EVERYTHING you need to know about MINIONS in [Path of Exile 2] [Patch 0.1]

- I have never played Path of Exile but have casually played Diablo games in the past. I was always interested in POE1 because I was told you could get pretty crazy with minions. With the release of POE2 I thought it would be a perfect time to give it a try and I was surprised by how much the game scratched my necromancer itch.
As I have never played POE1 I may have gotten some terminologies or verbage wrong in my video, sorry about that.
Please keep in mind that this video isn't meant to tell you explicitly how to make your build, but give you all the information I learned in hopes it helps you with deciding what minions to use. Hopefully you find the video somewhat useful.
High quality vid, loved how it's edited too would love to see more
I agree
Love the video, good job. Im currently maining frost mage. I would have talked about how Jewels are like MEGA important for frost because of how much they rely on crits
You're right, I definitely should have dedicated a bit more time to talking about jewels, thanks for the feedback!
Great video. Hard to keep up with your narration. Best slow it down haha but very informative. Just started using a storm mage. Very nice addition. Had to get rid of the warriors though to make room for the stormy gem so now only two warriors off my sceptre
Haha, rewatching the video and feedback from other videos do sometimes mention I narrate too quickly. I think I inherently just want to give the information as quickly and concisely as possible, in an attempt to not waste the viewers' time... buuut maybe a slightly slower cadence would provide a better listening experience. Thank you for the feedback!
Could also turn down playback speed. Honestly I'd love to see this as some sort of info graphic or at least have timestamps in the video to easily refresh on specific minions and support gems
Good point and thank you for the feedback, I'll try and slow it down a bit in the future or maybe have a small recap section containing the most important info at the end of topic discussions. Also, yes I should put down time stamps, sorry about that!
@@gyle104 You are 100% fine. And I am 15% slow, lol.
I turn down the speed and turn on captions so I can study this great info.
Others like a high rate of speed.
Thank you for sharing! My highest level char is a minion witch, and now I have learned a few ways to improve her!
Good video. I learned a few things, suggestion with snipers and hellhound is to spam gas arrow where the hound is for screen clearing auto detonates when landing, easy leveling when you get the hound
Great summary!
I'll note that Storm Mages work great without Doryani's, I'm not at all sure it's even better with how strong Curses and Exposure are, and the opportunity cost from losing Spirit on your chest (and the ES / res / stats), plus the limited range on the debuff.
Currently did all content on SSF with them, they're my favourite having tried 6 classes and every Minion gem.
2nd fav was Chronomancer Reavers with Temp Chains Aura.
I'll also note that Sigil of Power works on Storm Mages and Frost Mages, and is an easy 15-60% More Damage for bosses/Ritual/Essence on demand.
These are excellent points, thank you for sharing!
I'm pretty happy to hear you had such success with the Storm Mages, early on in the EA a lot of early discussion talked about how bad they were, but its nice seeing that all skeletal minions are getting pretty good usage.
Also, thanks for the heads up about Sigil of Power, because of my personal play style I never tried it but thats a really good tip!
The best minion video I’ve seen yet on YT, and I’ve seen a lot😅
I had a lot of fun playing the witch this actually gave me some idea on how to further increase the builds power
i play Reaver & Frost Mage. so many things i didnt know and learn from this detailed video. great job man.
Subbed at 2 mins into the vid. Thanks, great info.
There is another for the Skeleton Clerics. A Support Gem you might consider. Second Wind. It might make the overall Cooldown a bit longer, but having the ability to revive twice the minions at once when they die as opposed to just One per Cleric. Especially if your minions aren't constantly dying to begin with. It just is a benefit. Since they'll have more available when you truly need them, as opposed to sitting on one raise per cleric which realistically isn't going to improve much unless you ahve a bunch of them. Which as you said, can be too much.
With it, a Group of 2 Celrics can keep alive a significantly larger group and revive significnatly more if/when some do die.
Great video. Thanks for the breakdown..im having a blast with my witch
Excellent video with great detail. Thank you!
Why is there no comments the vid it's really good ?
Damn good
Because it’s so good it doesn’t have so many comments, video is so well explained that there are no questions 😂 unlike us other videos that I watched, more than half of them makes no F sense and BS and a tag kill everything in 1 hit…
Because we're working on our builds 🤣
Awesome video
Excellent video, fun and full of helpful tips! Subscribed.
Good job!!! No clickbait garbage. Just good info.
Incredible video mate? Thank you very much
Nice vid. Thanks for doing all the legwork.
One of the best POE2 vids I've seen to date! 👍 Only thing missing that I use is Cast on Minion Death... I cast a Comet when they die.
Super informative.
