What a fun day! Congrats on your wins you, Karen and your daughter! It was nice to see the countryside as you were driving. Sorry the hay was already cut. I think there is nothing prettier that a hay field blowing in the wind. See you Wednesday. Have a great one.
My mother grew up on a Mennonite farm in Corn, OK. The town was settled by Mennonites that spoke a dialect of German ("low German"), which is probably what you heard at 14:36 in your video. She attended a one-room schoolhouse. She left the community as a young adult, met my non-Mennonite father and was married, moved out of state. As kids, we'd go visit grandpa & grandma (and relatives still living there) in the summer and we'd stay on the farm. So many adventures! I remember "downtown" was one main street, as you show it, and we'd have lunch at Tina's Cafe (maybe spelled Teena). If I remember correctly, the town name was originally Korn (German)-- yes, at 19:35, but the spelling was changed to Corn during WWII, I think, to avoid association with Germany, our enemy then. It was during that time when they began to speak more English too. My mother and her 8 siblings have all died, and the driveway up to the old abandoned farmhouse is grown over in weeds. But I believe that the farmland is still being used to grow crops. Anyway, some fond childhood memories that a kid like me growing up in a suburb never would have known if it hadn't been for the farm in Corn, OK.
Yes. It is a cool town. Love the friendliness. My Family settled south of there in Cowden and Carnegie. Great memories for sure. Thanks For sharing Yours
