Take a Shot every time i say SM7B!😆
Thanks for taking the time to expose the wiring and back plate. Those clenched it for me. I just purchased one for parts. The previous owner thought the wires had gotten pulled from the XLR connector. I disassembled the mic and found one of the mode switches was stuck. Easy fix. Watching your video helped me to determine that my SM7B is a genuine Shure. Thanks
You’re welcome, I think the wiring is the most sure fire way of determining, let’s hope counterfeiters don’t catch on! I’m glad you didn’t get scammed! Thanks for the comment!
I have gotten a legit Sm7b which was lucky considering I got it off of Ebay.
The things you've shown are common issues that the fakes usually have and that not many people catch on with until they are told about them.
Great job on this video! Keeping people informed is always appreciated.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I had gotten a fake and didn't want people to get scammed like I did!
How much did you pay?
@@DanDansNoodle it was around 300 Canadian. meanwhile to get it new it would have been around 500. and even now. my SM7B is working amazing and it sounds wonderful on my voice
Best video on this subject. Thanks
Thank you I appreciate it, I’m glad you found it helpful!
Ive got a fake sm7b for £40 on AliExpress, it sounds ok, and it looks good on my streams and videos so im happy
@@itzEnderX2 as long as your happy man there’s no shame there! We gotta fake it till we make it!
Welp, I got scammed. I went shopping for SM7B mics, and found that a seller on eBay had the cheapest price. It was a big red flag that the price was half of what the real deal goes for, plus, you know, it's eBay. But I also didn't know about the market of counterfeit mics, and I wanted to save money, so I bit the bullet. It wasn't until the shipping info started coming in (from Shanghai) did I then realize I may have been scammed somehow. Luckily, this was a recent transaction, and I can get my money back, if not through eBay, through PayPal. I intend on using your video as proof. Thanks for this heads up. I hate these scumbags.
That’s why I made the video didn’t want people to get scammed! Im glad you got your money back, thanks for watching and hopefully the video is enough proof!
That sucks. Did you get the refund? Was it through ebay money back guarantee?
@@Yiro. It was dude. Thank you for doing this video. It really did help.
@@26327 I refunded the item, and the seller tried to keep my money. He basically just let the date of refund come and go, hoping I'd forget or something stupid like that. I had to deal with eBay to make him return my funds. The guy also pretended like he had no idea he was selling counterfeit items, and said he'd remove the listing, to which he never did.
To follow up on this, I later bought another SM7B for $350 off Amazon. It was used, so I called Amazon and asked if they check all their used products for authenticity. The person on the phone guaranteed that all the things they sell were authentic. That gave me the confidence to buy a used one from them, and that one also turned out to be counterfeit.
After that, I ended up calling Shure directly, and buying the mic straight from them. It's real. I told them what I went through, and the woman on the phone told me there's a HUGE market when it comes to counterfeit Shure microphones. If you're going to get one, don't do what I did and try to save money. Just buy it brand new from the company themselves or from one of their listed retailers that they deal with.
@@TheSixthSLoT no problem, I’m just glad it helped and you were able to get your money back in time
Thanks!
No problem! Glad you found it helpful!
when u open the back ,u can pull out to see some more differeneces between real and fake
Great video!
Thanks, Im glad you liked it!
Hi. Your video Was very useful to me. I have a question.
Shure has been manufacturing in Mexico for the last few years, so the ORIGINAL Shures have been saying "Made in Mexico" for years too.
Probably the first sm7b have been "Made in Usa" but this should not mean that a "Made in Mexico" is false, just that it is newer than the previous one.
I can't read in the video if the one you have there as a fake microphone says "Made in Mexico" or Made in China"
Could you reach me please?
Maybe it is not fake but it is newer than the "Original" and not a fake microphone
In my opinion, it would only be fake if it were a Chinese imitation
I await your answer please.
Your right the older ones were produced in the USA, but now they manufacture both in china and in Mexico. the one in the video that was fake is from mexico the genuine one was from china, that’s why to make sure 100% is to either send it to Shure and have them look at it or check the wiring to see if it matches
@@Yiro. thanks mate!
wouuu
so everything changes. The Chinese was the original and the Mexican was the fake?
This makes shopping online very difficult.
I've been looking to buy one in Spain for a few days and most of them no longer know what they have....
There is even a person who just told me that he does not read "Made in china" anywhere, that his says that it is Mexican.
Is it known if there are original Mexicans and fake Mexicans too?
No problem! Yes there are originals and fakes from both countries. Just depends on where you buy from.
Idk if I got a really good fake or not the back plate is bezeled I have a brass inside with the small gauge wires but my grommets easily pull out and my cable looks like his fake one.
Could depend on where you are located too. But again only full proof way to make sure is have shore themselves test it. This video is getting older and i know fakes are starting to get better and better. Soon we wont be able to tell unless shore confirms.
I just got one that had everything correct except for the sound. Counterfeit was leaner and more open. If you want a real SM7b, just buy new from Sweetwater or Musician's Friend. Every year the fakes get better. The counterfeit was convincing in every detail except the sound. All the normal clues were fixed.