This is awesome, keep it up!
great vid. nice format bro
Great overview and well done, as usual with many builds , jewels are a great way to scale damage and defenses here too. I have noticed something new in PoE2- "skill speed" seems to apply to all gem types, you can observe the boost in speed to all by the shrine in "maps" which some of us are used to being movement speed in PoE1. There are nodes on the skill tree that have this over in the monk starter area. Possible attack/cast speed build variety for minion speed improvements using skill speed :). Check it out!
Oh this is pretty interesting, thanks for bringing this up!
I should have maybe talked more about jewels, or at least talked about which jewels can have beneficial rolls for minions.
I never thought to look at skill tree nodes with "skill speed." Thank you again for bringing it up and I'll look more into it!
This is crazy good information. Well covered and concise 👌🏽
I personally like having Meatshield on my Infernal Hound simply to just make him a literal meatshield and more tanky. I don't rely on him for his personal damage but for the sake of ignite and Fire Exposure and for boosting the fire damage my Snipers do against ignited enemies. Martial Tempo and the support gem that increases projectile speed by 40% is a must on Snipers.
Very well done sir 🙏
There is unique shield (of focus?) with ES that increases minion's life and sets their resistances equal to yours (so gems adding resists don't work on minions). Since capping resistances is the usual goal of every build anyway, I will try to create build around it, as this is very strong from very early game. All minions become more tanky and rarely die on normal areas and survive a bit longer on bosses, which makes them more reliable. That shield also has a decent ES amount, so it should be fine in endgame. This will allow omitting resist nodes on the tree and invest in something else. Will see how it goes. Early in the campaign it's incredibly strong. If you know that boss uses fire, equip against fire and all minions will have 75% resist, which in act 1 or 2 is unbelievably strong and so far, all bosses fights are like in easy mode. Balabala killed by first approach (warriors+frost mages). Will see how they will deal with end act 2 boss - this is the biggest test.
One tips I think may help newer players or anyone feeling like their minions just aren't clearing maps fast enough, try disabling the gemcutting restriction option and doubling up on storm makes or whatever you prefer. I use only 1 minion storm mage to prime, and 10 storm makes scaled for high damage. Clearing is much faster. Almost all my skill points go to minions.
Sigil of power on secondary staff. Got luck with a 70 increase mana scepter with 3 lvls of minion from spamming vendors. Don't get attached to your money. If your not poor early to mid tier mapping, your wasting it since it serves little to no other "value ' ironic huh.
I also use eye of winter for crit, and frost wall for when things get nutty. Blink is a life saver and a game changer. Oh and don't forget pain offering for bosses and just whenever and detonate dead bc why not and the must have is conductivity. And what squishy witch could survive without Grim feast. Hope the helps. You can get my build for less than 5 div. I didn't pay for gear until I started to make bank selling sapphire rings and stellar amulets. Hope this helps someone. This game and build are loads of fun. Good luck fellow exiles and oh yeah, duh, great video homie! Really informative no matter how many hours you have in. Well done. You get a sub and a like for sure!
Freaking auto correct killed the mesgelol. Make equals mage.
Only question I'm still not too sure about is meat Shields interaction with other independent skills like arsonists command or corpse explosion (whatever the real name is) with sacrifice. I assumed meat Shield did reduce damage of infernal leagon so I took it off of those units but also wasn't sure if it effected the independent skills in the same way (assume not).
Other thing you left out is that does work is sacrifice's interaction with meat recycling (passive skill tree) and all skills of the like. I was dumb and didn't think it worked that way till I was able to test it myself.
Good informative video thanks!
I think Overwhelming Presence also helps with stun chance for Brutes and ailments trigger for frost, arsonist, shock skeletons.
Oh thats something I completely didn't even think about, thanks for the heads up!
Well researched video thanks for sharing. If you do a follow up can you explain how brutality works with snipers, i think it cancels the poison arrow damage, and any fire damage from flame wall. Would it prevent internal hound from doing ignite?
Ofc it does, ignite is a secondary damaging ailment scale off fire damage, that's the core mechanic built in the fundamental game-code, even tho in this case the skill says ignite is 20% of puppy's life which doesn't look like a fire damage, it still is (just didnt say so) that because that's the only way the game allows, and using brutality will turn off any fire part of a skill so this ignite would be turned off too.
Really good video 👍
Persistence is mandatory when using zombies, zombies also need buffing. too much cost and duration is crappy
There's a slight amendment i would like to suggest. Totems don't have the minion tag but both they and minions count as allies both to recieve aura and node buff but also to trigger buffs on the player that require an ally in ones presence.
That is to say its a square and rectangle kind of thing.
All minions are allies but not all allies are minions.
