The flute is called shakuhachi. The strings thing is called koto. The guitar-like one is called shamisen. The traditional drums is called wadaiko. The band has 6 guys and 2 girls, but one of the guys crossdresses for performances (it's his style). The vocalist is a certified master in traditional Japanese singing and in piano, the shakuhachi player is also a certified master. Heck, all of them are masters and they are all accomplished musicians in their own right.

Very gracious, and between her English and my Japanese, we managed to have a short conversation about the music scene in Japan. She's really tiny; it's surprising how much sound comes from her with her being so petite. Out of curiosity, what genres of music are you interested in viewing for your reactions. I notice that the videos you've done so far are pretty much on the harder end of the spectrum. There are also a huge number of really talented Japanese bands in other genres of rock, from Indie to Garage to Pop-rock, and everything else you could imagine. Like, One OK Rock is great if you're into the Emo-rock scene. Polkadot Stringray is an amazing Indie Rock band. The Peggies are a fun little Garage Rock band. Scandal, depending on the point in their career, ranges from Garage/Indie to Pop rock. Asian Kung-Fu Generation is an exceptional Alternative Rock band. There are just so many, I could suggest dozens....

In the US at least, the average woman is 5'4" and 166 lbs (as reported by the CDC in 2016). Comparatively, the average woman in Japan is 5'2" and 116 lbs (from a Ministry of Education study in 2016). Compared to what we usually see here in the US, they are tiny.
I really do love Wagakki Band's vocaloid covers such as Senbonzakura, Tengaku, Iroha Uta, etc. Bc they're also my personal favorite vocaloid songs. Traditional Japanese songs are just really catchy- I also love when ppl react to the things like this bc it's exciting watching ppl start to get into what you're interested in OwO

It's one of their earliest songs, so they were still working out things from their side. If you ever decide to react to Akatsuki no Ito, I'd suggest using this ver: th-cam.com/video/OqwysRHT3RQ/w-d-xo.html instead of the MV because while it is nice, it has dragon sounds. xD Strong Fate, Senbonzakura, Hangeki no Yaiba are also nice songs. Their lives are as good as their recordings and they have instrumental performances which are equally fun.
Have you noticed a thing with the japanese bands you has been reviewing?? Wagakki, Maximum the Hormone, Babymetal ??? They are really good at taking all sorts of genres and themes you just would never would work together and simply makes them work... :)
I like this band's music, and will listen to it more. Yes, it reminds me of Eluveitie or Chthonic, for how they combine classic rock instruments with their traditional japanese music.
Regarding the shamisen (the banjo-sounding guitar thing): it serves as a percussion instrument, rather than a guitar. Instead of using thumps, it uses clicks to keep the tempo. Their songs are catchy because between 8 people, they have 3 percussion instruments.
The cool thing is Yuko Suzuhana sounds better live than in a recording studio she is super sweet and very down to earth I met her when I was in Tokyo and won a writing contest and an all expense paid trip to Tokyo

This was pretty amazing, but I agree with you, the mixing could have been better but still very solid. Future Recommendations: Arkona - Slavic Folk metal band that has an amazing front woman with a powerful voice that can sing clean and growls with the best of them. Cradle of Filth - their new material is solid, beast drummer and new guitarist "Blackest Magic in Practice" is a solid song. Amon Amarth - "Tattered banners and bloody flags" or "first kill" Lacuna Coil - they've gotten hella heavier with their new album Delirium preferably the song "Blood, Tears, Dust" Maximum The Hormone - Japan's best Metal export in my opinion. Their solid live or in the studio. Their an acid trip, a numetal/hardcore punk band lol. "Maximum The Hormone", "Aliens", "F" and "Yoshu Fukushu"
I'm still not a COF fan. Though I have tried over the years. AA are amazing, and I've been a Lacuna Coil fan since the late 90s. But I have not heard blood , and tears. I have not heard Arkona, or Maxim the Hormone. I'll get them on the list.

Pls react to the band ONmyouza very underated outside of japan. They have their own genre yokai metal( horror metal). Been around since late 90's. They range from your typical heavy sound up to progressive stuff.

you're welcome, i don't usually watch reaction videos, just not really my thing, but when i saw this one i kinda just felt i needed to check it out, you picked a very good song for a reaction video, theres only a handful of songs of theirs that start more slowly with the flute and harp the way that one does, it kind of makes you sit back and think "hmm i wonder where this is going to go" especially when you know that the song is being recommended to you based on liking metal/rock styles of music, then it all starts, and its surprising, in a really good way. like i said though, definitely look into some of the work Machiya has done, not necessarily for your videos or anything, you're obviously a lover of good music from talented people, and he is definitely a talented musician, with technical guitar skills as good as people like buckethead. thanks for the video though, i enjoyed it.
