  • Rudi Mayr at RHM Saddles did a fantastic job of restoring the Persons Track Racer saddle that was originally mounted on the Hercules Speed King Path Racer! You can check out Rudi's web site here:

    This video deserves more upvotes! That final colour of the leather is phenomenal! I thought you would re-nickel plate the rails though.

      I had thought about replating the rails, Francis, but everything was costing so much that I rationalized that they'd be hidden under the saddle leather anyway. ;) I got them pretty clean with some water, tinfoil and Maas, so they wound up looking nice without the replating.

    Wow. What an amazing video. What a talented craftsman! He has created a museum piece. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to follow the progress on the restoration. Have a great holiday season.

      Hey, Mark! Yep, I'm always amazed at folks that can do something like this! And if you ever need a full leather seat for your 700... :) You have a great holiday season as well!

      @@bikestrikesrazors geez…if he could design and fabricate a nice molded, padded leather seat for a 700 I’d be very interested. Can you ask him for me? Have a great holiday season. Btw… I depart on my 1500 mile ride to Florida next Saturday. I did two laps on Cape Cod Canal this morning(28 miles) in temps in mid 20’s and snow flurries. I am definitely ready for Florida.

      @@markfeldman6509 Ha! A full leather seat on that 700 is going to make for a very sweaty back. :) I was complaining yesterday on a ride about the cold and it was fifty-six degrees. I don't know how you east-coasters deal with REAL cold. I can't imagine riding in the 20's! 1500 miles to Florida? Almost close enough to take a trike. :)

      @@bikestrikesrazors correct… a leather seat would cause some serious sweating. I ride here in New England until I head to Florida next week. When I return home several times during the winter I take my second trike out even if it’s 10 degrees.proper clothing really makes it ok….not my preference but manageable. Go check,out “pedalpushin’ Alaska “ on TH-cam to see a very hearty and brave soul. I could ride the 1500 miles to Florida but there is no,room for my golf bag!

      @@markfeldman6509 Funny you mentioned the golf bag. I've often thought it would be cool if golf courses would let you strap your clubs to your trike so you could pedal from hole to hole instead of using a cart. I personally would need a pretty upright trike 'cause I'd be getting up and down an awful lot. :)

      Hey, Douglas! I've never heard of a red leather saddle either, but it sounded intriguing, and I think it's gonna look great on the bike. :)

    Can’t wait to see how this all turns out! Outstanding job so far. Anyone who’s ever restored a bike knows how challenging it can be. A little surprised though that you didn’t re-nickel the rails on the saddle. Was there a reason for that?

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, Dillon! Yes, a challenge indeed! Right now I'm trying to find the right crown race for the bike. Just ordered one from the UK and hope it works! After I cleaned the rails up, they didn't look that bad and since they weren't going to be very visible on the bike, I went with them "as is". :)

    Looking good but you should have nickel plated the saddle frame while you were at it.

    Wow what is an original person track saddle worth? Leather gone but everythings there.

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm.. I don't know what an original would be worth. I have an original on a Hercules, but the leather is too old for use, so it's just on display.
