. I've always had an interest in lifelong learning, job security, and research, which stems from my experience completing three master's degrees that included research components. I'd love to hear your reasons for pursuing education too! Share them in the comments below-it's always interesting to learn what motivates others!
