Note: I rolled off the frequencies at 13.8khz to remove some fan noise the mic was picking up, but you can opt to roll off as high as 15khz or skip that altogether, since that's the highest frequency the K688 can capture. You may get even clearer audio.
Hello, I'm a newbie with mic stuff and after hours of reviews I ended up buying this one thanks to you, but since I don't know anything about software I wonder if there's any program you would recommend me to make this mic sound better (not for recordings though, I want to use it for Discord mostly) 😁
Now that's an intro! 🔥 Also, you can actually use the Reaper plugins with OBS. Even their stock EQ is already decent imo that I sometimes use it on my live streams. 😂
@@OppaLec I’ve been using ReaEQ and ReaEverything this whole time haha. Just find that I tend to like Nova’s sound a bit more. There’s a subtle, but noticeable difference. Less clinical to my ear. But for function, ReaEQ is more than enough!
1) Xlr for sure! 2) That wasn’t my goal. I think the Tank 3 could use some more warmth, even. If you mean copying the tone, they’re different, but if you mean quality-wise, they’ve always been close! 3) I’d tame some of the harsh sounding highs. Try using a notch or low pass filter somewhere between 10k-16k (the highest frequency the mic captures), and see if there’s anything harsh/sibilant between 4-10k.
So glad you're doing a video about the software side of things. Picked up the PD400X with recommendations. I do my voiceovers on Audacity, is reaper worth the $60?
Which one do you recommend between the newer K688 vs PD200X. I saw your video comparison with previous model of K688. But it'll be great if you could also make a recommendation with the newer model too. I actually want to get one for my Zoom meetings as well as TH-cam coding lectures. Which one would serve me better? Because I want to keep mics out of the video frame. My office also get some traffic sound and sounds from other offices in surroundings as I sit in a coworking space.
Been wanting to do this, but they haven’t fixed an update bug on my end. I haven’t been able use the software like I used to. When it happens though, this is a priority!
Hey Dave, love your videos and love your vibe, I am a beginner streamer and bought the k688 for gaming, I have had this mic since the 24th and it sounds pretty good when I plug my headphones into the jack of the mic, but any time I record audio for my TH-cam or stream for twitch, it sounds like I'm on a call with myself or something, not as clear as it does in your videos upon the k688. I was wondering if you had any way to fix this or you could think of a reason why this would be happening. I use the cord that comes with it, nothing else. If you could get back to me on this it would be great, thanks! 👍👍
Hello! Do you mean the final recorded audio sounds like you’re “on a call with yourself” or is it just how you sound when monitoring your voice live, not through playing back a recording?
@@DaveSoltura It's like every time a play a final recorded audio and when I hear a saved live stream, the final audio of that as well sounds like I'm in a facetime with myself or something.
@@salconn I could be wrong, but it sounds like you might be recording under 16-bit, and/or under 48000 Hz for some reason. Check your sound settings and choose an input device (microphone) and make sure it's set to at least 16-bit 48000 Hz. Here's how that might look on Windows: th-cam.com/video/6zZ-Abi9hNI/w-d-xo.html
@@DaveSoltura So following the video, I went into the sound settings and checked the format for the output and the input, they both say 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). This makes me wonder if its has something to do with my headphones, i really dont know. I have them plugged into the mic, I set it up the way I was supposed to but its still not giving me an audio like in your video and many other videos Ive looked at. If you have any more suggestions PLEASE tell me, I really like this mic and I want to put it to good use.
Hi Dave, What about de-essing? Do you recommend to use the EQ TDR nova filter also for De-essing? Or better to use two TDR Nova filters, one for EQ (the one you show in the video) and another for de-essing. Thanks in advance!
Haven’t tried it myself. Compare the methods and try to listen to which sounds best! Good de-essing will make your vocal sound smoother without making it sound dull. :)
I have a better tip if you want to improve the sound. Just buy the AM8 😊 (love your reviews mate and i know you love the 688, just kind of trolling here)
Hi bro, I have a doubt, do you think this mic is better than the Tank 3?? Appereance-wise I prefer the Tank 3, but I'm indecisive about the sound quality, so I would like to know your opinion on the matter. It would also be cool if you made a video like this but for the Tank 3.
@@Espoody Tank 3 is slightly less warmer (getting closer fixes this), but it’s very balanced. Clean highs without sounding sharp. Smooth overall sound, but not boomy. K688 is a bit warmer, but not as articulate (can sound muffled to some ears). Generally think the Tank 3 needs less EQ-ing, but the K688 is still great especially for the price.
@@DaveSoltura thanks for the answer! Budget is not a problema right now, so based on looks, my own “research” (watching videos about both), and your answer, I will go with the Tank 3. Hope you are able to make the eq video, I am really inexperienced with audio so it would be of great help to see an expert do it.
I've been looking for other people to review the Fifine k726, The condenser microphone Fifine made at an affordable price. I have mine set up with my mtrack Solo though my environment at the moment is not ideal (Noisy AC) for me to properly test it fully. Have you ever tried out the K726 before? I'd love a video about it since not a lot of people check it out aside from some russians and other Southeast Asian creators
I just got my Fifine K688 yesterday, and this video came up just in time on my timeline. Great! I know this plugin is mostly used just for recording things, but I'm hoping I can use this EQ on a meeting (Zoom, Gmeet, etc.) and Discord. Right now, I'm using Steelseries Sonar GG to control my overall audio, and the EQ on the mic is kind of hard to understand and too much that I must set. If you don't mind, may I know how to specifically set this EQ into the Steelseries Sonar GG mic preset, please? Thank you!
Just look at the eq settings here, and if the Sonar GG mic preset can be changed, tweak it to copy these settings, or perhaps make a new template if that option is available. :)
This would work for recording mostly. For Discord, you can follow the principles here and use the equalizer on voicemod. :) Video idea perhaps, but it seems pretty basic hmm...
I have a question, i dont really know what mic to buy, because i bought an Maono A04 and it only worked for like 5 days, and now i really want the fifine k688 but i heard in one of youre reviews about the usb problems and i dont know if i should buy and trust maono again with the pd200x or if i should risk buying the fifine k688
My personal rule lately: If you buy a USB mic, make sure it has XLR expandability. So in case the USB feature dies, it's still a fully functional mic in XLR mode. That said, can't go wrong with the PD200x or K688! New K688s have better quality control, cable-wise. The new one they sent had a good cable.

my k688 randomly makes some "peek" or "pinching" like sounds when I record, what could it be?
