Clark and Lana come from the same place (meaning Smallville, not Krypton of course), and Lana understands and admires and loves that part of Clark, his upbringing and philosophy. However, Lana is simultaneously willing to operate in a gray area that Clark is not, and that's another facet of what makes their relationship so compelling. #Clana
One thing I’ve noticed throughout the seasons is Lana being worried how Clark will view her. She’s not perfect (lacked faith in Clark several times out of her own delusions) but I wouldn’t say she’s a bad person. She has a good heart so it’s annoying to see when Clark gets self righteous with her. Superman has a lot of growing up to do if he thinks the world is black and white. And I wouldn’t even say kidnapping Lionel to protect him is a moral grey either but I don’t remember this episode too much. Regardless she was protecting Clark and he threw it back in her face. What a prick thing to do. Sometimes people hide behind good in order to feel morally superior and it’s not “good” to me. It just looks like ego to me
“I just need to know that you love me no matter what”. Clark is silent. Actually he didn’t doubt here. If he said “yes”, she would take that as he approved her actions in that episode. Also as we saw later Clark really still loved her. Lana faked her death to accuse Lex because she was afraid that he could harm Clark after her leaving him (Lex). Then she kidnapped Lionel because earlier he had threatened her to kill Clark if she didn’t marry his son. There she also was afraid that he was able to hurt Clark. *How could Lana know that Lionel suddenly became a good guy and actually wanted to protect Clark?* Actually, Lana didn’t preferred her revenge for Lex over her love for Clark (watch again “Requiem” when Clark in the heat of passion was gonna kill his ex-friend but Lana immediately stopped him because she knew he would never forgive himself for killing someone). Later when she returned to Smallville she spied on Lex to stop his crimes (a good example in “Bulletproof” when she proved Tess that Lex used her (Tess) for his own goals). About her words in “Wrath” blaming Clark for not being able to put blood on his hands, she said that on emotions. Do you remember Clark’s own words in “Crimson” about his first meet with Lex? He said that he would never save him if he had knew who would turn him. My theory is proved in “Requiem” (see my comment above ☝️). Regarding this scene, Lionel who suddenly became good says Lana that she's "not trying to protect Clark. This is about retribution". He said this only to guide her the true path. I compare this scene with the one at the end of "Scion" when evil Lionel asked Tess why she did't kill him. She answered that was not who she was. Then bad version of her father said the following: "You may want to *change yourself to impress Clark Kent,* but we both know... Deep down... You'll *always be a Luthor.* Lionel-2 said that to guide her wrong path. So we can conclude Lana really wanted to protect Clark, not revenge The Luthors.
@TheUzumakiSpiral Lana's flaw is irascibility. That time she was too angry and didn't assault but hit Lois. Don't forget, Lana saved her earlier ('Gone') and later (11 season). Also Clark whose rule is 'not kill...ever' can kill in the heat of passion: 1) in 'Pariah, Alicia's murder (Lois stopped him); 2) in 'Vengeance', the guy that stole Jonathan's watch (Angel of Vengeance came and encouraged him to kill but Clark realized what he was gonna do just in time). 3) in 'Requiem', Lex (Lana stopped him).
i hate how clark tries to get a funny when the going gets tough, yes she has issues, she was affected by her relationship with lex and it changed her, ok. but she is still the same good person who is loyal to clark. clark needs to support her and stick it out, because thats a real relationship, its not perfect. it annoys me that he acts like hes so above her changing for maybe the worse, she can recover from it.
Clark is higly insensitive...if he was actually sensitive, they wouldnt be there at this very point. He would have realized that the real right thing to do was being honest since the beginning of season 5. But clark is too selifish and coward ,and decided to always keep the secret cause he was afraid to be rejected. In the meanwhile, instead of treating lana good since he already was lying to her and rejecting her when she wanted to be intimate, obviously clark treat lana like shit. The one time he open up, she dies. After turning back time, the dumb alien is not even able to say something like i love u and let lana walk away from him. Plus clark is so narcisistic that in this situation he doessnt understand how lana is hurt and needs love,NO,the only things he gets is that he is to blame for her changing and he is disapponted with her. What kind of a self centered asshole is clark.I cant believe this dude became superman.

Clark doesn’t owe Lana anything and if he saw past those rose colored glasses he would realize that.
