  • In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring on Jason Sumners, Director of the Missouri Department of Conservation, to discuss a hot topic we've been focused on recently, Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD.) Jason has a ton of experience in wildlife management and has worked for MDC since 2008. As hunters, we're asking the difficult questions around CWD and what the solution is for a healthy deer herd moving forward. The truth is, it's not as black and white as you'd think it would be. After years of collecting data and a lot of money invested into CWD, they're still looking for an answer. We want to thank Jason for coming on the podcast and sharing his knowledge on a sensitive subject. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

    Maryland has the “ earn a buck “ rule as well in place !! Kill 1 Buck then you need to harvest 2 does then you can use the other Buck tag in rifle but obviously you can use your bow , but Maryland dose offer a 2nd bonus Buck tag only available in certain counties and sections depending on if private or public !

    I know this is a Missouri based conversation, but being a couple of PA guys, one thing I wished PA did is for their late season after Christmas, allow Inline Muzzleloaders along with the flintlocks. I get the tradition aspect of it but for a more effective way to shoot doe or even a late season buck I feel having the ability to use an Inline would be huge! Love the podcasts, genuine good listening on all of them!

    One problem with the surveys (and its self inflicted by hunters) is guys either dont have their email address on file or dont check their email. Then they complain they didn't get surveyed. These surveys are also posted on the mdc website but people dont participate then complain about decisions made. Makes no sense at all. If guys are concerned they need to participate.

    There needs to be more doe only seasons to get doe killed. Glad pennsylvania has the early muzz and youth rifle seson for doe. But having a statewide rifle doe season, tagged on for a weekend somewhere wouldn't hurt. Concurrent buck and doe seasons don't help those who hold out till the last second to shoot doe. By that time deer are already pressured and nocturnal and tags go unfilled.

    I am not fully accepted of cross guns here & am not fully moving on lol (jokes I guess) & get rifle season tf outta the rut. Talking about ‘getting the most hunters out in the most exciting time’.. man they’re gonna hunt whatever time you set the season wether it’s the most exciting time or not. & can shoot 2-350 yards maybe more anyways, they’re gonna shoot something eventually if they actually enjoy it & want to. ‘I’d love to have a big buck behind every tree but’ .. BUT!!?! But what dude cmon 😂😂 let the people who love the shit & spend all the money & time they can out there get the benefits. Instead of the drunk orange army running around throwing their Busch cans in the ditches shoot all the big ones from acrossed a couple fields

    • @bowhuntingforlife
      @bowhuntingforlife วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jinsennave2174 data is not showing that would be the case. Most hunters are not die hard hunters. Most are rifle season hunters only. The biggest problem we face is losing hunters numbers to where we can’t keep the herd balanced. If we move rifle season it may cause a huge amount of casual hunters to not participate anymore and that’s a big problem.

    • @jinsennave2174

      @thehuntersight7548 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@bowhuntingforlife eh, not really a problem. I don't buy the hoopla about hunter numbers declining and hunting going away. Lease prices sure don't reflect! Lots of hunting companies and products out there selling stuff to hunters. I think we have plenty of hunters and need to focus on quality of experience which will increase hunter participation. The reason people quit hunting is poor experience. Poor experience is due to not seeing deer in the field and over crowded public land by other hunters. High lease prices and high cost of recreational land prices.

    • @bowhuntingforlife
      @bowhuntingforlife 11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@thehuntersight7548 I agree with you that the quality of experience matters but that’s a separate factor which also applies to more hardcore hunters and not novice ones like a majority of rifle season hunters likely are. I know a lot of novice rifle only hunters that only hunt one weekend a year and if rifle season was pushed back possibly wouldn’t participate at all.
      The hardcore hunters are more effected by the quality of experience effects because it’s hard to go backwards in your deer hunting goals. Novice hunters just shooting does and smaller bucks care less.
