- This is the process I follow to clean my front brakes, if I don't want to completely dismantle the calipers. To do a top job you would need to open the calipers, remove the pistons, clean everything thoroughly and possibly change the seals. But this is as close to cleanliness as I can go without spending any money at all or needing to change brake fluid.
Great spot, Hockey or boot laces work well for this too. I like to clean the callipers every time I take the wheels off for a tire change.
Nice idea. Laces will leave even less fabric behind. And they are probably more resilient too.
extremely helpful. thanks for posting
What is the thickness of the piece of wood that you use as a piston stopper... ? Tnx...
Hi. It's 1.5 cm thick (little more than 0.5")
Thanks for the quick reply! I will be doing a brake service on my 2015 Ducati Multistrada S shortly and your video will be a great help in getting the job done properly... ✔
The cloth cleaning method is awesome... great tip! Tnx...
I'm going to try shoe laces... the plastic ends will be usefull to push through the caliper... 😉
Just replaced the brake pads on the w/e... all went well. The shoe laces I bought were the perfect width... and having the plastic wrap at the ends made for easy threadding through the caliper/piston... Thanks again for your 'tricks of the trade'... 🙂👍
