I recently had a very unpleasant episode with my Disco 5. The steering rack failed whilst cornering causing me to have an RTA. I claimed on my insurance for body and mechanical repair. 14 weeks in to repair and I am still awaiting return. Very long parts wait from LR (steering rack, suspension arms and subframe). Can anyone advise if I have a legitimate claim against LR as I have excess to pay on my insurance claim and the car is now devalued as it has been in an accident. I understand that this fault has been recognised with other LR models that have been recalled but not the Discovery 5.

Great informative video really enjoyed it , I'm on the fence about buying one of these because of the horror stories regarding engine failure my options are
Disco sport - disco 4 -disco 5 I am edging towards the disco 5
Can you tell me your opinion on reliability on these please .

      Thanks very much 😃
In terms of ability, I’d place both the Discovery 4 & 5 well above the Discovery Sport. In fact I’d place them above in terms of reliability too! The 2.0 TD4/SD4 is just a bit too small of engine for big cars in my opinion.
The Discovery 5 will also stay current in terms of technology for a lot longer too 😎 it all depends on budgets etc too. I’d rather have a really well cared for and nice Spec Discovery 4 that a Discovery 5 that’s been “cheaped” out on if that makes sense?

Hi thank you for your reply,
There is a lot of horror stories about the sdv6 & tdv6 regarding engine failure but not so many an the smaller td4 that's in the D sport .
I do agree tho I would rather have the more able D4/D5 over the sport but its the horror stories (crankshaft) that bother me

You’re not wrong about the crankshaft being an issue for the very few, but the way that I look at it is that Land Rover is one of the most driven brands across the world but you’ll only hear about its problems. Not many people will make a post online about their car running perfectly 😅
Land Rover in particular have a very big divide and a huge amount of people stating the ‘unreliability issues’ have never actually owned one! Service history is absolutely key, but I believe that is the case in any car! Lots of luxury cars such as Land Rover/Range Rover are bought on a shoestring budget which would definitely lead to avoidable issues 😅

      Hi thanks for your reply
      I have to agree, no-one would make a positive review/post .
      Bad news travels fast .
I have had a freelander 2 for the last 10 years and had very little go wrong with it , it's been a great car and really enjoyed owning it , land rovers are really good cars .

We had a disco 5 HSE (68) went for the sd4 only done 24k after further 6k was new engine required. Got rid and bought a older (64) full size range rover 4.4SDV8 . It's literally night and day. . Do your research do history check make sure has FSH .

An 80k workhorse for farmers really?! Toyota hilux is more what they will go for! Let’s face it the hardest life for most the land rover range will be negotiating the speed bumps at the local M&S edit: even the defender isn’t a workhorse that’s found it’s home with the discovery drivers and drug dealers that are doing well for them self’s.

Both run under the Land Rover brand but Range Rover are run as a separate division 👍

To be fair no u should not buy any landrover you are paying big money for rubbish the 2ltr diesel engine the chains are failing and the 3ltr diesel the ford lion engine and that crank problem should have been dropped and the current 3ltr is not much better so should you spend 100k irish price on one no waste of money

People questioned my purchase of a Jaguar xj8 too but after twenty years of owning it (2004 purchase in 2003) , I can definitively say to folks to buggar off.
Landies are expensive to maintain but they do not break as often as many vehicles people swear by. They're just a pain when they do.