Ya thats what I was telling someone in the comments, that this video is getting a little old now and that the fakes just get better. Doesn’t matter if it’s watches, microphones, or headphones!
thank you for this video cause i bought one thinking its genuine and it had a rattle then i opened it up and it was a silver plate instead of brass. ugh i feel so dumb
Ya no problem! Don’t feel dumb happens to a lot of people! Glad you caught it though!
Mine is one of the real ones that has the registered trademark R like the fakes. At least I hope (The screw holes are beveled and the inner block is gold so... hopefully I'm good)
hopes so, fakes these days are getting better and better i wouldnt be surprised if this video is very outdated by now.
@@Yiro. - If it is outdated, I bought mine many years ago. I'm guessing around 2009, so... I would doubt they used a brass block back then. Wish I could remember where I bought it
@@ikigai47 back in 2009 I’m not to sure about items back then but I wouldn’t be to worried. I feel like the past few years or so the replica market has been getting crazier and more accessible with every type of item not just mics.
@@Yiro. Thanks man. I'm only concerned because I recently realized my Shure headphones from way back when, were actually counterfeit lol. So now I'm on a "what else is counterfeit" kick 😅
Are you using a gate?
Sounds like the threshold is way to high and strangling your voice.
Beside that ...nice info :D
ya i have a gate, been having issues with audio so had to clean install and forgot all my settings. But thank you i appreciate it!
Cheers buddy
Cheers
is the sound quality obvious?
It really depends on the type of fake you get some of them have really good clone capsules that most wont notice a big difference. Some are absolutely bad.
Do you think there is a difference between the original shure sm7b made in mexico and made in china? if both are original
I'm sure there might be differences in each one. especially in the time they were manufactured. I've seen some made in Mexico with one side of the band not have any branding. But the sure fire way to make sure 100% is the wiring!
@@Yiro. and if both microphones are of the same year but just of different production, is there a difference in sound?
@@ТимурЦуркан-ж9щ no I dont believe there should be a difference in sound as in both factories Shure uses the same testing equipment and anechoic chamber so the frequency response should be the same.
My wire its orange not yellow but all the same like original…why?
I can’t be to sure as to why. But we can do some deduction to see if it is authentic. where did you buy it and for how much?
@@Yiro. amazon serial numer authetetic on shure support with all photo no suspicious to fake
@@zerobubble3063 did you pay full retail? and did Amazon supply it (Sold by amazon) or was it sold by a third party or sold from shure store? depending on the vendor on amazon it could be a possible fake.
@@Yiro. i asked Shure support with all detailed photos that it is not a fake production and made in China in database shure my serial number its valid ,watching your video i open mic and all exactly the same by your video but only one cable its orange not yellow but all the same 😅like your …
@@Yiro. in any case shure store by amazon italy i paid 359€
Removed the backplate and looked inside, exactly the same as the real one
Thats good! Glad you didnt get scammed!
what headphone u r using? its so cool
I use the Steel Series Arctis 7p+. I have links to all my gear in the description!
I used to have them. They're not great, but they're okay if you want not-so-expensive gaming headphones. These are kinda gimmicky.
@@user-fe8gx3ie5v Please suggest me better one... I'm about to purchase headphone
@@user-fe8gx3ie5v how are they gimmicky?
👍👍👍
real one has yellow tube 电子元件 inside
Yes, I express that in the video that the real one has yellow wiring!
If you didnt pay full price for the mic, you got a fake.
That’s the thing some people are buying the fakes at full price, and some are lucky and get a person that’s just selling their old but real sm7b at a discount
I got a legit one for 305 but ok
@@stvce You got a fake
@@SlightlySaltyBrickcould be used ebay ?
@yusuferdogan5747 Ebay is literally 90% fakes. Even used is close to full price. For me it's $800 AUD and ebay it's $400... the 400 are all fakes. Used second hand ones are $700
i think some actually do have a silver plate inside
Edit: I was wrong. it was fake.
The ones I’ve seen didn’t have the silver plate but maybe. Thanks for the info! Thank you for watching!
@@Yiro. i was wrong. thank you for looking out for us buyers!
@@connerbean6272 No problem! Glad you enjoyed the content!
I have both real and fake and they sound exactly the same through reference monitors. Not all fakes sound the same as the real thing. But maybe I got lucky !!
Ya sometimes it can be hard to hear the differences. And they vary on who makes them but fakes around the world in every market are starting to get a lot better! Ex watches
Do you have a link to where you bought the fake?
I.bought a fake SM7B scammed on amazon
Dang that sucks man! hopefully you can get a full refund!
@@Yiro. I will return it, I will pay for a highest price but fake. Hopefully I can find legit store. I am here in middle east.
@@jeffreyrelampago1577 Thats good, im sure youll find one soon! if you cant there are other alternatives you can get!
I'm getting sick of this Chinese BS ! Shure needs to step up and make better security with there mics, and boxes, use a dam hologram sticker that cant be replicated F ME
Ya I agree, not just shure but a lot of these companies, they need to come up with something to help the consumer
Fun fact there the factory are ind the same place of the city one streer ahead for sure so dont call it chinese rep
Bro one glance and we all knew the fake was fake its just out of place 😂
Sometimes it’s not that obvious to everyone.
All you need to do is turn on phantom power and if it doesn’t work anymore and just produces static, it’s fake.
that's a good tip, I didn't even think to put on phantom power because the sm7b doesn't require it.
