Very good video. Excellent detail and clearly explained. I'm grateful for smart folks like you who take the time to share your experiences and save the rest of us time and trouble!
Gustavo Aguiar Cool. We are trying to put more videos out there too. Are there any topics that you guys want to learn more about? We do a lot of wedding videography, have a good understanding of the business side of the wedding video/photo business, do some local commercials, etc.
wow!! watching the inner parts of the phantom for very first time.... now I see how the mavic's inners compares to the phantom... two different worlds but almost the same perfornance.... really cool. I'm in love with my mavic.... is very refined but a lot complex to repair than the phantoms.. is really cool to tune in phantoms... very different machines
I attempted to follow your instructions, which were great! However when I turn on the Phantom 2, all I can see in the goggles is the iOSD mini display and just a grey background. I was wandering at 5:28 in the video you go on to say that you test the connection works for the goggles, what do you see in that test? Is it just the iOSD mini display or have I gone wrong somewhere? If any one else can help as to why I am not seeing the video in the goggles that would be great :)
Thanks! I've been meaning to post a few more. But we have been swamped. Hopefully in the next week or so. Hit subscribe to get more videos. I plan on doing one to show my affordable backpack set up for the Phantom 2.
What connects into the actual Go Pro camera? What I mean is - How is the GoPros video data being sent to the Phantom/Transmitter? I dont see any connections or wires going in out of the goPro and I have watched a couple of these installs now. Does the transmitter pull the data from the GoPro or something else? Thanks!
Awesome tutorial!!! I live on Oahu also and my Flysight Black Pearl all in one kit just arrived. I just had one question. It came with a TX5802 200mw 32ch transmitter. How big of a range difference is the 200mw going to be compared to the immersion 600mw? Thinking of upgrading if there's a significant difference
I am not sure. I had one flight at Sunset Ranch. I was at the top and flew down to the bottom of the ranch. I was behind the barn and behind a stand of trees. According to the flight data it was 600m away. It started to get a little staticky and I lost my bearings for a moment but managed to fly back and land safely.
origmedia Thanks for the quick response. I'll try the 200mw first since it came with the kit, and order a 600mw anyway. What type of transmitter are you running? power?
Hi! Fantastic video! Very important for me.I watch that your GoPro si a Hero 3+ Black and at the end of the video you have put fantastic areal views. How did you set this GoPro to do areal views? You have filmed in HD or 2,7k? ISO at 400 or using some filters? Sorry for my bad english, I'm Italian. Greetings from Italy. Cheers, Alessandro
i see a lot of comments refering to you moving the compass. this info is for everyone --- he did not move the compass, he moved the canbus, the compass is on the other leg.
Hey, Had a question. i got an IOSD mini. and i cant connect the ground for the VTX to my VTX as it doesent have one.. do i need a VTX with ground? As with it being connected to the BATT. is confuses my drone. gimbal doesent do anything. and it doesent blink.
Good question. On the DJI Phantom 2 with the bundled Zenmuse Gimbal, the GoPro 3/3+ connects directly to the Zenmuse Gimbal where the GoPro LCD Bac Pac normally connects. What's great about that is that it charges the GoPro as it flies. Also, the ZenMuse Gimbal is able to take the video feed from the GoPro. That is what you are actually seeing in the First Person View transmission. So no additional cable is needed for that.
I figured it out, It wasn't the channel, I was messing with the bands and eventually band f made it work, now it works on any of the bands, I don't know what was wrong but it works now
Not a stupid question. The GoPro plugs directly into the ZenMuse gimbal which takes the video feed for the the glasses as well as simultaneously does a small charge for the GoPro. It won't totally recharge the GoPro but the GoPro won't drain either.
origmedia So, the GoPro is connected to the transmitter through the Zenmuse connection. By the way here is what I plan to buy for my Phantom 2 fpv, what do you think? bandgood.com Boscam RX LCD 5802 5.8GHz LCD Diversity Receiver 7 Inch Monitor $159.79 Boscam RX-LCD58802 Mointor Charging Adaptor $5.99 hobbyking.com ImmersiionRC 5.8Ghz Audio/Video Transmitter $69.99 readymaderc.com RC - 5.8 GHz SpiroNET Omni SMA Antenna Set (RHCP) $39.99 VAS - 5.8 GHz 5 Turn Helical $33.99 firstpersonview.com Plug and Play Cable: DJI Phantom 2 to iOSD Mini and Fat Shark?Immersion RC Transmitter $21.00 helipal.com DJI iODS Mini on Screen Display Module $69.90 Total $400.65 not including shipping Also I need a bracket to mount the monitor to my Phantom controller
dvc45 I don't know anything about the Boscam stuff but the rest seems good. But I just did a quick look. Just do a double check that it is all compatible. I'm pretty sure that it is. I bought the FatShark kit that had the FPV glasses and transmitter bundle. I already had a Liliput monitor that I could attach to the FPV glasses as a second monitor or external.
you never mentioned how I am suppose to connect the Fat Shark Camera. The only thing that is being displayed in my Fat Shark is the mini IOSD data. no picture. Please Help....
