    This guy is amazing. I cannot conceive - first - how he learned and mastered all this stuff so perfectly, so flawlessly.
    And, then, how he mastered making HUNDREDS of these absolutely flawlessly articulated scientific and mathematical videos.

    I would like to add by clarifying something. The ciliary muscles, the muscles that reshape the lens, are actually a ring and the lens is tethered to the muscles by zonular fibers. So in order to stretch the lens, the muscles RELAX. In turn, the zonular fibers are stretched. When the lens has to be more convex, the muscles CONTRACT in order to make the zonular fibers relax and thus reducing tension on the lens.
    Some viewers might be confused with "when the muscles pull on the lens and the lens is made thinner" around the 3:33 and similar statements. In this case, it will be more correct to say that the muscles relax and the zonular fibers pull. Otherwise, great video and thank you for the very good explanation!

      John Perez The point is to understand the optics in this video. that zonular whatever is too much at least for me. I cant even understand what u are saying. but anyways perhaps it might be helpful and make sense to some.

      Its very nice and informative video about optics vision correction. I recommend for Elumpa Simple Vision Alchemist, search the phrase "vision correction glasses" on google for it.

      interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover eye exercises double vision try great gazer fix (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got excellent results with it.

      trash that shit. it's a nice thought that it's free, but so is cancer.
      took me way too long to take my friend's recommendation and start reading Serway and Jewett instead. you can get the hybrid copy (doesn't include the end of chapter calculation questions, so it's only 1000 pages instead of 1600 lol) for $10-15 on ebay. a joy to read, it's like they actually enjoy explaining physics in a clear and empathetic manner, and with excellent diagrams.

    I have accomodative esotropia can you please explain more about that disorder im far sighted bit i still see distance blurry to

      I am not an ophthalmologist, but there is a lot of good information on the condition. It appears that the condition is caused by the tendency of one eye to turn inward in order to focus onto a nearby object while the other eye stays directed straight ahead. It appears to be involuntary such that the person does not have control over the action of the one eye and thus appears to be controlled by the nerves directing the muscles around the eye. If you are far sighted, but you still see blurry, that can be caused by the accommodative esotropia, since an eye only sees clearly over about a seven degree angle and if one eye is pointing in a different direction compared to the other eye, the one eye will see objects blurry. Although that said, the brain will usually form the image seen by the dominant eye which is usually clear. My advise would be to see a doctor who specialized in the condition as there are a number of ways in which this condition can be helped.

      Michel van Biezen it’s a confusing frustrating condition I’m the only one in my family who needs glasses. I’m +5 both eyes and +7 for close I wear progressive bifocal glasses. Why does only one of my eyes cross and not the other also if I’m far sighted why do I see distance blurry to ?

      Yes, it must be very frustrating at times. If you cover one eye at a time can you see clearly objects far away (with your glasses) while using one eye at a time?

      Yes, the near point tends to be closer to the eye for a myopic eye, but not always. It depends on the condition for myopia.

    I am sorry buy in hyperopia the punto of focus is behind the retina and you put the positive lens to bringing it on the retina am i wrong?

      Yes the diagram for Hyperopia is incorrect. The focal point is behind the retina, and with the corrective converging lens the focal point will fall on the retina.

    I have a question if that's alright.
    I understand the concept that a diverging lens would diverge the light rays (like a flash light) to make it possible for the image to go further and hit the retina, but there's an aspect of this I don't quite get.
    The focal point of a diverging lens is on the virtual side (i.e. the same side the light comes into the eye from) so if the image focuses on the focal point, shouldn't the image actually form further away from the retina (i.e. as if the focal length of the eye is even shorter) when you put on a diverging lens?

      Don't forget that when we where glasses (or contact lenses) when we are nearsighted, the diverging lens works in combination with the converging lens of our eye. If the converging lens of our eye focuses the image to far forward in our eye, so that it forms in front of the retina, then the diverging lens (the glasses) will mover that focal point backwards to the retina.

      Not likely. Nearsightedness is typically a result of the shape of the eye.
