Nice piece. As much as he's still a u20, you also want to be careful and make sure he does Junior events and dominates. You don't want him going down there and not winning by a margin. That could play with this head. Speaking of, there was a moment last yr I felt that Lyles got in his head as there was a visible rivalry developing, and I remember he ended this one interview like -- "I'm not done!" (something to that effect) and he walked away. It was an odd response, but I felt like Lyles was now in his head -- rent free. But he's still SUPER young -- though so is Lyles (25) but w/ experience.

He is similar in running style to michael johnson, where that very upright posture is great for top end speed, but difficult for acceleration.

Think Erriyon is a 200 and 400 specialist. His stride is so long and he is physically still developing. He is the future of US sprints. What times did Lyles run as an 18 year old? Give Knighton some time, he is on a different level than Lyles. People need to have realistic expectations of the kid. There is no doubting his trajectory in the 200m, look at his improvement the last 4 years. Bolt’s 200 record will be broken at some point and I’d love to see Erriyon train for a 400, he would dominate

No matter how much special spikes a person uses it won't make them go that much faster.
Knighton's performances at his age are special. He has run far faster than Bolt did at the same age, and Lyles only beats him now because Lyles is more mature and physically stronger. Knighton's coach allowed him to run until he was burned out last year...not good. Also, when there are heats his coach needs to teach him how to conserve energy for the final.
Knighton is just a teenager and will get faster and stronger. If he stays healthy and focused, and wants the100m and 200m records he can break them both.
