I was at that race, a couple of riders said before the rain that it was the greatest track in the world. Ward kept stopping for goggles and Hannah rode like an absolute madman especially in the 125/250 moto, he barely stayed on his pegs the entire race. Johnson was rock solid.
man, this is awesome, im not that old, ive only just turned 20 but have been riding since i was 4, my father raised me on a bike, as well as these old school films, and i always watched the good races when i was younger, i was fortunate enough to get rick johnson's autograph a few years ago, my dad met him at lake norman NC....man this is awesome, love watching these old school true motocross races, thanks for posting
ward was always my favorite growing up, i cant remember the year, but my dad would make me watch the video allllll the time, it was from a daytona race where ward had gone down but somehow kept hit hands on the handlebars, thus keeping the bike running, i was always taught that "that was the way to wreck" haha. love seein this stuff....thanx again
Hannah on a 125! Too bad it wasn’t dry, would have loved to see video of him on a 125... it’s so rare. I’d give anything to see his 1976 125 season on video. Great video!
haha rode without goggles as his way to cope....man i miss old motocross. been watching this video for a few years. thanks for not taking it down brother!!!
I was there! Hannah had his throttle pinned the entire time...only the tone changed as he worked the clutch. Johnson was on another level. Oh the sound of the open class 2 stroke bikes. I bought a race jersey from Armstrong the 125 rider on the Australian team. Green and gold JT racing. Still have it! They were selling just about everything they had to pay for their trip.
I like watching a couple GPs from a season in the 80s then watching the MXdN from the same year. That way I can see Geboers put 20 secs on the 250 field, then see Ricky Johnson put 30 secs on Geboers 😂😂😂🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I'm surprised that the US hasn't won more. We're 3 times the size most of the countries that compete. We have 2 of the 3 biggest MX/SX series on the planet. I'd bet we have the most recreational riders than any other country. If anything, I'd say our country underperforms when compared to others.

You should track the guy down and mail it back to him. Probably make his year to have his MXdN race jersey
The kids now days doing supercross should look at what real motorcross is that first turn says it all

kx the way to go!!!!!!!! i had an 87 kx 500 now 87 250
KX 500, what a beast! I had a '86 CR 500, nothing like the smell of 2 strokes to go with my coffee in the morning at the track!
+Kevin Stearns I had a 87 kx 500 too. Also a 85 cr500 . Loved those bikes.
+Stewart Flannagan Wow, 2 of the most notorious open class bikes back in the day! I raced a YZ465, which bike did you like better?
+Wayne Baldwin I liked the CR motor the best but they were both serious fun. The Cr seemed to have more raw power it also had ergonomics of a tank.
do you got the lost race the 87 daytona supercross
Jeff ward. Bob hurracane hannah
