They don’t, they are a white base with black silk woven on. As time goes by they wear out where they are tied and the white thread shows through. This takes a lot of tying over a long time and shows a long time training. ;0)

I think it comes down to who can apply their style the best. This is why you'll see a mix of people from different styles beating each other.

keisuke185 Muay Thai is a sport fighting style that is watered down from Muay Boran which is a lot more similar to karate in its a self defence system.
