Like the last grain of sand about to fall into the hour glass, we look to the curators for salvation and protection of what once was and will never be. Save the past as much as you can. Hopefully oneday a new generation will come to understand that past, present and future are one in the same. Thank you for the memories of my family and friends that once where and are now not. Yes, objects do hold history for a reason.
Just beautiful! So many interesting and exquisite pieces displayed 'together'. To me, this evokes the vision of how they might have looked in the home of the original owner. I like Laura's philosophy, and have felt that bit of angst that younger people these days don't seem to care about beautiful, well-made furniture and traditional artwork. When I was 18, I loved these things, and enjoyed studying art history when I could fit in a few extra classes at University. I see a long term goal here; perhaps a young person can't afford such items now, but if they learn to appreciate them, perhaps buying a book with photos of art from the period, later in life they may come back and invest in a special piece.
I've been an antique dealer for 30 years.... I get a good feeling from the the man and the woman having an absolute connection with the antique and its surroundings
What really makes this exhibit sing would be the interior architecture. The Belgian Embassy at Washington D.C. comes to mind, or Whitemarsh Hall outside of Philadelphia. The stairwell clock is exquisite…..but then too were everything else. lol
Merci❤

What an uplifting and excellent episode 👏 The great tragedy of this modern world is that class/social structure that produced the refined esthetic, and the great craftsmanship, has been replaced with greed and mass-produced faddish vulgarity.
The first and last pieces (on piano) are the Nocturne No. 2 by Chopin. The operatic aria is “Lascia ch’io panga” from Rinaldo by Handel. The third piece is “Little Things” by Adrián Berenguer.