Put the firey death support gem on the hound and every mob has a 60% chance to do a corpse explosion.
Good point, I should have included something mentioning allies now that you mentioned it.
In my testing (and playthrough) I have never seen Fiery Death proc from Legion or Hound's ignite (Which makes sense, theres no actual igniting "hit").
@gyle104 you may be correct. I don't have the dog but I tested it with both infernal legion on the basic skeletons and it didn't seem to proc.
My mistake.
So one thing you're going to need to do is put the patch number in your title (0.1 in this case) because things will be changing very quickly and you don't want new people getting confused down the line. This will be especially relevant because spectres are aimed to be coming in the next patch.
Yeah that's a good point, thanks for that.
Based on what you said about Infernal Legion with Meat Shield, can I assume that Minion Instability with Meat Shield is a net damage loss as well? Trying to build popcorn skeles, but was unsure of Meat Shields efficacy.
For Arsonists, wouldn't it make more since to use supports that ramp up our fire damage like immolate? I have a hard time putting heft in for them when my hell hound is applying fire exposure and I am lowering fire res with flammability. I think there is a better synergy in scaling fire damage with the conversion, unless I am missing something.
Great video
Good video.
One thing I can't seem to figure it is what exactly affects Minion instability.
feeding frenzy seems to affect it, but fire infusion does not. Allies in area do more damage on a scepter didn't seem to either. You said that magnified effect does, but i couldn't tell the difference. I am pretty bad at testing. Maybe you can figure it out?
Thats actually a good point, I could have included a section for Minion Instability and explored that more. I'm sorry, I don't have a comprehensive list off the top of my head to say for sure what works and what doesn't. But, if I revisit this video topic in the future (Like if there are a large number of added support gems for example) I'll make sure to include it.
With the new fix to body block, i hope melee minion finally works.
Great job!
for infernalist they should be using meat shield for the more uptime on damage reduction and exposure bot... not really there for the ignite/auto attack damage anyways.
lovely and informative, just slow a bit on narration but on point boiii
May be you can have sacrifice in your weapon swap, together with some kind of fodder minion (like a lot of clerics)
And then you weapon swap to another set of minions, which will be instatly summoned?
You should be able to keep the scorpions (inless the swap makes you unable to have the stat requirements for the skill)
I see what you're going for, just a heads up, theres a bit of wonkiness that happens with weapon-swap resummoning when the minion respawn timer is active. I don't believe you lose your temporary minions on swap, but you basically lose your skeletal minions during the timer (in my experience) upon swapping, and they don't resummon stacked on eachother once the timer finishes.
Nice vid
For the Reaver/Storm combo maybe not taking a 15% or 25% revive node would help. Sounds like a fun setup
The offset revive timer may give you a decent enough room to time storms, so I'd say why not? I just didn't want to flat out tell people to skip a specfiic revive node but give them the info to come up with stuff like this that works for them personally. Thanks for the suggestion!
YOU SAY FORK ISNT *PRACTICAL*. SIR PRACTICALITY IS NOT WHY I PLAY POE2
Haha, excellent point! We are kinda similar in that regard!
all the small youtube channel have been just popping up on my feed huh
hurry and reach 50k subs u got this
I tried using my storm mages ability but with my stoic scepter none of my minions are dying what do I do to be able to cast. I’m confused.
Bidding (increase minions' command skill) is bugged, increasing damage by 60% instead of 30%. Not worth a gem slot, but still worth mentioning.
Also, clearifying a bit for Heft: it increases MAXIMUM physical damage by 60% (yes, 60%, not 30% as stated in the description). It basically increases the range in which the damage of your attack can choose values from. Lets say your snipers damage is 1000 to 1500, heft increases it to 1000 to 2400, 60% more on the upper limit but no change in the lower limit. As noticed, the bigger the range between minimum and maximum, the bigger the bonus granted by Heft. Also, since it is a modifier that changes the range of the rolls, it occurs BEFORE conversions/gains, so snipers, arsonists and Raging spirits all get full benefit from it even with conversion/gain (except the bonus damage from projectiles passing through flame wall, it does not benefit from Heft).
Thanks for the heads up, this is really good information. Thank you for sharing it!
Honestly if you were trying to use a varied number of skeletal types (Not necessarily recommended but wanted it to put it out there for whoever wants to do it), you start reaching for different things to improve damage (hence the bidding mention). But I really appreciate you taking the time to break things down in the comments.
like you work here
Good Vid !
Should i invest in crit for arsonists ? Also, id love to see your skill tree for an optimized infernalist skeletal arsonists build please.
