I do Rocket Math with my first graders. My building requires it. What are your opinions of the program? I like the idea of kids practicing with each other, but I hate grading it Every. Single. Day.

Does your district not require a specific scope and sequence? Idk what I would do if my team didn’t collaborate on plans 🤯 , we share everything and even have a Drive where we share resources.
The district provides pacing guides. Not a scope and sequence for phonics and we don’t have a reading curriculum as a school. I am fine with that. I have my own books that correlate and I feel comfortable in the scope and sequence I have. The district also suggests first grade should start with narrative then informational then opinion writing which I don’t do because opinion is easiest to start with when you’re still working on sentences at the beginning of the year in first. We collaborate! We talk about things we are doing but everyone on the team this year has never worked with anyone on the team this year. We are doing our own thing in our rooms :) We definitely support each other. We just don’t “plan” together.
I know this is probably a tad ridiculous… But when you write on your iPad, can your hand touch it? When I use my pen, if my hand touches my iPad, it senses that. Therefore, I don’t write as well on my iPad and I like for things to look Nice.

Do you plan out what worksheets you're going to put in their center folders ahead of time too?
Yes! The kids have the same type of practice every week I just pull it from a different skill. It’s all in the phonics bundle from miss giraffe which should be in the description!

Girllllll yes !!! I DO NOT like envisions either! been doing it for 3 years and as a SPED k teacher I’m constantly having to modify problems and language to teach then the basic skills. Even on tests it’s so hard for my babies 🫠

Following my scope and sequence and making sure that I know when my kids are ready to move on - I don't have full written plans anymore. Just know the direction we are going in and what they need. Sorry it isn't specific!