Aloha John, good question. In my set up and installation, there is the no need to set up the Fat Shark Camera at all. You will be seeing the video directly from the GoPro and the iOSD mini data will be overlaid onto the GoPro footage in the glasses. I bought the kit that came withe Fat Shark Camera, so now I have an extra camera. What makes this possible in my set up is the DJI Phantom 2 with the bundled ZenMuse Gimbal. On the DJI Phantom 2 with the bundled Zenmuse Gimbal, the GoPro 3/3+ connects directly to the Zenmuse Gimbal where the GoPro LCD Bac Pac normally connects. The ZenMuse Gimbal is able to take the video feed from the GoPro. That is what you are actually seeing in the First Person View transmission. OK, this answers most of my questions. BUT, I don't have the Zenmuse and don't plan to. How do I use the FatShark camera instead of the Gopro and Zenmuse?
Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. I haven't used the fat shark camera. Weird I just got notified of your question. Sorry it took so long to reply.
I am planning to use this same setup.. But I am wondering.. How did the batterylife/flight time get affected by these new components? And does the batterylife be much more shorter with 250mW tx than 25mW?
Aloha Jon, In my experience, the battery life is about 17-20 minutes now depending on wind conditions. In windy conditions, the battery life is shorter since the Phantom works harder to compensate. I don't know how much the 250mW affects the battery life. So far, I have been pretty happy with this set up. I have not lost signal to the glasses and will get the occasional static. Though, I only fly about 600 meters away from myself and try to keep a clear line of sight (no trees and buildings) if I can.
I have not had any issues. Thanks. (To be honest, though, I was not sure if that is the compass. I thought the compass was on the inside already near the center of the top. But I really don't know.) Regardless, I have not had any issues.
having installed this plug and play lead were do I plug my wire from my camera two. as I am not using a gimbal I have plugged mini osd in and the other two power and fatshark vtx so were do I plug my camera two . any ideas would be helpful thanks lee
I was under the impression that the compass was on the top under the shell to begin with. Can someone confirm? Either way, the moving of that connection on the leg did not affect my flights.
Jeff Orig GPS is on the top. Compass is on the leg. Compass is supossed to be as far as away from the electronics as possible so it doesn't throw the compass and crash. This seem weird, shouldn't work at all.
are you using zenmuse h3-3d? I have that and excitedly installed the gimbal with the provided board.. working out fine. but now I want to add PFV.. was wondering if this setup of yours would be the same for my setup (Phantom2+Zenmuse H3-3D) already installed
@mhmd abolil (Sorry I don't know how to reply to the "linked comments"). The transmitter and antenna are separate. Some common brands are Fat Shark or ImmersionRC First Person View feed/transmitter.
mhmd abolil I believe the 5.8 ghz is better. From what I understand, the 2.4 ghz will interfere with the controls of the Phantom. That is why you can't use the iPhone/Android app for the GoPro. It is also in the 2.4 ghz space and will interfere with your flight controls. I got 1 x Fat Shark TELEPORTER V3 Video Glasses (FS-TELEPORTERV3) $199.99 1 x 5.8 GHz SpiroNET Omni SMA Antenna Set (RHCP) (SN5G8RHSET) $39.99 www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2280 www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1058 Hope that helps.
Yup thank very much , but the problem is that in my country it's illegal to use any 5.8ghz devices which is the reason for me not buying the p2vision+ !! So lol now I have no shit to by in my country
Sorry, I don't remember exactly but I have this kit and love it. Have used it for years on all kinds of upgrades. eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/TOOLKIT14/ It has small philips and small hex screwdrivers.
I have a question if you don't mind. I just bought Phantom 2 with H3-3D gimbal and the new GoPro Hero 4 silver. Obviously I want FPV. I was thinking of getting DJI iOSD Mini, Dji Phantom 2 Fpv Cable and Hub, DJI AVL58 5.8G, and Black Pearl 5.8Ghz. Will these be enough to have the complete FPV?? Thanks
Aloha Valentine Prokopets, I'm sorry, I am not too familiar with that set up. I would feel bad if I gave you the wrong advice. Where do you plan on getting the set up? Maybe they can help you get the info you need.
