We expected a full day on the drive - 2 hours and we were twiddling our thumbs, took the roller back after lunch (could not find anything else to flatten)
Hello Ian & Julie. When I was sourcing stone for my french drain project I went to the local supply and was quoted $2750 for a 10 ton load delivered. One of my clients from the sign shop has a trucking company so I approached him and he went to the quarries, loaded and delivered the stone for $500. You have to keep shopping around to save the $$$. Cheers Dave.
Ironically, that evening a 17ton truck dumped a load of washed gravel on the drive next to us...... for a neighbours septic tank - they were lucky it was still there in the morning 🤣
What a difference that gravel makes!! You definitely made that roller look easy anytime I have run them it feels like it just drags me around or I end up stuck!! Great job you guys keep up the amazing work.
Happy wife, Happy life most women like to side track from a project you've already had planned for that day, the driveway looks great i bet once you get another load for the rest of the driveway everything will come together and look good, Work On. Larry
Do you guys have a pressure washer? I know you have the auger attachment for the mini excavator, but for small holes like plantings, a pressure washer can really dig out a small hole quite fast. It digs around stones, so you can often leave the stones in place (depending on why you're digging). You'll have to scoop out the mud & water, but it does make quick work of digging lots of small holes.
haha, I can just imagine walking around the corner and Julie is covered he'd to toe in sprayed up mud. We do have one but the water pump pressure is not great to power it. But I am going to have to get her to try that 😀
Over here in Northern Ireland the cheaper way to get gravel is to find a farmer with a dumper trailer or a small digger contractor that has a tractor and dumper. Dumper trailers are 12 to 16 ton . Where I live here we are surrounded with quarries doing sand and gravel so it cheap to be honest for doing what u did with the roller we just track the digger back and forward to flat in it a bit then gravel over the top tract it again. And when it rains the rain beats it in hard. Ur digger is on the small side u really need a three ton machine. Put a wee diversion plate between u and the fan on the mini loafer
We were going to ask the farmers in the village but they are busy at the moment (and getting a bit old, one is 92 and still ploughing the back fields). We are limited to the little digger as we can only transport a tonne - so hoping we did the best we could with the delivery and the roller.
Well done again you two, a bit of advice to save your backs, when you drop the bucket full of stone have bucket vertical and as you reverse away pull the stone with you to level it as you back up, just a thought👍
Hi ian an julie ian you should have got the roller compactor first then got the tipper to revese to the bottom and as he was raising the bed up he would have driven forward while tipping and the stone would be spread out . At my 25 acres i have just laid 14000 tons of stone just similar to your stone and the lorries all reversed in and tipped while moving forward got a good level of stone laid then as my road was much much longer the tractor has a barr level to spread it out further to the sides i had my road done in less than a day . Now you know how much cheaper it is to get stone delivered in the big tipper truck just thinking of all the trips you and julie have done with the trailer and hire van a few tipper loads would have saved hours and hours of back and forth . If you need to put a further dressing on get the truck to start at the bottom then slowly work fhere way forward and remember the tipper driver can lower the bed quickly and drive to other area to spread the rest . Think smarter not make it harder .it looks really really nice now and easy access to cut the grass and when you build the house for getting supplies in plants look lovely as well when fully established will compliment the wall
It is hard to show but the truck would not have made the turn and the slope. We will do what you said on the longer drive but this area was little complicated. We hd to make sure it was the right level also, so it would have had to been a pretty decent driver 😀
Hello Ian & Julie Thank you for the info on the post rammer. I hope you do not mind but noticed that you are potting rock around the base of your hydrangeas they do not like compaction they need the roots to form freely we did this with ours and had lift them to recover and they need plenty of water .looking forward to this weeks instalment. Everything here seems to be going wrong cat to the vets dogs to the vets for annual jabs, sit on mower broken needs new parts on order from Holland flail cutter broken needs new bearing lost orange for over a month 5th time in less than a year. three point mower deck wheel seized have fixed this. Poly tunnel looking good and all plants coming on well just getting the watering system sorted 5 rows of potatoes in they say the price of spuds and onions will be high next season.
Every time you try and do anything there is always something else to fix first 🤣 We need to get our potatoes in - ext video, Julie is clearing the weed in readiness 😬
Driveway looks pretty good & well done with the skid steer & the compactor. Something to think about, with your skid steer, I’d encourage you to watch some videos of skid steer & Bob cat operators “back blading” with the bucket to smooth it out after you dump it. A lot of that manual raking could have been avoided. In addition your excavator has a grader blade on it, it it too could have been employed to smooth it all out after the skid steer transported the gravel into place and dumped it. You still have a little way to go in terms of learning what your two machines can actually do, but not being hard on you, you are at least learning & improving with each task you complete. Now for goodness sakes stop being distracted and complete the garage please, it’s doing my head in. 😜😂😂😉👍🇦🇺
Love your videos! ❤. A question tho, is it possible if you could do at sort of "re-cap" video of everything you done? A sort of overview so both old and new viewers get's an overall status update 😊. With love from Sweden
We were just talking about that - we plan on doing this in the next month or so. IT is good for us too to see what we have actually done - Thanks for your support 👍🏻
I remember asking you about aggregate bulk deliveries, I'm so glad you've found a solution. With all the time you'll save on trips to the quarry you can make more videos 😉
hahaha, yes...it was a chore - after realising it was hard, I drove the van up the drive, tilted the trailer as high as it would go to flatten the ramp and then took a really fast run up. They loaded it with a forklift - I was about to call them to come and get it 🤣
You really work hard and the amount you achieved was really impressive. Enjoy a rest, then get on to the next job. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you - we are onto the next project already. Work season starts soon so we must finish up all the loose ends 😀
greetings
stay well as always !
Thank you ☺️
Another job well done. Love the plants 😉
Thank you - at least we can start the planting while we save up for the build 🤣
Well done guys 😊
Cheers Graeme 😀
Wow, what 13 tons bring, so nicely done you two!
👍💪✌
Cheers Rob👍🏻
Hello ian an julie good job its looling lovely now 👋👍👍
Cheers Liam 😀
You both work well as a team.
She will do I suppose 🤣
Very productive 2 days 😊
We expected a full day on the drive - 2 hours and we were twiddling our thumbs, took the roller back after lunch (could not find anything else to flatten)
Looks great
Cheers Richard 👍🏻

