Why Paul Nicholls has not been given a Knighthood for his services to Horse Racing is beyond me because the man is a total legend - NUFF SAID!!!!...........
@D3TRIM3NT4L To be fair, Kauto Start was fit to run, he was fine in his last gallop before Cheltenham...he's just getting on a bit, he doesn't really like Cheltenham in my opinion, and Ruby just felt that it was right to pull him up when he couldn't keep with the pace. But other trainers do sometimes run horses that aren't fit to go, especially in races like the Grand National. And yeah, I don't like it either, I love racing but hate seeing horses injured through possible carelessness.
THE DARK SIDE OF RACING GOES LIKE THIS: 370 racehorses are killed every year in the UK on the race track. Does not include the ones that die or are destroyed off the track. Like discovering broken pelvis's etc etc that aren't always immediately apparent. Discarded racehorses due to not making the grade runs into 3,000+ a year. This is not ok. Well lets just keep that side of it quiet. Best left unsaid. Although they are fed and groomed and shiny. There is no disputing the care. Mentally they are not cared for. With many behavioural symptoms of an unatural life. I found it intersting to see the Legend Kauto Star, being ridden by a young woman, in this insightful video, who was incensently nagging with her legs, dig, dig, dig, why? He was going. Moving forward. The best way to switch off a horse and make them dull. Is to kick, kick, kick. When the poor horse was already doing as she asked. So why was she endlessly kicking Kauto Star. What did she actually want from him? Doubt she even knew herself. So then yes, the horse will switch off, be unresponsive as they have no idea what is required of them. Then the famous Collet moment on poor Kauto at Olympia. Kick, kick, kick, nag, nag, pull on the reins. They comment he just shut down. Yes he did. 15 years of a human nagging him. When he was doing what he thought they wanted?!!! What an undignified end for such a magnificent animal. All the money he earnt for the human. Amazing what horses will endure. Every horse needs a human to listen to their voices. To respond appropriatley. To be a partner. Oh well an industry stuck in the dark ages. Doing the same thing to horses. Not for them. RIP Kauto Star and all other horses who die in vain.
That's not true. 0.7% is the fatality rate per year. The same rate as horses twisting their legs in rabbit holes and having to be put down. The kicking of horses when they're walking is for direction, and its only toe tapping. Late on in a piece of a work we kick too.. Too keep them up to their work. No point in a gallop if they just slack off. The dark side of racing goes nothing like that in reality. The dark side of racing is fuckwits like you coming here and lecturing us on how to look after our horses. Have you ever worked in a yard? Or been to the races? Or been to a yard? If you're suggesting banning racing then I ask you to suggest what we do with these thousands of racehorses that all want to race. They all want to race, and they'd all be properly pissed off and go loopy if we stopped them racing or working. So what do you suggest we do? Look until you do your research just leave this sport alone. Leave the welfare to the people who know. And fyi, the RSPCA say we're grand...
You have absolutely fucking no idea about racing... 300 died last year put of hundreds of thousands of runners.. they're bred to race, a racehorse can't sit in a field all day eating grass and once a horse is seriously injured it's cruel to have it lie there watching his training partners run knowing he's in so much pain and won't be able to do it.. they're bred to race it's their job.. in fact kauto died due to the fact the owners had him show jumping once his racing career ended... he died in a show jumping accident
Horse sport is abuse, greed, exploitation of horses and humans they do not go “hey where am I racing today I really want to die” whoever is in horse racing or any kind of oppression they are part of the abuse….. animals are not ours to use for our pleasure or benefit ….
Yes worked at yards and I know people worked at Paul Nichols yard and left because of what she witnessed, you are attacking me with bad language you loose… I also worked at dressage yard top dressage rider and JUDGE saw her beating a horse senseless …. All in horse sports are egotistical bullies ….
@FallenAngelDream Yeh well im fed up with them running horses who are not fit to run, i also dont think hurricane fly should of been run at leopardstown and it would of been fresh for chelthenam but they mislead you to believe the horses are ready
@D3TRIM3NT4L You're complaining about the bets? I don't care about the £20 I lost, I just wanted him to be okay (he is, btw...though he will probably be retired).
Liverpool15917Lost the argument by being aggressive and using bad language. I rest my case. Have been round horses 45 years. Worked with horses. Witnessed first hand many injustices to the horse. Been to the races. Aware of the waste and by product of a horse that fails and doesn't make the grade, WORLDWIDE. There are already millions of horses in the bracket of not winning so "what do we do with them all"?! Yes I'm aware of the lucrative horse industries. I'm aware of the horse and its nature. Due to intensive research. Which will always be overlooked in a quest for money, greed, status and championships. Not all are acutely aware of horses needs, on the ground or on their backs. No the RSPCA actually have to deal with ALL the unwanted, old, injured race horses. That's not grand. I can see the research gone into your comments and facts. Kicking a horses sides repeatedly causes dullness and dead to the leg. Direction of the horse is done by the riders seat and weight in the stirrups. Try it sometime it really works. 😃 Horses generally don't make decisions daily to go to Cheltnham or Aintree. They live in the moment. They don't understand money, rosettes or trophies. Glory or success. That's a human goal, drive ambition. Studies prove this. Anthropomorphism is a human behaviour which isn't not practical in the horse world. Not part of an horses life or make up. They perform on adrenaline at high speeds, high jumps. Which is detrimental - adrenaline. Adrenaline has adversive effects on the horse also on the human. Anyway all in the name of tradition, sport and blinkered thinking 🙄 Horses have to do as the human wants. Whether it's happy or not. You're ok when your winning. Let's breed indiscriminately for the ultimate champion quest. Hypocritical.
A really interesting video that was easy to follow and very enjoyable to watch. I´ll be watching for Paul Nichols´s horses over the next few weeks
9:56 pure horse trainer. Cuts off the conversation to have a really good look at the horses coming past.