I do not personally use crit nodes for arsonists, but theres no reason you shouldn't. Because minion base crit chance is 5%, a 100% increase from the skill tree would only be 10% which is not nothing. I typically use those extra skill points in getting more jewel slots in the passive tree.
good video but can you increase your volume a bit it will be perfect
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind next time!
I find gearing infernalist summoner a little weird because i feel like i dont deal damage and the clear is very slow but i can stack a lot of rarity(currently have 200%+) even with sup-par defense(i have 75% elemental/20% chaos) and still feel very safe. Ive tried the barrier invocation infernalist but in the end i gave up and came back to minion build because its to complicated and the gear is as expensive as the minion build(not as expensive as the meta classes tho)
25:49 exhausting their duration DOES count as a death. I run a 3 COMD build and i have no issue gaining energy while in a hideout
Correct, duration expired minions count as if they have "died." However, the tooltip for Cast on Minion Death specifically says minions must be "Killed" as in, have reached 0 HP to provide energy. I guess I could have communicated that better.
out of all this study, what build do you use? I'm lazy and use 2 cleric, 1 storm and max arsonists. It's slower clear speed is it's only downside but I almost have to try to die. I never use the arsonists command ability, should I be using it?
I typically use Snipers and reavers with brutes/clerics for flavor. You don't necessarily "have" to use arsonists' command ability, I'm sure the mana can be better spent elsewhere to help with clear speed (Offerings? Curses? Crit Weakness?). Explosive Demise's inclusion was just for the sake of video comprehensiveness and interesting stuff I found about it.
Only thing this video is missing is time stamps for when i come back
You need better mic. But other than that, really nice content
Please share your build if possible. Unrelated: I find the bugs around minions counts quite funny. Sometimes it goes over 100
nothing about what class and ascendancy ^^ ?
why I got more benefit from Demolisher then Comorbidity for skeletal sniper ? Whenever I use Comorbidity the poison doesn't damage any morbs. IDK if it's a bug or something but I find Comorbidity is quite trolling.
Are you using brutality at the same time?
@@JimmyJames-om2uw no, my skeletal sniper been using envenom - corrosion - Fork - Demolisher - Splinter
You’re wrong about meat shield it’s works great for infernal hound
its not all. How about 2h hammer?
Very informative i mind wanted to play around with Zombie but found it clunky
They're probably the worst of the bunch currently, which is a shame. Mostly due to their movement speed and how they don't follow you well / respawn next to you.
Yeah, I really wanted to use zombies but even with all the movement speed buffs and effort spent on summonining Empowered Zombies, it was just too much busy work. Definitely usable but as you said, very clunky.
How did you learn all of this? Did you study it with pen and paper?
Haha, mostly just remembering what I experimented with. I definitely missed some stuff as evidenced by the comments but I have fun just trying out interactions as I play games.
Does font of rage work? Tried with brutes and atleast in the tooltip nothing happens to their dmg
The Font of Rage buff can be visually seen on your minions as well as your char, but your right, the minions damage sheet does not get updated with Rage stacks.
@gyle104 so you certain the dmg geht's applied? On the own char the damage is shown in the sheet..Di you feel dealing more damage with font of rage?
@@dezenturio8498
Font of Rage 100% works, you can test vs a unique monster in acts with a low level minion if you wanna see.
@@CantripN tyvm, slottet it first but thought it bugged due to tooltip dmg shown and unequipped x)
It's still frustrates me that no minion has a taunt.
Skeletal warrior should 100% get a taunt as a command skill.
It still frustrates me that the warrior doesn't have a taunt.
He gave no love to unearth lol many ways to use it and improve it
I'll admit I didn't explore unearth as much as I probably should have. Do you have any very obvious interactions or support gems I may have missed that weren't mentioned in the video?
@@gyle104 Corpse conservation doesn't always consume a corpse. I think persistence would increase the duration for the bone constructs.
Bone constructs are easy targets for the arsonist command. The damage isn't that great since their life is somewhat low, but you wouldn't be sacrificing other more important minions and the bone constructs are going to expire after a duration anyway.
Also, using unearth on a corpse that was infected with contagion will make the bone constructs become a carrier of the contagion and will spread it on auto attacks. I am not sure but there might be some scalability with that and some other chaos spells.
I loved this skill leveling up as it had a lot utility and provided a lot of frontline for me. I am sure there is more to discover.
Greatest poe2 minion guide ever!
That part about Meat Shield bugged me... I didn't know about the ignite interaction, thought it would only apply to attacks.
You think playing a witch in poe2 for a few hours qualifies you to title your video this?
Hi, I made this video after roughly 200 hours of playtime. Do you feel like the title was too misleading or the content did not match the title?
In any case, thanks for the feedback, it gives me something to improve on in the future.