That WILL be enough. That was my exact setup until I decided to step over to the Immersion 600mW. Not happy with the DJI AVL58 and now that I found this plug and play cable, it's a no brainer.
Christopher DeAntonio Cool. Let us know how it goes. I wish I got a referral fee or affiliate commission from this cable. But oh well. Maybe they will like this video and sponsor us....
Christopher DeAntonio I have the immersion 250. Tested out my gimbal and forgot to put the antenna on the TX. The red light was no longer on and it wasnt sending signal. I just ordered a new one, received it and same exact thing?? Any idea....I cant seem to figure it out, even the iosd is still flashing green.
trevor bona Hi Trevor. Sorry I don't know what it might be. I know you probably checked, but are all connections good? Maybe it's fried. I thought you need to have the antenna on or else it fries the board. I hope not. Good luck.
@Jason Smith (for some reason I can't reply directly to your message. It says you have a "Linked Comment") When I test in the goggles, I see both the iOSD mini data and the image from the GoPro. Troubleshooting: Is the GoPro on and have power? Is GoPro in video mode? Is GoPro plugged all the way into the ZenMuse Gimbal? On the top of the goggles, there are some buttons that change the channel and change the aspect ratio. Try experimenting with those buttons to change channel. But if you are seeing the iOSD data then you are probably on the correct channel. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
I purchased this cable knowing I was not going to get and Iosd mini now but later on in the future. Will this still work because Ive set everything up and the goggles never picked up on the go pro image. Go pro was on and on video mode, I check every channel and every band and nothing is coming up. Some times i get static but im wondering if because the cord is not plugging into an iosd mini that might be the fault. I very much doubt it and if it is the actual problem then that is beyond stupid but yea, hoping you could help me out :)
No worries, I will keep at it. I purchased the new Dominator HD v2's and then I got ImmersionRC 5.8Ghz Audio/Video Transmitter FatShark compatible (600mw). On my goggles I have 5G8RX 32 Channel Goggle Rx module with Race Band. There seems to be a trouble connection between the both. I know something is happening as I am picking up some frequency interruption :/
+Rafi Sandlow only if you want to see the telemetry data like how high up the quadcopter is, how far away from "home," power voltage, flight velocity, horizontal attitude, etc. amzn.to/1MjwVUJ
The only issue... you have the video TX antenna mounted right next to the on board compass on the leg. I would NOT recommend that, just turn the video transmitter 180 degrees and have it the other side.
origmedia hey, dont mind my comment. Your video rocks and super helped me out. I had a crappy day the day I left the comment and I totally forgot the rule if one doesnt have something nice to say they should keep their mouth shut. Keep up the good videos and thanks for the tips!
***** :) no worries! I did not take any offense to it at all. I did actually debate whether or not to put music. We have been working on a whole series of videos that we hope to post in the next month or so. It is everything I have learned from film school plus everything after too. In thinking about it, I should set a deadline and we work toward it. Anyway, hope you have an awesome day. BTW, I like honest feedback. I want us to improve our videos but at the same time understand that not everyone will love everything we do. In fact, I don't love everything we do and see room for improvement.
Very good video. Excellent detail and clearly explained. I'm grateful for smart folks like you who take the time to share your experiences and save the rest of us time and trouble!
Haskell Moore Did you get this set up? I'm curious to know how it went.

One last question. How would you use this same exact setup with the plug and play cable, but without using the gimbal?
Hey Ndude, sorry, I missed this comment. I don't know how it would be done. Maybe the folks at www.firstpersonview.com can answer.
Is the transmitter and antenna are included with the IOSD mini package ? Or I have to buy them separately ? And if so what are they (the name) ?
what connects the actual go pro. is there a special cable for that?
Good question. On the DJI Phantom 2 with the bundled Zenmuse Gimbal, the GoPro 3/3+ connects directly to the Zenmuse Gimbal where the GoPro LCD Bac Pac normally connects. The only issue... you have the video TX antenna mounted right next to the on board compass on the leg.
I would NOT recommend that, just turn the video transmitter 180 degrees and have it the other side.
а на фантом первого поколения можно так сделать? на dji Phantom fc-40
Aloha Igor, I am not sure if the first generation phantom can do this? Does anyone else know?
может кто то и знает. но сегодня не ответят . привет из Москвы. мягкой посадки!
annoying background music ruins the informational video, otherwise the vid would be perfect.
I debated whether or not to put background music. I'll keep it in mind for the future.
origmedia hey, dont mind my comment.
In fact, I don't love everything we do and see room for improvement.
thank you i just bought this cable. you saved
me from buying the wrong cable.
