The thing is that the signet doesn't depend on the dragon as much as it does the rider. As Xaden's dragon mentions it's about what the rider is at its core. Naolin's power was different than Violet signet. I do like the name theory though. Maybe Violet and Xaden are actually the true riders meant for Tairn and S. and as riders they actually made honour to the essence of their dragon. A good match so to say. We can also see that with Andarna and Violet. Both are very similar: they match perfectly. This makes me think if there is actually one true rider for each and one of the dragons despite the fact that they can have several trough time. And maybe they don't function to their full extend until they find "the ONE". Ane when they do find them they are not just more powerful but as Tairn tells Violet: she is his last one. He is willing to die with her while other dragons are not willing to do that for their riders because maybe that riders are not their true ones.
@@rnor4266 I love that, though I do feel like there's also a chance it's just a narrative device, i.e. RY chose names/signets to match up during the present day of the story without giving a ton of consideration to the idea that dragons can have multiple riders over time. Your theory would certainly be a lot more satisfying since it could apply at any point within the timeline

I really like that theory, much more than the marked ones having two signets. I mean, we know Xaden does have two signets, because Sgael was his grandfather's dragon. He hid that signet from Violet (and everyone else). He then got busted. Can you imagine if he's STILL hiding a signet?! Non merci. I'm also eagerly awaiting your next chapter :)

@George_RR_Sagan hi! Long time no hear :) I used to wonder if Liam (RIP) used his knowledge of runes to wield ice, but I really like this dragon ability theory. It also would explain the names! It never made sense to me that the signet comes from the rider, yet, said signet is often related to their dragon's name, as you pointed out. It makes sense that those secret signets, let's call them "special name related abilities" (I don't think that'll catch on!) are really the dragons'. I mean, this all makes sense in my head.
Hi, love the theory, I think this is one of the theory that actually is true. And I wanted to say Mira’s dragon teine means fire and Rhiannon’s dragon feirge means anger. I think that Rhiannon’s one is especially interesting since it could be foreshadowing that Rhiannon’s going to get mad at vi and maybe even join the other side because of that.
Regarding theories about this series, I wanted to put one out there, even though I don’t have a lot to go on to connect altogether. But the references to this idea are everywhere in the books. My theory is about prime numbers in the series - specifically the 107 marked ones, the 6 and 1 dragons/riders to create wards, and a reference to something Xaden said in Iron Flame. Starting with Xaden, he says to violet - while they’re on the roof eating chocolate cake - that he thinks their movement/rebellion is 50 years too late. The original war was 600 years before. But what if all this conflict with Venin actually hinges on the rebellion being 50 years too early- and their are events or a culmination of events that will eventually happen 700 years from the original war. It’s a pretty cryptic thing for Xaden to say, and it has to be addressed sooner or later. My theory is pretty flimsy, but it’s a moment that has to be noted. The dragon thing and ward stones is pretty self explanatory as is the 107 marked ones. Something in the empyrean series is hinging on prime numbers. Other mentions of prime numbers- - there are 3 Sorrengail siblings and 3 original brothers - Brennan left the revolution 6 years before Vi enters the riders quadrant, and 7 years when they reunite. I’m sure there are other places where prime numbers have shown up. Would love to know where those are in the books and if anyone has any theories about their importance.