Driveway looks great, hopefully it lasts a very long time.
Still have to put the top finish surface on but that will be after construction of the house has finished.
It's -1° C here at the moment, snowing at 650 m altitude.
Our snow is melting now - frosts in the mornings but above 20 by lunchtime.
Well done, very neat and beautiful...
Thanks for that, really appreciate it 👍🏻

First 5 mins I was stuck....going too fast. 🤣
Good progress looking forward to next week.
Thanks David 👍🏻

True, I ask her if she is ready to go and work and look to see she is halfway cutting another hedge or something....she never stops.
It'll hold up just nice!
Cheers 😀

Absolutely BRILLIANT! I’m so happy you were able to find a bulk delivery of gravel! Looking amazing! Have an AWESOME week! Thank you!
If only we knew before (or told correctly) - we will do this each time now. We put have had 100 tonne from the quarry so far.

I tried a few times but to get it done quick I just kept dumping and moving on. Raking is not too bad but I know what you mean.
Good job guys!
Cheers Tony 👍🏻
keep up the good job and first
Thank you ☺️

Don't the smaller jobs do your heart good though 😍 They soon add up to even bigger changes. Great work
Did feel good starting and finishing a job all in one day.
You made running the compacter look a lot easier then I remember it being. I do like the color on the plants.
Once I slowed it all down it was better - I was like a bucking bronco to begin with 🤣
Hard Yaaka! Great job 👏 well done, greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Cheers Morgan 👍🏻

Thanks Ian - I know what you mean on the Skid Steer - Digger blade is useless, it does not float so hand controls are awkward. Always learning though

They told us porkies....I am glad I questioned it ......after 18 months. Chuffed we did though.
Great progress guys! 👍😃
Thanks Simon 😀
Driveway looks very neat… how did you go getting the roller back on the trailer?? Steel rollers on steel ramp can be awkward

@@HomesteadingUncontained 😂😂
Snails, you live in France now, so will you go for them?
Julie has tried them, I could not face those little "snot" balls
@@HomesteadingUncontained 😅
have you thought about a geo ground grid for the drive way?
We were thinking of doing this method once we put on the final surface gravel. That will be after the construction phase. We will need something 👍🏻
Throw some tomats in there yumm oil flavour lol
haha, we have another bed for the tommies. 😀
👍🙂
Thanks Mick
