Now that's the Mike I came to respect from reading your articles in Guns of the Old West(now defunct, sadly). Between the "authorities" you have dealt with on your own turf and now 0 the Sony idiots, you have had your hands full this year. I hope it gets better brother.🫡
No, I didn't see no ad on this video. Recently I watched a lot of Westerns and saw a lot of familiar guns from pedersoli and uberti. Like in Buster Scruggs I saw 1861 and in Django there was nice Pedersoli double barrel shotgun. Not to mention Wheels
I love Silverado! The opening scene which begins with a fast and furious gunfight and ends with a magnificent orchestral theme is the best of any western ever made. I’ve seen the movie dozens of times and still don’t tire of it. Thanks for this video.
If I remember correctly, at the release and success of Silverado it was hailed as the resurrection of the the American Western. Hard to argue against that.
Great movie. I also paid big bucks in the 1980s to own a few movies. Paid around 80 bucks for "Outlaw Josey Whales" and also for "Jeremiah Johnson." I should have hung onto all those VHS movies; my relatives in Kentucky are just now beginning to buy VHS players. 😊 Thanks for doing this video. Wish I had a dollar for every time I've watched "Silverado" through the years. It was a favorite of my Dad's, as well as my father-in-law.
I have visited the Midnight Star casino in Deadwood. Costner owned it at the time. The top floor restaurant had his clothes from different westerns displayed around the dining area, including his Silverado outfit.
I saw "Silverado" in the theater and loved it, much more so than the other big western that year, "Pale Rider". Regarding Mal's "fake Henry", it must have been there to be noticed, given that a genuine Henry was also featured in the movie. Whether is it was a nod the fake Henry's of the classic westerns or it was supposed to be a broken down 1866 that Mal would later trade-in for his father's Henry. If Mal started out with a genuine Henry, the audience would never know the difference when he took his dead father's rifle. If he started out with a intact 1866 or 1873, it would be foolish to downgrade to his father's Henry.
Fascinating as usual Mike. The studio should be thankful you are giving this movie free advertising. Silverado was the best western ever made for all the reasons you gave.
The studio is the problem. How does TH-cam take your clear right to show clips away ? What was their rationale ? They clearly must have one. Or youtab is biased and culpable.
Excited to see this video. Silverado is an absolute favorite, and I remember how good it was to see in the theater. I wanted a Henry very badly for a long time.
Silverado was the first movie I ever seen in a theatre. 1 of my uncle's took me to see it when I was 7 or 8. The seen where Jake draws both guns and shoots the stairs case under the citizens feet, that is still my favorite all-time western seens and 1 of the reasons I started shooting gunfighter in SASS. Thanks for this episode Mike, I really enjoyed it! Until next time, bye Kelly, aka D.D. Freighter
That "Derringer up the sleeve" gag was done, but it required a mechanical rig that held the gun on a strut, that when pressed a certain way against your side would allow the rig to drop by gravity to your hand. They rarely worked well, hence you only see it as the gambler's gimmick....
Appaloosa actually used the same town set as Silverado. They just moved some of the buildings around. Very underrated film. 95% of the script was lifted straight out of the novel by Robert B Parker.
In the first Midway movie Charleston Heston's character crashes into the flight deck of one of the carriers. The crash is footage of a Grumman Korean War vintage F-9-F Panther. A jet powered aircraft. Probably they were short of color footage.
Thanks Mike, another great video from you. I am a fan of this movie as well. Great cast and scenery. Totally enjoy what you did. I must have watched it half a dozen times. Didn't take as much notice of the firearms as you. Keep up the good work mate.
I have been looking forward to seeing your take on this topic since you posted about it on Facebook. I love this movie& I love hearing your thoughts on old guns. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Excellent video on the accuracy of the guns,Silverado is 1 of my favorites, among many others. Keep making the videos and we will keep watching them, God bless see you on the trail.
Hey Mike, greetings from a fellow old gun lover also from the great state of Pennsylvania! Happy to hear one of my favorite gun tubers is also from my home state! I'm a huge long time fan of the channel.
I love Silverado. It's a phenomenal Western. Paden is my favorite character in the movie I feel dumb. I always thought that Danny Glover used a Winchester 1866. But I have been enlightened after watching this, and I thank you for this, Mike
Hi Mike, good job on this video! So to hear YT took your revenue from you and gave it to the studio. That sucks!! I remember seeing Silverado when it first came out. I was so happy because as you said Westerns we're dieing. Even bought it on VHS and disc. Great movie still today. Funny watched it on Netflix a few weeks ago. Thanks for all your hard work and time Sir you are appreciated! 🤠🇺🇲
I never saw Silverado even though it came out my last year in high school and by 1990, I was working in Blockbuster. I don't think I could ever take Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Jeff Goldblum as characters in serious western. Because of your recommendation, I'll watch it. Until Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released (1991?), new releases were $80-$90 retail. Stores had distributor discounts, but would buy 40 of a new release, then start selling them used once interest dropped. Movies that were 4 or more years old were $20-$80, depending on packaging or popularity like Gone With the Wind or Casablanca. Roger Rabbit broke everything. IIRC, on release, it was only $19.99 and was available in November. Our store sold over 100 copies pre-order from late September. They made great Christmas gifts. Great video.
The western that I have seen with the most authentic firearms and general look of the characters is the 1940 movie "Arizona" with William Holden. The technical advisor got it pretty spot on.
I remember reading an article in the 90s when Tombstone came out. The film generally got praise for. getting the details in terms of clothing and firearms right
It seems strange that Sony would file a protes. All you did was offer them free advertising for a movie that was done in the last century. @@duelist1954
A fun video, thank you. Oddly for a black powder fan (fanatic?), I am not really into the cowboy thing so I have never seen this movie, but that cast is so incredible I will be finding it to watch and I appreciate the recommendation. I am so sorry that YT is so freaking insane that they stole your revenue, but I'm glad I could see the clips.

Loved this video because Silverado was one of my favorite throwback movies. Sad thing is I didn't get to see it until the 1990's when a friend told me about it. I, like you was surprised at the attempt the studio went to portray actual historical firearms despite being a little off. Some of the one liners were nuggets to the old westerns of the 50's and 60's. I actually used the Silverado theme music to do a video about our cowboy group. The cast was pure magic and did a fantastic job with their characters.
One of my favorites as well and I saw the clips just fine. I did not know that Mal's Henry was not a real Henry. That was an interesting bit of info. Thanks.

Rather than Kevin Kline simply not knowing how to twirl guns, this is likely telling us more about Paden as a character. No nonsense tricks for him and the duel with Cobb was painful because these two men were still friends and though they were determined to kill the other, and knew why it must be done, neither of them liked it. So Paden's slow reholstering was because he was shook by having had to kill an old friend/comrade.

Great review, Mike! One of my favorite all time movies. I’ve always wondered about Danny’s 1866/Henry clone myself. My only thought that the son wanted to emulate the dad and made his more modern rifle to look like his dad’s. Or you could go for a real long shot and say that maybe somewhere out on the range, Mal’s fore end was damaged and he removed it. Also, thanks for the details on the British revolvers. I knew Cleese’s revolver was a Webley but didn’t. Realize what Payden’s was!

"Guns to keep in your Chevy Silverado"😄
LOL!
The character of Jake was written especially for Costner as an apology for deleting all his scenes from The Big Chill.
That must have hurt when his scenes got left on the cutting room floor.
The guns used in Gettysburg along with its prequel Gods and Generals would be a good review
Along with the Patriot
