hey dude i got a question my pool pump isnt turning on i press the reset button and the light turns on but once i let it go light turns off and pool wont turn on
Are you using an extension cord or smart plug, by chance? Sometimes those can interfere; try to avoid them. Also check the GFI test/reset button on the outlet/circuit if it has one. If not, could be a ground fault issue, so best not to override it. Good luck, hope you get it figured out.
That manual was like egyptian hieroglyphics. It was so confusing. Absolutely useless. You cleared up any questions I had within 5 minutes. Thank you so much.
@PracticalMechanic you're welcome. Thank you for the video. I had me and my bf trying to decipher those instructions and I couldn't make heads or tails of them between the 2 of us and I'm usually really good with instructions, but these were just really bad. So thank you for making this. It's gonna be very helpful when it's time to actually setup up the pump. I have to get the sand tomorrow and get it all running.
Omg ur a life saver!! I bought myself a second hand pool& had no instructions & I had no idea on how to put it up or back wash it!! Thank you so much for ur simple to understand videos!!
Oh my goodness…Thank you SO much!!! So much appreciate your very concise, clear explanation. My pool had gone all brown (I think from the new sand I put in) but I’m running the pump and hope your instruction has helped me to clear it.
I hate it when that happens!! No worries, you'll be up and running with crystal clear pool water in no time! Thanks for watching my channel, all the best to you! 👍
Very helpful sir. thanks for this. I lost my directions. I'm setting up our pool again from the Winter cycle and was curious but not totally unsure about the settings. Your video cleared things up. Appreciate this very much.
I have exactly this pump & sand filter system. I definitely didn’t get any plugs, searched high and low for them. Also, the instruction manual isn’t very clear regarding the pump settings, thank god for this video. UPDATE: Actually, thinking about it, I don’t need the 2 rubber bungs as the inlet/outlet has on/off valves built in. Doh!
That was the best and most informative video on this pump. Best way should buy this video from you and Hyperlink in to their instructions. Thanks again so much
Thanks for the video. I'm just about to upgrade to a sand filter for my Bestway above ground pool - I use the pool all year round and keeping it clean in the winter seems more difficult than in the summer.
I 💯 agree with the other comments... Bestway really should employ you or at the very least compensate you for the excellent instructions!! I was getting ready to return our pool until I came across your video! Saving this video for reference! Thank you so very much!!
At least once a week. Depends on how dirty your pool gets. Some people perform a backwash daily (though for shorter periods of time, like 15-20 seconds on backwash and rinse, maybe repeat a couple times.)
@@PracticalMechanic thank you! My husband always took care of everything. He got sent out of town for work and is super busy. I’m trying to figure it all out. 😳😂
Most helpful video on this pump I’ve seen! Do you use filter balls or sands in yours? We have a stubborn algae problem and I’m wondering how to open up the pump to wash or replace the filter balls

Hello! Thank you so much for this information it was very helpful! I just did a back wash and rinse using a hose to direct the over flow elsewhere. But now when I turn the filter back on and make sure the hose on the left is “unlocked” it’s spewing out of the filter. How do I get this to stop? I appreciate any recommendations.
Okay. Hmm, not sure what could be the problem. One thing to double check is that the rubber gasket in between the two parts is still in place and didn't accidentally fall out in the process. Also the "unlock" setting sometimes doesn't fully unlock, so good to double check if that can go any further. Good luck, hope you get it sorted out! 👍
Do I need to drain pool down below the suction ports and drain the lines before doing this? Or is there a way I can Leave the pump running, and bypass the filter while I replace the cotton balls?
Yeah, good question. You shouldn't need to drain down the pool. You can turn the pump off and set the handle to X. Here are the instructions for replacing/cleaning the filter balls: th-cam.com/video/N4g4ts4X3AE/w-d-xo.html Good luck!
Yes, remove the water from the reservoir, and dry the filter media for storage. You can store it in the (dry) tub, or somewhere else to be reused. Drain and store the pump and tubing somewhere dry where it will not get damaged, such as a garage or basement. Good luck! 👍
Thank you for the great explanation! I have a question. My water was dirty today so I did a backwash. All fine except filter is leaking water from the ring that holds the top to the bottom. I use a solar blanket (not sure if related as it seems to keep the pressure higher than without blanket) and have had this happen before and once it starts I can't get it to stop leaking. I tried tightening the screws but no difference. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Thanks, much appreciated! One thing just to double check is that the rubber gasket is still there. You can catch a glimpse of it in this video at about 3:15 th-cam.com/video/NaoQz7_6BWc/w-d-xo.htmlshared&t=190 Good luck!
Great video! I don’t think that the hose attachment allows for proper cleaning of the filter because of the back pressure it creates. I tested this and the water coming out of the hose on backwash, was pretty clear and then I would get a plume of algae and dirt going back into the pool when filtering again. So I just left the hose fitting off and without even turning the filter on the water coming out was green. I ran backwash till clear, then rinse as you say and boom, no plume when I turned the filter back on. So no hose attachment for me when backwashing anymore. Oh and the pressure returned to normal, which it wasn’t when I was using the hose to backwash. Thought this might help someone out!
Thank you for this info, I was wondering why my backwash water was still clear, I have now removed the hose and the filter has now been cleaned. Unfortunately the water coming from the pump is causing issues but that will be tomorrow's problem.
Yep, first time I back flushed I didn't use the hose attached and it seemed fine. Then I spent a very long time running a 100ft garden hose over my hill and looped through the fence so I could see the water color from about 30 feet away, the moment I turned it on it seemed like it wasn't flushing right and the psi was way up. Reverted back to large opening hose for drain valve and all is good. I suspected it might be an issue with such force going through a small opening, should have checked before running the hose. Oh well hahaha! Glad it's not just me that noticed this. Thanks.
Main thing, didn't get behind on adding the chemicals! Once the algae sets in, you have to take extreme measures! I mentioned this in another video's comment, but here's the quick and simple version - when you first set up the pool, use these chemicals - in this order: Day 1 - Clarifier - amzn.to/3UOK1Gw Day 2 - Shock - amzn.to/3VfWJQ0 Day 3 - Algaecide - amzn.to/3Vf8tC9 After that - Chlorine Tablets - amzn.to/3WVxymW Then check your chemical levels with test strips - amzn.to/4eqwFta All the best, and hope you enjoy your pool this summer!
I got the Bestway 58515 model, got any tips on how to do it on one of those without having to spill way too much water, since the filter sits vertically?
If I recall, 4-8 psi is normal range. If higher than that, you may need to clean the filter media, or switch to a coarser media. Also, make sure all the valves are all the way fully open. Good luck!
@@PracticalMechanicI'll double check myself too. Interestingly some models don't have an on off switch and instructions make no mention of turning off before changing settings.
@@PracticalMechanic OK with my Bestway all that happens is that some water leaks out when you are moving the handle between settings. Other than that it causes no other water to exit.

No worries, me too at first! 😁
Have you thought about upgrading your pump for faster cleaning and heat from solar system?
Great tip, thank you! It makes a lot of sense; I'll try that next time. Much appreciated!
Thanks.
Thanks for this video , very helpful! Question on the inlet, not feeling the suction - shouldn’t I be?
On the inlet side, the suction is very slight. Just make sure the top knob on the "jet" side is FULLY in the "unlock" position. Good luck!

How do you keep your pool crystal clear? Like in your video
Main thing, didn't get behind on adding the chemicals! Once the algae sets in, you have to take extreme measures! I mentioned this in another video's comment, but here's the quick and simple version - when you first set up the pool, use these chemicals - in this order:

No, they are inside the big tub.
