The best video’s out there - so much so I am going to rewatch some of the original AT clips and work my way forward. You have a way a capturing the solitude and emotion others haven’t mastered and the music is a compliment to the scenery; not a distraction. Thank you!
Great as always. Hopefully you get some smoke free miles now, although when I was there the smoke rolled in from Canada. Unfortunately there are also fires north of crater lake, basically up to the Canadian border. Good luck.
How funny, in looking at the trails you are now hiking, it is like a different world than CA. So relieved the fires are behind you now. So glad you have reunited with friends after a long drought. Bless you for sharing precious water with your fellow hiker. I have been meaning to ask, what is that little monitor on your right shoulder? GPS? Keep on going! I cannot wait to see what beauty awaits you. Thanks for sharing your beautiful videos, stay safe.
Craig will probably answer this when he sees it but, I think it's a Garmin InReach mini. Yes, a GPS tracking device. Could be the regular sized one, I'm not sure. You can check on Amazon to see them and the prices and capabilities. "Dixie" Homemade Wanderlust just put out a video that compares the two (I haven't watched it yet but will because I need one for my next hike).
Thanks Donna!! The beauty to come is indescribable - can’t wait to show it! Deborah was correct - that little red devise is an InReach, which is satellite SOS beacon and also can text and give weather (with a subscription). I hope all is well with you!
@@craig.m.spielberg sadly not this trip. I will be North East, near Venice for a film festival. My delayed birthday gift to myself. Was supposed to be there last year. So celebrating this year. Next year I plan to visit Castelaneta
Thats exactly the way I saw Crater Lake a few years back enshrouded in smoke. Disappointing but beautiful none the less. Hopefully all of the smoke is behind you know and you can enjoy the rest of Oregon and Washington State!
Thanks for sharing these Spielberg! You are such a good videographer (and storyteller like you shared about your dad!). What a great blessing to your subscribers! With the need to jump around a bit are you much further along? Just wondering and hoping you beat the snow! 🙂
Thanks Kevin - your memory amazes me! With being forced to jump around the fires I am ahead of plan. Originally I thought I would have to flip up to the boarder and start hiking south at some point to beat the snow, but that is no longer necessary
Like a pioneer finally reaching Oregon, gazing into the state, into the unknown yet forging on in search of lifes meaning. Meeting up with friendly familiar faces in Ashland, faces that have withstood the weather of time and still smile, like long lost friends the forest stands tall, majestic, fortified braced for fire, and yet the human spirit forges on like pioneers on the Westward trail. Moments of human contact, laughter, and breaking bread are and catching up with each other, moments in time to be cherished. Hiking amongst a sea of volanic rocks a trail is cut through. The way that life springs forth and beauty is born from the ashes is a testament to the awesome forces at work in nature. The fire scars and burned earth is a temporary condition similiar to the human condition and the seasons and changes that evolve and new ideas, new life springs forth and over time fire is erased and new beauty abounds. Although the atmosphere is choked with smoke and fire has ravaged and scorched the earth, making it abandoned by fire, an ecological abandonment has left a lonely hole and the absence of life contradicts the human social construct, hope is not lost. You are there to bear witness and breathe new life and beauty unto the earth. Your positive spirit fills the land with energy to grow new life. Breathe and speak positivity and it will come. Crater lake comes into view like the great smoky eye gazing into the world. Sublime and peaceful as if it was sleeping in smoky stagnation under a blanket waiting to awake. Like the Island of Innisfree. Weatherbeaten, windwhipped, gnarled trees of driftwood appearing like dragons of the netherworld rise up from the still landscape. The rewards keep coming and Mt. Thiesen comes into view! Deep blue azure skies soak through, cool clean water to wash away all iniquities and replenish your soul, renew your heart. Peace, solitude, and hope fills your well and the light of tranquility surrounds you. Sleep in the face of Mt Thiesen and dream, dream well.
So excited to see this - thanks AG! Like all of your comments, which are really poems, it enriches my memory of the place and the experience - many, many thanks. I hope all is well with you and that you have settled into your new home!
@@craig.m.spielberg thanks so much. Congratulations to you on your epic never ending journey. Things are settling in nicely here on the coast of Maine. I am going to finish watching and writing on your PCT journey. The filming is simply outstanding but the story is even better. For me the AT awaits. Do I sense a CDT journey? 😀🙋♂️👻
You may not feel the same because you are there and I've never seen it in person but that was the most disappointing view that I've seen in anyone's videos of Crater Lake. I've followed PCT hikers for (I think) 4 years including Kate Cloud "Feathers' and Mitch Lenington "Dutch" plus a couple of others later on. Both hiked the AT just before you did or maybe the same year ? Think Dutch and Skittles were in your class ? That lake is so blue and beautiful when the sky is clear. Daisy Kirby "Smiles" (CDT 2021) just announced that she was doing the PCT for the second time next year. I'll get to compare this year to next year's conditions. Too bad that it's turned out to be such a lousy year to hike, especially after last year's Covid restrictions. Will things ever get better ? P.S. Same conditions on the northern part of the CDT (Montana, northern Wyoming) due to wild fires. Everyone is complaining about the smoke and the fact that they can't breathe. Hope things get better real soon. Good Luck. P.P.S. Loved the flowers. Little bit of sunshine there.
I agree about Crater Lake - I remember both Dutch and Feathers’ filming of it and it was so much more vibrant. Even though I was disappointed with what I got, there was a haunting beauty to it and I’m glad I got to see it at all (the day before I got there, there was absolutely no view of anything I’m told). Sad to hear the CDT hikers are dealing with the fires and smoke too. I’m always thinking of you when I pass and film a new flower

That’s so nice to hear - thank you, Dianna! You made my day!
Another great production. Thanks for sharing all the beauty and the struggle of the PCT. I appreciate all the effort you put into your videos.
Beautiful footage of the lake. Another great video, thanks for posting. Stay peaceful.
Wow, hate that you have to breath all the smoke. Looking forward to seeing you out of the burn zone!
Beautiful, as always!
Another amazing video Craig! You have a gift for showing the peace and tranquillity, thank you 😊
Oh the high desert. Beautiful but dry and downright inhospitable at times. Glad the rim trail was open for you!
Beautiful! Happy hiking!

So far the fires up north have are not affecting us - I pray that it stays that way!
Spielberg always has the camera shots that nobody else has.
Thanks for noticing Perry!
That Crater Lake footage was just awesome.
Thanks dude, v enjoyable.
Sorry I'm late. Been in the Smokies for a few days. 👍👍👍
