Thank you for this! I spent hours struggling with this until I watched your video. I kept trying to put it in in pieces only to have it leak once it was all screwed in. Undoing that pipe at the bottom was exactly the trick I needed.

Thank you for the video! As others have mentioned, there is a significant chance you will pinch/ rip/ ruin the o-ring at the bottom seal. I ruined both the original and new one. Have extras on hand so it doesn’t turn into an hours long job like it did for me running out to the store.
The video also implies you need a lot of force to get it into the brass port- this is NOT true and NOT how you want to do it. That is how you ruin the o-ring. You need to undo the two screws holding the brass port in place and use that play so that it goes in without a lot of force. It pivots on the third screw in the back that is inaccessible. If you jam it in there, that’s how you get leaks.

Is this flow sensor a common failure point of the ncb? Maybe I should have one on hand

I did this job, what a pain. Had a leak because O ring at bottom got pinched. No play in the connections. As another commenter stated, I had to undo the pipe below from the bottom of the cabinet, then I had JUST enough clearance with out boogering the O ring. These things are horrible to work on. All my coworkers dread them.

4:49 blank plug, mine is leaking water through there, can I just replace that or I have to get the whole flow sensor?

Good vid and an aside: So that Felo bit driver… you’d think the tip would be sufficiently magnetized from the magnet in the bit holder given tight spaces - the screw just dropped right away. I assume the flange screw is stainless or regular steel. Is the magnet just kinda weak?

How do you know it’s the flow sensor and not the 3-way valve?

Another video the guy installs it in two halves then clipping together, which I could see being easier. Not sure if the part is in two pieces for that reason?

I wish he had shown how difficult it was to put it in. So we would know what to do and How much pressure to use

As an added note, I had a CH 240 for five years that was nothing but problems. Navien warrantied the unit and replaced it with a NCB 240, but I had to pay for install ($1600, and that was by far on the cheap end). Not happy with these systems so far.

Did the same thing and I'm very happy my NCB provides DHW and heat to five family house. change three-way valve twice, for the amount of use is an excellent unit, it paid for itself many times over on fuel savings.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who has problem with this. I had one of those installed because the plumber vouched for their efficiency. Since then we have nothing but problems. We came across the flow sensor and replaced it. Then it turned out that wasn’t the problem. After numerous attend, I replaced that piece of junk with the good old hot water heater tank. Problem solved.
