The best thing bout the Order’s invasion of Novgorod was the absolute MASTERPIECE movie we got out of it.

Awesome! The Novogrod Republic would also be a great "ghost country" to cover, wouldn't it?

Hey Artur, good to hear from one of the channel’s OG subscribers! 🙌 And without a doubt, Novgorod would make for a great episode. Personally, I find it really interesting how so much of the Republic’s territory was between Lake Onega and the Urals - basically along the Arctic Ocean’s coast; although, I know the major economic hubs with the Hanseatic League were back west.

Both parts of the videos contain quite a bit of inaccuracies... For example, if the uprising of 1343-45 took place on the island of Saaremaa/Ösel, which at the time belonged to the german bishop, then how would that concern the danes and why would the king of Denmark sell their Northern-Estonian lands a year later? The main events of that uprising took place elsewhere and were indeed incredibly significant. This is just an example, but the maps and info about these events are easily available, which makes these mistakes quite annoying...

The opening black and white movie scenes are from Sergei Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky, correct? I was recently doing a deep dive on some classic film history and I instantly recognized some of those scenes.

Cool! It is also important to note that the danish support had been reduced to half due to conflicts of interest between the danish king and the nobility at the time.

For a moment I thought you were talking about the Danish Civil Wars, but I was off by a couple hundred years there. 😅 Honestly, there’s a lot I’d like to explore in regards to Scandinavian history - the Kalmar Union has been on my list for a while now!

Moscow's only victories come from invading smaller countries :-

1940 - Finland signed peace treaty and ceded all claimed lands to the USSR.
1945 - Manchurian offense operation, that lead to fall of Japanese Empire, due to seizure of their resource-material base in Manchuria and Korea.
1969 - Chinese troops haven't seized Damansky island.
1989 - the same way in 2021 America was "defeated"
2004 - won second Chechen war
2022 - battle is still ongoing, so you cannot say what side will win.
It was funny to hear schizophrenic thoughts about USSR didn't won WW2.

we have been fighting the barbaric orient for the centuries , we Litwins know the drill ... "Let us begin with this evident fact: Muscovy does not belong at all to Europe, but to Asia. It follows that judging Muscovy and the Muscovites by our European standards is a mistake to be avoided."-gonzague de reynold, 19501 In methodological terms, one should de-Europeanise any analysis of Muscovy policy.- thomas gomart, 20062 "
