- This is Part Two of my explorations into the Forest of Dean. I have traveled a few miles to the east of my last position to see if and how the woodland and landscape changes...
The Forest of Dean is a geographical, historical and cultural region in the western part of the county of Gloucestershire, England. It forms a roughly triangular plateau bounded by the River Wye to the west and northwest, Herefordshire to the north, the River Severn to the south, and the City of Gloucester to the east.

The stone lined culverts were efforts made by the old collieries to try and minimise the amount of water percolating down into the mines. There's some examples near mallards pike too
Wonderful descriptions I am really enjoying your walk
Lovely Forest of Dean videos Richard. I can’t wait to see the rest.
Thank you Richard very enjoyable walk .
Thanks Ann
Wonderful all these shades of green. Keep on walking Richard!!!
Thanks - will do!
Went last Christmas actually so it's nice to see what the forest looks like with leaves on.
Thanks so much for watching!
👍👏. Great, thank you Richard !
Btw have you equipped yourself with a compass yet !
You need to in those trees! Mind you there is facility
on your mobile phone ? ( I am a bit of a ' luddite ' so I
wouldn't know that ! ) 🤔
I do need to get a compass - I did have one but gave it to my daughter when she scaled Everest.
Sumptuous woodland!
Oh the second walk had less fir/pine trees and more deciduous trees, which i prefer.
Another great video - - did you find out what the tree with the hanging seeds at 3:55 and the cone at 6:55 was?
You managed successfully in the video at least to keep away from people - looks very peaceful!
No not yet - unfortunately
@@RichardVobes maybe spruce?
Is there a redwood area anywhere in the forest of dean?
I am not sure.
Resembles an asparagus to me 😂
Lots of people dont like cyclists but throwing a stick through his back wheel was a bit much Richard ;)
Great video...
Lol - had to be done :)
Sadly the cyclists are invading the forest it's hard to get away from them. Up to a few years ago I could walk for hours in the Forest of Dean on a bank holiday weekend and not see a soul. As walkers and day trippers don't tend to go far from the main attractions/carparks.
It is a shame with all the cyclists on the war path.
Asparagus
Yep that was the word I was desperate for!
